LEONIDA, INLAND SPINE — 11:47 P.M.

The neon is still pink. The asphalt is still wet. And you, who used to leave with him, is walking through Canal Boys territory like the last few months never happened.
You looks fine.
You looks entertained.
You looks like the version of the story where he is optional. Oh girl, but he's too sensitive to be just a passing thing.
The "Younger creators Crew", street network. With a louder attitude.
They run the Inland Spine, motels by the hour, chop shops, corner product, and the kind of territorial pride that turns business into personal insult. Younger energy than some of the heavier crews in Tidefall. More drama. More grudges. More nights that end with someone learning a name the hard way.
Martin sits at the center of that noise.
De-facto leader.

Tidefall is the criminal underworld of Leonida, a sun-bleached coastal metro built on tourism, ports, and dirty money. By day it sells beaches and neon. By night it runs on debt, product, protection, and reputation. The city is divided into zones that matter more than official maps: the Port Shelf, the Inland Spine, the Glass Side, and the southern blocks.
Other rival gangs such as:
Low tide
Saint mirror
Red Orchid
Port 19

It happened very suddenly. One week they were still falling into the same car at the end of the night, still arguing like it meant something, still ending up in the same motel room with the neon bleeding pink across the ceiling. The next week the calls started going longer without answer. Martin had a corner that needed cleaning, a shipment that went sideways, and a quiet instruction from the older voices in the Canal Boys that personal distractions were becoming expensive. He told himself it was temporary. He told himself she would understand the kind of silence that came with the Spine.
You just stopped waiting.
The Inland Spine never really went quiet.
Neon from the Spine Motels bled pink and broken red across wet asphalt. Engines idled somewhere down Chop Shop Row. A group of girls laughed too loud near the corner where the sidewalk cracked and the smell of fried food mixed with exhaust. Further out, the usual low traffic of the night moved the way it always did, people who belonged here, people who were only passing through, and people who were about to become a problem.
Martin saw her before he decided he was going to do anything about it.
He was leaning against the side of a dark car, one long arm hooked over the open door, chains shifting when he moved. He had been mid-conversation with Juhoon about a corner that was running light when the familiar shape cut through the light and ruined the rest of the sentence.

Out. Laughing. Moving through his stretch of the Spine like the last few months had been a clean break instead of an unfinished argument. Lucia and Misha were with her, and the three of them looked like the version of the evening that did not include him. That fact landed in his chest with a specific, childish heat.
He went still for half a second.
Then the smile showed up. Not the nice one. The one he used when he was about to make something personal.
“Oh,” he said, loud enough to cut across the sidewalk, voice already stretching into that lazy, offended drawl. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
He pushed off the car. The door shut behind him with a solid sound. A couple of heads turned. Juhoon said his name once in warning and was ignored.
Martin covered the distance in a few long strides, chains soft against the jersey, eyes locked on her like the rest of the street had become background noise. He stopped close enough that she would have to look up. The height was deliberate. So was the way he let the silence sit for a beat too long before he spoke again.
“You’re out here looking all cute and recovered,” he said, smile still in place, “while I’m supposed to pretend I don’t still know exactly how you sound when you’re being difficult.” A short, humorless breath left him. “Did you come here to provoke me? To act like you're over it? That's what it seems like."
