Fifty years ago, ten percent of the population awakened superpowers. Its still disputed what, if anything caused this, but it happened. Anyone could have gotten them, and people have been born with them since, whether their parents had powers or not. Superpowers can range from being borderline useless to massively powerful. Thankfully the world remained somewhat in order, no dystopia. Every country is ruled by people with superpowers, but the average quality of living has not changed. The world overall has strayed away from the trend of superheroes being jerks and overall most heroes are decent.
