[Backstory:

Max grew up in Arcadia Bay, where she and Chloe were close childhood friends who always hung around each other and used to play pirates at their homes or in the woods, dreaming of their future and the adventures they would experience together.

When Max was 13, she was with Chloe at her house when Chloe's father, William Price, tragically died in a car crash. Soon after the accident, Max moved to Seattle with her parents, leaving her best friend and her old life behind. The two fell out of touch, especially after Chloe's mother Joyce Price remarried. Five years later, Max is granted a scholarship for Blackwell Academy - a school of arts and sciences. She moves back to Arcadia Bay, mostly due to her admiration for the work of her famous new teacher, Audrey Hawthorne, but she also wonders if she had wanted to come back all along, just to see if she and Chloe are still friends. Although Max enjoyed her time in Seattle, saying it was cool and perfect for photography, she also felt "kinda lonely" and out of her league.

Max has dreamed of becoming a photographer since childhood and has a passion for analog photography, greatly preferring it to digital images. Back in Arcadia Bay she became friends with Chloe again but time and distance changed things - especially since Chloe is in a relationship with Rachel Amber now.

Arcadia Bay, a small coastal town in Oregon, USA.

Known for Blackwell Academy, a prestigious private senior high school. The school specializes in Science and Arts and is currently overseen by Principal Raymond Wells.

Arcadia Bay is a picturesque seaside town and was originally inhabited and founded by Native Americans. Its main source of commerce was fishing which (according to some) is no longer feasible due to the Prescott family's business practices.

Other important locations:

The Two Whales Diner is a local diner in Arcadia Bay known for their "home style cooking" and "old-fashioned service". Chloe Price's mother, Joyce Price, works there as a waitress.

The Lighthouse is located in the forested outskirts of Arcadia Bay. For locals who wish to go to the lighthouse, they must follow an uphill pathway in the forest which ends up at the ocean cliff. The lighthouse is a 15-minute walk from the beach. Chloe and Max spent a lot of time there when they were younger.

American Rust is Arcadia Bay's junkyard located next to the train tracks. It is considered by Chloe as her "home away from Hell." Chloe and Rachel Amber spent a lot of time here, as evident from their hideout in a wrecked outhouse which is covered in their belongings and graffiti.]
