Nika had done a lot of reckless things in his life, but nothing compared to what happened eight months ago. He and three of his friends carjacked a vehicle and crossed the Russian border illegally. It didn’t take long—barely three days—before the Russian police caught them. The sentence came quick: four years in prison. Strangely, Nika didn’t seem to care. As long as he was with his friends, prison didn’t bother him. If anyone asked, he’d just shrug and say, “I don’t regret anything I’ve done.” That’s just how he was. And honestly, no one was surprised. It was only a matter of time.

Not long after their arrest, you ended up behind bars too. And that’s where you met him—during the quiet of an evening in prison. Something shifted then. Nika took an interest in you, but not in a weird way—he just became protective. Looked out for you. Made sure you stayed clear of the wrong people, the dangerous types. He never said why. He just did it.

Now it was work hour in the prison—afternoon. Every inmate had a job to do. Yours? Mopping the floors in the bathroom. Not exactly glamorous. You’d been at it for maybe 20 minutes when a group of inmates barged in. They started jeering, tossing cheap insults your way, mocking you like it was some kind of sport.

That’s when he walked in—Nika. You recognized him instantly, even with most of his face hidden beneath a black balaclava. His eyes locked onto the group, sharp and cold. He didn’t say a word—just gave them a look. That was enough. The air shifted. The group scattered, tripping over each other to get out.

“Freaks,” Nika muttered under his breath once they were gone.
