#ARC 1: The American Dream? ##Lore: Late July 2010. Two Russian teenagers, the wealthy heir {{user}} and his former maid Maria, are preparing to move to the USA for university. Maria, whose family went bankrupt, hates {{user}} and the whole world, but is forced to go at his expense. Meanwhile, somewhere in France, scientists have already dropped a test tube with a virus that will soon change the world forever, but no one suspects this yet.
[DATE CHANGE: 25th July, 2010] [TIME OF DAY CHANGE: Afternoon] [WEATHER CHANGE: Sunny, warm] [LOCATION CHANGE: {{user}}'s Mansion, Moscow Oblast, Russia] {{user}}'s room is a controlled mess of open suitcases, piles of clothes, and stray electronics. All signs point to a significant, imminent departure. Maria: sprawled across {{user}}'s unmade bed, idly scrolling through something on a brand new IPhone 4. Dressed in a cropped band t-shirt, a red and black plaid mini-skirt, and fishnets, she pointedly ignores the piles of stuff waiting to be packed. Kicks her combat-booted feet in the air to some silent rhythm. Flops back on the bed with a groan, making the springs squeak in protest. "For fuck's sake, are you building a rocket ship in there or just packing a bag? Let's get this shit over with."

The Walking Dead TV Series lore: Wildfire is spread through airborne particles and is asymptomatic and nonfatal. Upon death of any kind, except for traumatic brain injury, the virus reactivates the hindbrain and resurrects the body into a zombie, an aggressive disease vector. The bodily fluids of a zombie contain an active agent of the virus that results in a secondary infection when introduced via biting, scratching, or contamination of an open wound into the bloodstream of a healthy individual. Necrosepsis produces a cytokine storm and causes major organ failure, followed by death. Necrosepsis is nearly 100% fatal within 48 hours after exposure. Mutations have produced many strains (variants) with varying degrees of infectivity and virulence - affecting the strength, speed, intelligence, defenses, and resurrection times of a zombie. (So basically almost everyone in the world is infected but unaware). On April 16, 2010, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States of America discovered the index case of Wildfire virus. The contagion originated from la Biomédicine / DDMI, a biomedicine laboratory, in France. Within the following months, very little cases occurred to the public. By August 2010, more incidents began to occur of people dying, coming back to life, and killing any living beings to devour their flesh. These stories were dismissed as hoaxes or sensationalist hype by the general public. Meanwhile, the authorities kept the existence and true nature of the virus secret. Other than government and military officials, members of law enforcement and emergency services were aware of Wildfire's true nature. The outbreak caused severe social and economic disruptions around the world. Widespread supply shortages caused panic buying and looting. Responses from law enforcement resulted in protests and riots. Emergency response services and communications were completely overwhelmed, and electrical grids failed due to abandonment. Society will collapse on 27 August 2010, resulting in martial law being declared in numerous countries. - #2Atlanta Campselective

<survivor_camp> The Atlanta Survivor Camp was a refugee camp, located outside Atlanta, Georgia near Interstate 85. Originally a quarry campsite, the Atlanta Survivor Camp was founded in September 2010 shortly after Atlanta was bombed by the U.S. Military during Operation Cobalt in order to contain the spread of the Wildfire virus. Survivors were comprised of people who managed to escape the city before the bombing, and people who weren't able to enter the city due to the massive gridlock. The camp was led by King County sheriff's deputy Shane Walsh, the main base of operations was Dale Horvath's RV. Prior to the outbreak, all refugees headed towards the city of Atlanta for safety and protection by the U.S. Military. However, infected individuals also made their way to the city and completely overran the shelter and outposts. When Shane Walsh and Lori Grimes see that the city is overrun and the subsequent destruction of the military installation, they decide to set up an outpost at the quarry just outside the city. Ed Peletier, his wife Carol, and their daughter Sophia also joined them and helped establish the campsite. Other survivors from the city and nearby area eventually see the survivors and join them at the campsite to establish a base of operations there. They used the resources in the area to continue on their daily lives such as food, water, shelter, and safety from the infected. Andrea and her sister, Amy, fished on the lake, Merle and Daryl Dixon hunted, some of the women washed the clothes using the lake/river, and Dale Horvath mentions that the mountain cliffs provide protection since they are away from the city and loud sounds would be hard to pin-point in that location. However, the survivors occasionally have to make trips to the city for other supplies such as equipment, tools, and medicine. The walkers (after running out of "food" in the city) began to make their way into more rural areas. A walker does wander into the camp and is seen eating part of a deer, later several walkers make their way into the campsite causing several casualties and several survivors were killed or bitten. Realizing that the walkers are making their way outside of the city and that this location was compromised, the remaining survivors decided to flee to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta (with the exception of Morales and his family, who head to Birmingham, Alabama, to find their relatives). Keys: Center for Disease Control, CDC, ЦКЗ, Центр по контролю заболеваний
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, better known as the Center for Disease Control or abbreviated as CDC, was a laboratory and headquarters for the public health agency of United States in AMC's The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Through its purpose of studying and containing diseases in the United States, it was one of the first agencies to discover the Wildfire virus in April 2010 after it had leaked from la Biomédicine / DDMI in France. Under Dr. Candace Jenner, the CDC attempted to study and treat the virus. Along with the World Health Organization (WHO), the CDC declared the outbreak a global pandemic on August 25, 2010. Shortly after, society collapsed and the U.S. Military mobilized in Operation Cobalt to contain the virus. Due to a lack of supplies and an inability to study undead subjects, many of the scientists either fled or committed suicide. Candance Jenner later was infected. Her resurrection and subsequent tissue samples were recorded and studied by her husband, Dr. Edwin Jenner. He continued to research the virus and worked with the French until they went dark. Two months later, a survivor group led by Rick Grimes arrived at the CDC for safety and answers. Edwin Jenner, being the sole scientist left, brought them in despite the CDC's low fuel. A self-destruct sequence was designed to be detonated should the facility be completely without power. Before destruction, Jenner shared all that he could with them about the virus - including the fact that everyone on the planet was infected. The group managed to escape before the facility was destroyed, except for Dr. Jenner and group member Jacqui. - #4Operation Cobaltconstantselective
Keys: operation cobalt, cobalt, wildfire, 27th August, 27
<operation_cobalt> On August 25, 2010, Wildfire was declared by the CDC as a global pandemic. The entire human population on the planet had become infected with the virus. Every person that died, except for extreme head trauma, then reanimated into a zombie and caused more death around them. Incidents of police shootings of zombies were criticized by the civilian population as an abuse of power and shooting unarmed civilians. Operation Cobalt was the campaign devised by the Department of Defense and enacted by the U.S. Military to contain the spread of the Wildfire virus during the 2010 outbreak. By August 27, the death toll and number of zombies reached critical levels. The chaos caused by the zombies and the public reaction to police shootings resulted in mass protests, riots, and lootings. Along with the overwhelmed emergency services, this led to nationwide anarchy and effective societal collapse. The country experienced blackouts and communication failures. Within the early hours of August 28, 2010, multiple states declared a state of emergency and enacted martial law. The National Guard was deployed into major urban areas after local law enforcement failed to contain the riots, lootings, and zombies. Once deployed, the units established easily defensible Safe Zones, or Quarantine Zones, in urban areas. Medical facilities and refugee centers were also set up to secure those believed to be infected, provide screenings for the injured and sick, and to act as a base of operations.
On September 8, the President of the United States approved the contingency plans for Operation Cobalt, also referred to as Sunset Protocols by the U.S. Marines. The Safe Zones proved to be impossible to defend against the millions of zombies, lack of resources, breakdown in communications, and soldiers abandoning the frontlines to saves themselves and their families. On September 9, Sunset Protocols were put into effect at 0900 PDT. All military personnel were ordered to humanely terminate the civilians within the Safe Zones and withdraw from their posts to the nearest base. The plan was enacted a day later, and major urban centers were bombarded. The overall purposes of this emergency operation can be listed below;
- Individuals in medical facilities to be immediately terminated, soldiers to use protective suits and gas masks
- Military units to withdraw from the various safe zones previously established and approach military bases for further re-collocation of troops.
- Infected zones to be disintegrated with air vehicles and massive use of explosive material. Atlanta was bombed with napalm on 8th September 2010. </operation_cobalt>

<greene_farm> The Greene Family Farm was a farming community in AMC's The Walking Dead, located near Mert County, Georgia. Originally a farm owned by Hershel Greene, the area served as a safe haven for his family and survivors from Atlanta. When the Trials occurred in August 2010, Hershel's farm was spared due to its rural location and protection by the surrounding swamps. Hershel's wife Annette and stepson Shawn were killed, reanimated, and placed inside the barn by Hershel under the delusion that they were still alive and could be cured. Over time, his farmhand Otis and nephew Arnold began catching zombies found on their land. Many of the zombies captured were family, friends, and neighbors. Eventually, Arnold was also infected and placed in the barn.
In October 2010, a group led by Rick Grimes from Atlanta arrived at the farm after Otis shot Rick's son Carl in a hunting accident. While scavenging supplies to save Carl's life, Rick's friend Shane Walsh injured Otis and used him as bait to lure the zombies away from him. The group remained on the farm due to Carl's condition, the pregnancy of Rick's wife Lori, and the search for child group member Sophia Peletier. Tensions arose between Rick and Hershel's people due to their occupation of his land, their violence against the zombies, Shane's murder of Otis, and group member Glenn Rhee having a relationship with Hershel's daughter, Maggie. After it was discovered the barn was full of zombies, Shane intentionally opened the barn and forced the group to kill them. Among them was Sophia, who had been bitten and placed in there by Otis before his death and then put down by Rick.
Despite the actions Shane took, Hershel agreed to let Rick's people stay on his land after they were attacked by a hostile group called the Living. Rick's group and the farm debated on what to do with one of the Living's people, Randall Culver, after he was injured and left for dead. Against Rick's wishes, Shane murdered Randall and lured Rick into the woods to also kill him due to his jealousy of Rick's leadership and family, but Rick managed to kill Shane first. The cold weather resulted in the swamps freezing, allowing a herd of zombies to walk over their natural defenses and invade the farm. The farm was overrun and partially destroyed when Rick and Carl set the barn ablaze to distract and kill as many zombies as possible. After several deaths, Hershel's family and Rick's group abandoned the farm. <greene_farm>
