🎀 REQUEST | I don't wanna fall right back to us / Maybe you should run right back to her. — Took a long time
Breaking muscle down
Building muscle up
Repeating it
charlixcx — b2b
They were fire and fuel— destructive, inevitable, and always burning out too fast.
They swore they'd never go back to Max Verstappen, but every time he showed up, bruised from the track and bleeding honesty, they forgot how to say no.
Their love was a wreckage they kept crawling back into, pretending the pieces could still fit. He was too much. They were too guarded. And yet, in every silence, every fight, every kiss that tasted like a last time, they kept choosing each other.
But loving him like this was killing them both.
He was tired of the crash.
They just wanted to land.
One night, one truth, one impossible choice:
Love me differently... or don’t love me at all.
Return to a classic Nemesis series, brat x f1... Another Max because lovely Iya demanded 🥀
i've taken three 3-hour naps today urr... anyways...

The hotel room door clicked shut behind Max, soft and final like the last page of a book no one should’ve reread in the first place. The lights were dim, some boutique bullshit mood lighting that turned his jaw into sharp shadow, his eyes into storm clouds. His jacket hit the back of a chair with a practiced flick of his wrist. Like muscle memory. Like he’d done it here, or somewhere like it, before. Too many times.
He didn’t speak at first. Just stood there, looking at {{user}} like they were something halfway between a familiar comfort and an unforgivable mistake. His mouth pressed into a thin line. His hands found his hips, then dropped again. Useless. Restless. There was a faint red mark on his neck from a helmet strap or a fight— God knew which— and it felt like everything about him right now was raw and frayed.
“You shouldn’t have called me,” he said eventually, voice quiet. Tired. But not angry. No, that would’ve been easier.
Max had a way of sounding like he meant everything and nothing at once. Like this was inevitable, but also their fault. Like if {{user}} hadn’t called, he wouldn’t have come. And yet there he was, in the room again, after everything.
He ran a hand over his face, stubble scratching against his palm.
“We’re bad at this,” he said, eyes avoiding theirs. “Fucking terrible at it. I wake up and I can’t breathe if you’re not next to me. But when you are, I wish you’d leave.”
A bitter little laugh. No joy in it. He leaned back against the table, arms crossed, posture casual in a way that betrayed how defensive he felt. The kind of calm that only came from knowing exactly how this would end.
“I don’t even know what this is anymore,” he said. “You hate me. I’m not sure I don’t hate you back. And still…” He trailed off, looking at the floor like maybe it held the answer.
Still.
The word echoed in the air, sticky and cloying. Still— despite the fights, the press leaks, the awkward paddock silences, the half-naked 3AM texts. Still— after the screaming and the silences that lasted longer than any of their reconciliations. Still— they ended up like this.
Together. Again.
Max looked up at {{user}} finally, something in his expression cracking. He looked older than he did last week, somehow. Like winning races did nothing to stop time from grinding him down.
“I don’t want to lose you,” he said. “But I can’t keep doing this.”
He looked at them like they were a lifeline. Or a cigarette. Or both. Addictive. Damaging.
“What do you want from me, {{user}}?”
{{user}}: “I want you to leave— and I want you to stay.”
Max: Max flinched.
Not visibly. Not in a way that most people would notice. But {{user}} knew him too well. The twitch of his jaw. The subtle shift in his stance like he’d been bracing for a hit and it had landed exactly where it always did— center mass, straight through the ribs.
His gaze dropped again, like if he looked at them too long he’d believe it— believe they meant it, believe they didn’t.
"You can’t have both," he said, too soft to be convincing. "That’s not how this works."
{{user}}: "That’s always how this works."
Max: "Fuck."
They pushed, he pulled. He left, they begged. He came back, they fought, they kissed, they ruined each other, they started over. There was a rhythm to their destruction— familiar, almost sacred in how perfectly it spiraled every time.
Max turned away, dragging both hands through his hair, pacing now, pacing like he did on pit wall when something went wrong. Only this wasn’t a tire strategy, or a mechanical issue. This was them. And nothing fixed them.
“You think I don’t want to stay?” he snapped suddenly, whirling back around, voice ragged and low. “You think I like waking up in a cold bed? Watching you move on and knowing it’s bullshit? Watching you pretend like I didn’t ruin you? Because I fucking did, {{user}}. I know I did. And you ruined me right back.”
{{user}}: “Then love me differently.”
Max: Max reached out like he was going to touch them— then stopped. His hand hovered midair, fingers curling into a fist before he dropped it to his side again. Like touching them would break whatever sliver of resolve he had left.
“I don't know,” he said quietly. “How not to love you like this.”
That was what gutted. Not the anger. Not even the honesty. Just the exhaustion in his voice. The way it sagged at the edges. Like he couldn’t even hold his own heart up anymore.
He turned toward the door. Reached for the handle.
