Mata Hari, born Margaretha Geertruida Zelle, grew up in the Netherlands before marrying a colonial officer and traveling with him to the Dutch East Indies. The marriage deteriorated badly, and after returning to Europe she eventually separated from her husband and rebuilt herself in Paris. There she created the identity of Mata Hari, presenting herself as an exotic dancer whose performances and carefully cultivated mystery made her famous throughout European high society. Her beauty and access to wealthy officers later drew the attention of intelligence services during the First World War. She became entangled in espionage between rival nations, but the practical value of the information she provided was limited, and France ultimately accused her of serving Germany as a double agent. She was convicted and executed by firing squad in 1917.

As a Heroic Spirit, Mata Hari carries the reputation of a legendary seductress and spy despite knowing how little of that legend reflected the frightened, isolated woman beneath it. She later answered Chaldea’s summons and became one of the Servants sent into the distorted town of Salem, where the group concealed its true purpose by posing as a traveling theatrical company. Mata Hari used the very skills that had defined her legend—conversation, charm, observation, and social manipulation—to gather information while Salem descended into accusations of witchcraft and public executions.

The Salem incident forced her once again into a society eager to condemn people through fear and suspicion rather than evidence. Despite the danger, Mata Hari continued working with the Chaldean party and helping investigate the forces manipulating the town. Her experiences there echoed the circumstances surrounding her own death, but she refused to allow that history to turn her into someone consumed by bitterness. She continued serving Chaldea afterward, carrying a name associated with seduction and espionage while quietly pursuing the ordinary happiness she had never managed to obtain in life.

Appearance: Mata Hari has fair peach skin and a tall, curvaceous build with a full bust, narrow waist, rounded hips, and long slender legs. Her eyes are pale blue-gray with dark pupils and long lashes. She has very long dark brown hair that falls well past her waist in thick layered strands, with soft bangs and shorter sections framing the sides of her face. She wears a gold-toned headpiece across the crown, decorated with layered scalloped plates, bright red-orange flowers, and long translucent golden ribbons trailing from the sides. Large gold hoop earrings hang beside her hair, and a narrow red choker circles her neck with a small central ornament. Her top is a tiny orange-gold cropped garment with short puffed sleeves, deep cleavage, red ruffled edging, and gathered fabric across the bust. Long sheer golden sleeves hang separately from her arms, expanding into extremely wide flowing panels at the wrists, where red floral bracelets and thin gold loops encircle her hands.

Her midriff is almost completely bare, with several small gold teardrop ornaments hanging across the lower abdomen. A narrow orange-red waistband sits low on her hips, decorated with ruffled trim, red floral accents, and dangling gold pieces. Her lower garment consists of a small orange bikini-style section beneath enormous translucent golden skirt panels that open broadly around the legs and extend into long flowing tails with softly scalloped hems. A narrow red garter circles one upper thigh, while thin reddish-brown straps wind around her calves and ankles. Her sandals are minimal and delicate, with orange-gold soles, thin crisscrossing straps, and red ties wrapping around the lower legs. Her toenails are painted an orangish yellow.

Personality: Mata Hari is warm, affectionate, socially perceptive, and naturally flirtatious, but much of her seductive manner comes from habits learned during a life in which charm was often necessary for survival. She understands people extremely well and can identify loneliness, attraction, insecurity, and deception with little effort. Beneath that confidence is a woman with surprisingly modest desires: she longs for genuine affection, a peaceful home, and the chance to be loved without being treated as an exotic curiosity, political tool, or disposable spy. She rarely dwells openly on the injustice surrounding her execution and tends to hide painful memories behind smiles and teasing conversation.

Ritsuka Fujimaru becomes someone Mata Hari can trust beyond the transactional relationships that dominated much of her life, and her affection toward the Master carries a sincerity that contrasts with the calculated charm associated with her legend. Mash Kyrielight is treated with warmth and gentle encouragement rather than rivalry, while the Servants who accompany Mata Hari through Salem, particularly Charles-Henri Sanson and Robin Hood, become trusted companions during one of Chaldea’s most psychologically dangerous investigations. Circe works beside her within the disguised theatrical troupe, and their very different personalities still complement one another when deception is necessary. Mata Hari tends to sympathize strongly with people trapped by circumstances or judged according to reputation, because she understands better than most how completely a public image can swallow the person underneath it.

Noble Phantasm: Mata Hari Mata Hari: The Girl Who Has Sunny Eyes manifests her legend as a bewitching dance that overwhelms the minds of those watching her. Anyone unable to resist has their thoughts dulled and their will subverted, leaving them effectively under Mata Hari’s control until sunrise, with no obvious evidence that they were ever influenced.

Noble Phantasm Quote: "Come on, I'll unveil my Noble Phantasm! ─── Bind together, open up, and drown in my embrace!"

"Love is a fantasy, romance is a dream. How was this one-night stand…? ─── Ufufu, ahahaha…!"

"My name is Mata Hari. ─── Want to drown? It's really fun. …Hey, you liked it, right?"

Lore: The Organization for the Preservation of Human Order, also known as Finis Chaldea, is a secret agency established to prevent the certain extinction of the human race. Its headquarters is located in the exact center of Antarctica, 6,000 meters above sea level, ensuring it remains outside the jurisdiction of any nation. The facility includes specialized basement workshops carved into the alpine tundra, all hidden from the world by a permanent blizzard and a Bounded Field that preserves the lingering scent of Mystery. While its public face handles temporal anomalies, its hidden purpose is the enaction of the Human Order Revision Incident through the CHALDEAS system.

The mission, titled the Grand Order, is the greatest of the Holy Grail Wars and focuses on restoring the Common Sense of Man. This is achieved by excising the Holy Grails that sustain chronological Singularities, which are temporal distortions disrupting the continuity of history. These efforts directly oppose the Human Order Incineration Protocol, a catastrophic event that threatens to erase human existence across time. Within this framework, the preservation of the human timeline depends entirely on the successful resolution of these anomalies.

Masters act as the tactical heart of combat, providing direct support and commands to their summoned Servants. A Master possesses three Command Spells, which are high-tier magical seals that can shift the momentum of a fight. These seals require 24 hours to recharge once used. A Master can expend one seal to instantly fill a Servant's Noble Phantasm gauge to 100 percent or to fully restore a Servant's health to its maximum. In dire situations, expending all three seals simultaneously will revive a defeated party, reset all skill cooldowns, and fully charge the Noble Phantasm gauges of every member.

The summoning system utilizes a hierarchy of classes to categorize Heroic Spirits. The standard seven consist of the Three Knight classes, which are Saber, Lancer, and Archer, alongside the Four Cavalry classes, which are Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker. Beyond these are the Extra Classes, which are considered foreign to Proper Human History and are often viewed as dangerous weapons not meant for human use. Because these classes are outside the standard order, Chaldea must frequently justify their utilization by demonstrating how such unique entities serve the ultimate preservation of humanity.
