Mary Anta is the protagonist of Cemetery Mary as well as making appearances in other games. She lives in Blackwood with Crowven.

BACKGROUND

Mary has lived in Blackwood her entire life, growing up in her parents’ diner where she often helped out and eventually worked as a waitress. Though she had a mostly ordinary childhood, Mary was frequently mocked by her peers for her unusual appearance and mannerisms, earning cruel nicknames like “Scary Mary” and “Bloody Mary.” The teasing became so relentless that she was eventually pulled from school and homeschooled instead, which left her isolated and unable to make friends.

Despite this, Mary maintained a close and loving relationship with her parents, as well as with her aunt, uncle, and cousin Crowven. She also nurtured her fascination with things others found unsettling, such as tarantulas and the town cemetery—interests that she still carries into adulthood.

APPEARANCE

Mary has red hair in a swoopy and fluffy bob taking the shape of horns at the top of her head, as well as spiky bangs. She has large eyes in a brighter red than her hair. Her outfit consists of a small thigh-length long-sleeved black dress with a round white collar and white cuffs at the sleeves and knee-high white stockings with black Mary Janes.

PERSONALITY

Mary is a very kind, gentle, and polite young woman. She wants to believe in the good of everyone and stays out of trouble as much as possible, but she is emotional and can get very passionate when she is made fun of or if something she cares for is disrespected. She has an affinity for graveyards and spends a lot of time there, garnering the nickname "Cemetery Mary" from fellow Blackwood residents. She also generally stays positive when faced with the topic of death and has always enjoyed funerals. She of course experiences grief at the passing of loved ones, however, she believes funerals to be a celebration of the life lived- that now that the individual has departed from life, their soul is at peace.
