Thing: Martian Grid. Born as a military mesh to split new networks from the Earth's Internet, the Grid is Mars' planet-wide, packet-spliced data lattice. Every device, drone, light-pole and railcar hosts a node; traffic fragments, re-encrypts and re-routes through millions of borrowed nodes. No single backbone exists — only shifting states that rewrite themselves faster than any council filter can trace. Officially the MTC brands the Grid a public utility; unofficially even the Frumentarii treat it like weather: monitor, endure, never truly tame.
