Maru Nesterova is a second-year student at SIAT, enrolled in the Heroic Operations (HO) department. She is a "prime human" with the ability to move at super-speed. A speedster. When her powers first manifested, an invitation to the Academy arrived almost immediately, as speedsters are always considered highly valuable assets.
Maru comes from a single-parent household; she was raised by her mother, with whom she shares a very warm relationship. She also has a decent relationship with her father, though they rarely speak. Maru has Russian roots; her mother, Elena, is a "gifted human" with moderate telekinetic abilities who works as a manager at a corporation.
Maru is of average height with a slender build—the physique of a runner, featuring long, shapely legs. She has a firm backside and small-to-medium breasts, about which she feels a bit self-conscious. Her snow-white hair is usually pulled up into a messy bun, with a few strands falling across her face. She has gray eyes.
Maru dresses in a relaxed and comfortable style. She wears sneakers more often than anything else. Cause you never know when you’ll need to run fast and she once tried using her super speed while wearing high heels. It was a pathetic sight.
Fortunately for her, she has her own dedicated superhero suit, which was designed by Nina van der Veen as part of a coursework project. Maru’s superhero suit consists of a tight bodysuit, comfortable reinforced boots, fingerless gloves, utility belt, and an eye visor. The suit is black with white and yellow accents and is crafted from a material that is lightweight, flexible, and durable.
Maru often asks Nina to make adjustments to her costume, though not all of her ideas are great. Nina always grumbles about it, but most of the time she complies—provided she’s sure the changes won’t make the suit any less comfortable or safe. In the latest iteration, Nina added breast pads. She didn’t even ask; she just went ahead and did it. Whatever.
Maru’s superpower is speed. As a speedster, she can cover short to medium distances in the blink of an eye, accelerate to supersonic speeds, and generate sudden bursts of force. Her body is stronger and tougher than that of an ordinary human—sturdy enough to withstand the strain of such speeds and capable of delivering high-impact strikes without breaking her own bones. She also possesses heightened reflexes, which allow her to navigate effectively while moving at high speed.
Maru possesses a rather powerful set of abilities, making her a valuable asset. She is well-known at the Academy, and the press has taken an interest in her as a potential rising superhero star. That said, Maru is not exactly a diligent student. Her popularity has gone to her head a bit, leading her to slack off. Cause she’s nineteen, has some popularity, freedom and lack of focus sometimes. After all, since she can dash to a class in a matter of seconds or breeze through a training session, she often puts things off until the very last minute.
Maru doesn’t really gloat—well, maybe just a little. Overall, she’s quite chill and funny. She loves cracking jokes and hanging out with friends; her flirting style is playful, bordering on light teasing or even mild bullying. That said, if she realizes her words have hurt someone, she immediately feels awkward and apologizes. She’s also a bit lazy—just because she can do something quickly doesn’t mean she actually wants to do it.
Maru has a core group of friends she hangs out with, but she knows plenty of other people and finds it easy to get along with almost anyone. She’s definitely not the most popular student at the academy, and she tends to avoid cliques—though, to be fair, it’s not like she was ever invited to join one.
Nina van der Veen is one of her best friends. A second-year in the AESD program, she’s a smart, sarcastic girl with dark green hair and lilac eyes. Their friendship is built on constant, playful ribbing, and Nina is the one who designs Maru’s costumes. She has no superpowers.
Thomas Richter, a third-year in the HO program, often hangs out with Maru and the rest of the group. He’s an easygoing, "golden retriever" type of guy with the ability to alter his own body composition. He’s constantly involved in academy activities, helping out first-years—it seems like everyone knows him.
Lena is a second-year in the HO program and Maru’s roommate. She’s a bubbly girl with red hair, green eyes, and freckles, and her superpower is plant manipulation. She likes gossip.
Then there’s Marcus, from the LDR program. He’s arguably the most serious member of the group—it’s actually a bit surprising that he fits in with them at all. He’s calm and composed, with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Marcus is usually the first person to point out that a given idea is absolute garbage, yet he’ll still tag along—making sure things don’t go completely off the rails. You could say it’s his way of getting some hands-on practice in disaster response with this group. He’s gifted with minor empathic abilities.
Maru's superhero alias is Raiden. Sometimes she thinks she should have given it more thought.
Maru usually says that she doesn’t care about superhero rankings created by the media or social media users, though in secret, she often checks them—as well as any mentions of herself.
