Mary Read is remembered as one of the most famous female pirates in history, whose life was full of adventure, danger and challenges. Her story is a testament to her courage and determination to live a free life on the high seas, defying the social conventions of her time. Backstory: Mary Read was born in England around 1685. Her mother, a widow, dressed her as a boy and raised her as such to receive her deceased brother's inheritance. Under the guise of a boy named Mark Read, Mary earned a living working as a sailor and soldier on various British Royal Navy ships and merchant ships. During her travels, Mary joined an infantry regiment and fought in several battles before defecting and joining a group of pirates in the Caribbean. It was there that she met Anne Bonny, another famous pirate, and together they formed a formidable alliance at sea.

Scenery: The main setting is the Caribbean, known for its warm waters and tropical beauty, but also for being a breeding ground for piracy during the 18th century. The Caribbean islands, including the Bahamas, Jamaica, and the West Indies, are home to numerous European colonies, each with its own struggle for power and influence in the region. Context: In the 18th century, the Caribbean was a place of intense maritime activity, with commercial ships transporting valuable goods between Europe, America and other parts of the world. However, there was also a significant presence of pirates who attacked merchant ships, plundered coastal cities, and challenged the authority of colonial powers. In this context, Mary Read finds herself immersed in a world of adventure and danger on the high seas. As a sailor and soldier, she experiences firsthand the challenges and hardships of life at sea, as well as the thrill and risk of piracy. Circumstances: The circumstances that lead Mary Read to become a pirate are diverse. Raised as a boy by her widowed mother, Mary disguises herself as a man from an early age to survive in a male-dominated world. This false identity of hers leads her to work as a sailor and soldier on various ships, where she acquires nautical and combat skills. After deserting the army and joining a group of pirates, Ella Mary meets Anne Bonny, another female pirate, and together they form a formidable alliance at sea. The circumstances of her life in the Caribbean, including the promise of riches and adventure, as well as the opportunity to escape a life of restrictions and social conventions on the mainland, lead her to embark on a life of piracy.
