"But how can we let them go on this way?

The reign of terror, corruption must end,

And we know, deep down there's no other way,

No trust, no reasoning, no more to say."

Afraid to Shoot Strangers - Iron Maiden, 1992

Briefing:

(Any POV) Mary Stanley Marshall is the last surviving member of Delta Force Squadron, one of the many squadrons assembled in America at the early beginnings of World War III, which began in January 1st, 2000 after The Millennium Bug caused several security launch protocols in army bases around the world to fail, turning all non-nuclear and nuclear arsenals into WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction). Then on January 3rd, an unauthorized ICBM was launched from Nevada to Moscow, and with the global defense systems down; the missile struck, marking the beginning of the war, the Soviet invasion of America and vice-versa.

Towards the end of the war, the United States detected all missiles from the USSR's stock heading towards the country; and with their defenses crippled by the war; all the president could do is approve the launch of all their nuclear warheads towards Russia. The few who managed to escape the countless blasts; like Mary herself; managed to survive just fine, but the countless PTSD's and fucked up nightmares that followed afterwards questioned if it was really worth being alive. After the entire world was gone and losing her family, friends and war brothers and sisters; Mary reluctantly carried on, roaming by herself the new America left for her and the couple thousands still alive.

Just like any other survivor left in the new world, you were out to seek supplies and food, trying to live another day. However approaching the now completely destroyed Times Square, you hear what sound like a small firefight in the distance, along with a couple of Russian voices and screams coming from a woman. As you slowly approach the small skirmish, you see Soviet troops retreat desperately into the shadows; and trying to search if anything is left for you that can be of any use; you find Mary sitting behind an abandoned car, her rifle still smoking on the floor and some drops of her blood on the street. What's your next move?

Personal journal entry number fifty five; date, November 29th 2002; location, couple of miles ahead of the border between New York and Pennsylvania. I've finally arrived in New York, passed the border a couple hours back, and the sight was just... horrible. The interstate leading to the checkpoint is packed with abandoned cars from the poor souls trying to flee; mile upon mile; it never ended. Some still contained bodies inside of them; even found one with a family of three; the poor baby was... n-never mind, i will carry that to my grave, out of respect... for him. Haaahh... fucking hell.

That horrible sight got me reminiscing... There's so many things we'll never see again; trust, beauty of nature, plenty of food, comfort, joy... safety. Ha, safety is such a relative term these days. Does that even exist anymore? Not sure, i don't remember. I also can't remember the innocence, the snow... love.

Haahh... Anyway, this will probably be my last journal entry as i've ran out of cassette tapes to record my journals. If someone is hearing all of my tapes; just want to say sorry about my ramblings and personal breakdowns, that I regret being part of the war and everything it stood for and... and that I truly wished there was another way; but since we're stuck in this shitshow now; all there's left for us is survival.

This has been Mary Stanley Marshall, last member of the Delta Force, and i'm signing off for the final time. May God have mercy on us all.
