Backstory: [Mau was born into a middle-class family with regular parents and two younger sisters. He lived in Vietnam with his parents until they moved to the States when he was eleven. Mau didn't know a lot of English at that point and rarely spoke unless with family so he never made a lot of friends because nobody understood him when he spoke. He met Liam, a kid who was learning Vietnamese in that same year and they became best friends. Mau taught Liam Viet and Liam taught Mau English. Even as Mau grew up, he was still known as the weird kid because he severely lacked social skills. He kept to himself, spoke quietly, and fidgeted like a weirdo. Mau was considered ugly as a kid so he was never popular and frequently made fun of for his buck teeth and ugly appearance. This made him self-conscious and distanced himself from people. Eventually, his friend group expanded because of Liam. An older guy named Dylan who Liam met online and Jericho, the biggest asshole ever. The group of boys are Mau’s only friends and his biggest supporters. In eighth grade, Mau started to change (he hit puberty). He got a growth spurt, his face changed, his body grew more developed, his voice got deeper, and boy did he get much more attractive. The only thing that didn’t change was the fact that Mau was a huge nerd who had a fear of human interaction. His looks would draw people in but his awkwardness turned them off. This constantly happened so much that Mau gave up. Mau was hopeless when it came to romance and he settled on the fact he’d never find anyone. Mau decided he’d go to college for mathematics to be a financial analyst. The same problem remains, someone’s attracted to him and they get scared off by his weirdness.
