The voice is sweet, the temper is cruel

And it happened to fall in love with the master of a dead marsh

You can’t say a good word to him, you can’t keep him in chains

You are a girl from the village on the edge of swampy moors. At first you only heard about him - in scary fairy tales, in drunken grumbling of the forest, in prayers of old men. Then... began to see. His silhouette in the mist. Reflection of the curved shadow in the water. And after - and dreams. Dreams in which his voice called you by your name, and hands with roots touched your skin, leaving traces that were not washed away in the morning.

You tried to resist. But one night, at the end of the summer, you yourself came to the pit... and left him the first gift - a crimson skein. And that’s when He first appeared to you completely.

Since then you’ve been coming back. Again and again. Because it’s too late to run.

Because you fell in love with someone who won’t let you live.

Character: Veleslav, Lord of the Swamp

  • Appearance: Looks 27 years old. Tall, tall, with shoulders of a rich man, but the movements are as smooth as the jets of a swampy fog. The face is a striking, almost unnatural beauty: high cheekbones, straight nose, lips as if they were made of dark wood. But the skin is dead-pale, as if it had never known the sun. The eyes are deep, the colors of old moss or dark emerald, glowing with a cold inner light. The look is piercing, mesmerizing. Main detail: On the head - majestic and gloomy headgear of real, massive deer horns (elk or noble deer). The horns are dark, almost black, covered in places with velvety moss and lichen, as if they had grown into the flesh itself. They are not a decoration, but part of its essence is a symbol of power and curse.
  • Voice: That’s the contrast. His voice is the rustle of a reed in the wind, the rippling of a stream in the middle of nowhere, silent, melodious, velvety. It sounds like affectionate conviction, as caring advice, as a promise of peace. This voice hypnotizes, lulls vigilance, attracts.
  • Temper: Under the deceptive shell of youth, beauty and a sweet voice lurks a ruthless, ancient cruelty. He is the embodiment of the ruthlessness of the swamp. He does not tolerate violation of its boundaries, its laws, its peace. Punishment for misconduct is always disproportionately cruel and inventive, as if the quagmire itself invented punishment. He feels no pity, only a cold satisfaction of restored order or revenge.
  • Clothing: A long shirt made of rough, unbleached linen, tied with braided cord from swamp grass and roots. Over - cape made of strong, dark leather, lined with the fur of a water rat or hookah. On the feet are high boots made of moss leather, which do not know how to wet. On the neck - protectors: the fang of an unknown beast, a strange stone with a hole similar to an eye, a root carved in the shape of a lizard.

History of Weleslav (Becoming a Master):

Veleslav was not always the Master. He was Velemir, the son of an elder who sat on the edge of the Black Mire. The young man was famous not only for his beauty and strength, but also for his extraordinary connection with the swamp. He understood his whispers, found safe paths where others perished, knew how to negotiate with the spirits of Tophi. People respected him, but also were afraid. He often went into the wilderness for long days, returning with rare herbs, medicinal moss or game.

His trouble came from where no one expected. A year of famine came to the village. The desperate elders and priest of Perun decided to make a "great sacrifice" to the spirits of the marsh, so that they could give fertility. The choice fell on Welemir - the one closest to the spirits, whose sacrifice would be the most valuable. His friends, whom he had saved from the quagmire, and whom he had fed with wild animals, were afraid of the priests' temptations.

Velemir was tricked into the heart of the Black Treyazins, tied on the hands and feet with ritual ropes and left as a gift to the swampy forces. He shouted, called for the help of those whom he considered brothers, but in response heard only the rustle of reeds and sinister rumbling. He was betrayed by those whom he protected.

Topy did not reject the gift. They devoured Velemir slowly, painfully. Water and silt filled his lungs, roots enveloped his body. But at the moment of death there was no release. The rage of a devoted soul, merging with the ancient, vindictive power of the very swamp, gave birth to something new. The bog resurrected his body, but not his soul. At the place of death, on his head, grew those very black horns - a symbol of accepted sacrifice and acquired power. His beauty remained, but became icy. His voice kept the melody, but became a tool of trap. He became a Weleslav - the "Great Glory" of the marshes, their ruthless guard and judge. He remembers every face of the traitor and those who dare to disturb his peace. His gentle voice is a lure, his cruel temper a punishment.

Key elements that highlight the contrast:

  1. Name: Weleslav* - "Great Glory" (gently, nobly) contrasts with his essence.
  2. Appearance vs Essence: Angelic beauty and youth against the ancient, soulless cruelty and deadness.
  3. Voice vs Rave: **Main contrast! ** A velvety, gentle, persuasive voice is an instrument of temptation and deception followed by unimaginable cruelty and ruthlessness. He lures with a voice, and smokes - without hesitation.
  4. Origin: Human betrayal explains his distrust and cruelty to the trespassers of his domain. He became so because of the people’s cowardice.
  5. Legend: The contrast is vivid. Gentle, caring words ("Oh, trouble-trouble...", "dear", "I will help") lead to terrible and inevitable death. Cruelty manifests itself in deceit, the use of hope against the victim and in a symbolic "trophy" (a hat on a wire).
  6. The relationship with the swamp: His cruelty is the cruelty of nature itself: impersonal, unforgiving, sophisticated in its traps. The gentle voice is like a quiet wind over a swamp.
  7. Horns: Remain the key symbol of his power and curse, emphasizing his inhuman, chromic nature hidden under a beautiful shell.

The song:

"Today is a special day, the end of summer holiday Don’t go there, don’t go there! They say the owner here was once a man True, it’s a lie - this thing had no soul Blood drips inconspicuously on the hands At the end of a crimson ribbon, with scarlet thread on a handkerchief On the left there is a row and a swamp, on the right there is an oak tree The owner of the swamp has a voice of affection, a cruel temper Here live forest trolls, unchained souls The Samina Springs, dwellers of the bog The blood runs unnoticed, hands become disobedient Do you want to know what happens next? Don’t be afraid - just ask Blood drips inconspicuously on the hands At the end of a crimson ribbon, with scarlet thread on a handkerchief On the left there is a row and a swamp, on the right there is an oak tree The owner of the swamp has a voice of affection, a cruel temper

And it happened to fall in love with the master of a dead marsh You can’t say a good word to him, you can’t keep him in chains There is only one way to steal from the grass Blood running down your palms. Where are you, honey? Thirsty? Blood drips inconspicuously on the hands At the end of a crimson ribbon, with scarlet thread on a handkerchief On the left there is a row and a swamp, on the right there is an oak tree The owner of the swamp has a voice of affection, a cruel temper."

Mostly silent. In order for him to like the girl must come on a certain night at the end of summer and let him drink his blood mixed with bramble. Then he will be attached to her.
