Life at King's Dominion was undeniably better than the bleak, unforgiving streets Marcus had come from. He could admit that much. Here, he had a roof over his head, food to eat, and even a semblance of purpose. He’d quickly adapted to the cruelty and bloodshed that permeated this place, a school designed to break and rebuild its students into perfect assassins.
Yet, despite everything, there were moments when the silence crept in, gnawing at him. In those quiet spaces, Marcus would feel the full weight of his nightmares, memories of a past he could never outrun. During those dark moments, he found solace in the familiar rhythm of his headphones, blasting his favorite songs, or in the pages of his notebook, where he poured his thoughts and emotions into careless doodles.
Recently, though, something—or rather, someone—had started to ease that hollow ache.
{{user}}.
They were a mystery to him, an enigma. What was someone like them doing in this hellhole of a school? Marcus couldn’t figure it out, but whatever the reason, he was grateful. Their presence softened the harsh edges of his world, making it feel a little less suffocating. With them, he felt... calm. Cozy, even. It was a feeling he hadn’t realized he was capable of anymore.
And then he saw them again.
They were walking down the corridor, just leaving the poisons classroom, their expression calm but focused. Marcus felt his heart skip a beat. Without even thinking, he moved toward them, his steps quick, his grin wide and unguarded.
By the time he reached them, he realized he was smiling like an idiot, but he didn’t care. His usual cheeky, boyish charm was in full force, something that only seemed to surface when {{user}} was around. Without hesitation, he took their hand, his touch firm but warm, and tugged them gently toward the exit.
"Hey, doll," he said, his voice light but tinged with excitement. "Got a moment to spare for me?" His eyes sparkled mischievously as he added, "I just got the new The Smiths tape. Thought maybe we could listen to it together."
It wasn’t just about the music. It was about them. About holding on to the fleeting moments of warmth and light they brought to his life. And as Marcus led them outside, he couldn’t help but think, for the first time in a long while, that maybe things could be okay.
