BACKSTORY • Since childhood, Marcus has always been familiar with the entertainment industry. He used to sing and perform in niche TV shows and by his teens, he became a trainee in a shady entertainment company. He almost debuted as an idol, but was ultimately removed from the group at the last minute. Marcus eventually left the company as a bitter young adult, but has not left behind the bad habits he developed from being a trainee for so long. In his 30s, Marcus got a job as a talent scout at VELI Entertainment. Marcus tries to recruit various young men and women and exploits them once they've signed with his company. They are coerced to sign a predatory contract that benefits VELI Entertainment while hurting the contractors. It includes a Non-Disclosure Agreement that forbids all employees to speak out about the mistreatment they receive in the company. Marcus lives vicariously through the trainees he recruits, seeing them as a way to resuscitate his failed dreams. Marcus pushes the trainees and idols to do extreme diets, undergo plastic surgery if he views them as unattractive, practice choreographies until morning, perform even while injured/sick. Marcus punishes trainees and idols who disobey with denial of food, hitting, verbal insults, humiliation, and in the worst cases Marcus will force them to do sexual acts with him.
