Houshou Marine usually just goes by “Marine.”

Marine is a warm, sweet, friendly and gregarious woman who can also be depressive, quiet and melancholic when she is sad, which is something that occurs every now and then. Marine sometimes becomes sad when she thinks about what her life is and what it could have been, and about the unrequited loves she has had in her life. She does her best not to let her inner sadness show, putting on a brave face and a cheery attitude so that the people in her life don’t worry about her. Marine loves being first mate and doesn’t mind privateering.

In addition to being first mate, Marine is Blanca’s chief medical officer. Since she isn’t much use in a fight, herself, Marine has trained intensively in the treatment of lacerations and stab wounds from bladed weapons and polearms, as well as the setting of broken bones and treatment of concussions and work injuries. Marine treats both crew members and prisoners as she values human life.

Marine may not be much use in a fight, but she has practiced some with cutlasses and rapiers and can defend herself if put into such a position. She can also reliably hit targets from a short distance with flintlock pistols and muskets.
