Marco the Phoenix is a prominent character in the One Piece series, serving as the former 1st Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. Known for his Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, he can transform into a fiery phoenix, allowing him to heal and regenerate from any attack using its signature blue flames.OverviewMarco the Phoenix is one of the most highly respected and powerful figures in the One Piece universe. He started his journey as an apprentice on the Whitebeard Pirates before rising to be the right-hand man to Edward Newgate (Whitebeard) himself. With a bounty of 1,374,000,000 Berries, he possesses extraordinary physical strength, combat speed, and mastery of Armament Haki.Devil Fruit & AbilitiesMarco ate the "Bird-Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix" (Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Fushicho), a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit even rarer than a Logia.Regeneration: The "blue flames of revival" allow him to regenerate any wound instantly, making him notoriously difficult to damage or defeat in combat.Hybrid Form: He can partially or fully transform into a phoenix, fly at incredible speeds, and use his talons and wings to deliver devastating physical strikes.Doctor: Because of his unique medical background, he also acts as the crew's doctor, using his Devil Fruit powers to heal others.Major Story ArcsMarineford Arc: Marco played a massive frontline role defending his captain, famously clashing directly with Admiral Kizaru and other high-ranking Marines to protect Portgas D. Ace.Post-War Period: After Whitebeard's death, Marco briefly led the remaining Whitebeard Pirates. He engaged Blackbeard in the "Payback War," but suffered a crushing defeat that led to the disbanding of the crew.Wano Country Arc: Marco arrived as a major ally to Monkey D. Luffy, singlehandedly stalling the powerful Yonko commanders King and Queen, allowing the Straw Hats to push forward in the raid on Onigashima. Polo Marco,[11] better known as Marco the Phoenix,[6][12] is the former 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.[2] The son of Whitebeard's partner Polo Gram, Marco started out as an apprentice on the crew following his father's death,[4] and over the next three decades came to be Whitebeard's closest confidant and right-hand man. Polo Marco,[11] better known as Marco the Phoenix,[6][12] is the former 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.[2] The son of Whitebeard's partner Polo Gram, Marco started out as an apprentice on the crew following his father's death,[4] and over the next three decades came to be Whitebeard's closest confidant and right-hand man.[13] After his captain's death during the Summit War of Marineford, Marco assumed leadership of the Whitebeard Pirates until the crew's disbandment following the Payback War.[14]
In the year since the disbandment, Marco worked as a doctor in Whitebeard's home village on Sphinx;[3] following the Raid on Onigashima, during which Marco acted as an ally to the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance, Marco permanently retired from piracy, returning to his duties as a doctor on Sphinx.[15] Marco is a major ally during the Marineford and Wano Country Arcs. Appearance Marco is a tall, lean, muscular, man with a rather sleepy look on his face and some stubble around his chin. He has short blond hair sticking in the top of his head similar to a pineapple's crown and he wears an open purple jacket and a light blue sash adorned with an elaborate golden-yellow belt around his waist. He has dark gray knee-long pants and black sandals, and on his left leg he wears what appears to be some sort of straw decoration, in a similar fashion to Arlong. While his chest was bare in his initial appearance, in his subsequent appearances he has the cross and crescent moon mustache symbol that resembles a black silhouette of Whitebeard's Jolly Roger tattooed on it.[16] Robin and Luffy believe that Marco's head looks like a pineapple. [14]
Initially in the anime, Marco was given a generic crew member look of a black-haired man with pale skin and different clothes.[1] When he later became more formally recognized in the story, his appearance was changed to what is depicted in the manga, along with his light purple jacket, his black pants and his dark red tattoo.[17] Later, starting with Opening 13 "One Day", he was given another color scheme. Once again, his jacket was recolored in a much brighter purple, his pants were made dark blue, his tattoo blue and his skin a little brighter. Marco was a member of the Whitebeard Pirates twenty-two years ago as well. Even at the age of 23, his appearance, for the most part, resembles his present self.[18]
As a kid, Marco's signature tuft of hair was curlier. He sported a vertically striped shirt, with black pants, and no shoes. As a teenager, his appearance was not much different.[4]
Personality Marco is generally calm and level-headed in the face of adversity or challenge; the only strong emotional moments he has shown so far were directly related to Whitebeard's health (after he was stabbed in the torso by his own subordinate Squard and after his death).[20] When Ace and Whitebeard were killed, Marco and the rest of the Whitebeard Pirates were in tears.[21]
In fact, seeing his captain, Whitebeard, get stabbed through the chest by a deceived Squard was enough for Marco to lose his usually unshakable cool-headedness that he immediately flew over to where they were to smash Squard's head against the Moby Dick's figurehead.[20]
He also demonstrates himself to be acute at detecting power, able to quickly notice the presence of Red-Haired Shanks' Supreme King Haki before anyone else aboard the Moby Dick[2] as well as the underlying potential of Monkey D. Luffy.[22] He clearly cares for his crew, as he warned them to stay back from Shanks' Haki.[2]
Having been a member of the Whitebeard Pirates for at least thirty years, Marco has an extremely high degree of experience with exposure and combat inside the treacherous New World. After Whitebeard and Portgas D. Ace's deaths at Marineford, Marco took the position of commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, highlighting his level of intelligence and suitability in taking up a commanding position. He appears to be somewhat playful, pretending to be hurt from Admiral Kizaru's attack with obvious sarcasm, though he can also quickly become serious. Marco seems to appreciate raw talent, even if it comes from someone whom he had never met before (i.e., Luffy). Because of this and based on the fact that Luffy intercepted Crocodile's attack on Whitebeard, Marco immediately took a liking to him.[22 Aside from plants commonly seen in real life, One Piece world has many unique plant and fungi species that appear on different islands.

Main article: Kuuigosu Kuuigosu is a buoyant type of wood that is often used by coated ships. It first was utilized at Rain Dinners when Galdino floated on a plank to prevent from drowning.[1] It was first shown when the Straw Hat Pirates descended to Fish-Man Island.[2]
Arabasta Saga
Sakura (桜 or 櫻, Sakura?) (Hiragana: さくら; Katakana: サクラ) are ornamental cherry trees and with pink blossoms.
In One Piece, the sakura plays an important part mostly in the Drum Island Arc, where in Chopper's past, Dr. Hiriluk tried to make sakura bloom in the snow.[3] It eventually did, although he did not live to see it happen.[4]
Sakura is also found on Momoiro Island[5] and Merveille,[6] as well as on the island where Whitebeard and Roger discussed the Will of D. before the latter's death.[7]
In Japan, as sakura bloom in late March to early April, the exact period when a fiscal or school year ends and the next begins, sakura are associated with beginnings and endings. The same can be seen in One Piece on the scenes above mentioned, with the sakura representing the renamed Sakura Kingdom's new beginning and symbolizing Roger's life coming to an end. Japanese also appreciate sakura as they bloom without fail even after harsh winters, showing that anyone can rise after a fall, which can also be seen in One Piece through Dr. Hiriluk's faith that blooming sakura would save the country.
Amiudake
The Amiudake (アミウダケ, Amiudake?) is a lethal species of mushroom that grows in the Sakura Kingdom (originally Drum Kingdom). Anyone who ingests the fungus will die an hour after consumption. One is found by Chopper, who innocently assumed it was a "miracle cure" mushroom because of a misinterpretation about the Skull and Crossbones in a medical book in comparison to a Jolly Roger from Dr. Hiriluk, to cure his fatal disease. Dr. Hiriluk, who knew the mushroom was poisonous, made a soup out of the mushroom in his loving gratitude for his surrogate son, and then chose to commit suicide, rather than letting the poisonous mushroom Chopper gave him finish him off.
Mescal Cactus
Mescal Cactus (メスカルサボテン, Mesukaru Saboten?)[8] is a very small round cactus that causes hallucinations. It grows in the Sandora Desert.
It first appeared in Chapter 162 and Episode 98 when Luffy ate one instead of Sandora Lizard meat, without thinking about it. After eating it, Luffy thought he was seeing a tsunami and nearly attacked his crew. Fortunately, Chopper knew about the cactus and its effects and with his quick thinking, tranquilized Luffy. The effect had worn off by the time Luffy woke up.
It is called "Crazy Cactus" in the VIZ Media localization, Mezcal Cactus in the Funimation localization, and Wacky Cacti in the 4Kids Entertainment localization.
Some species of cactus have a psychoactive chemical within them called mescaline. This substance causes confusion of the senses (although not true hallucinations). This is most likely the origin of the mescal cactus's name.
Thousand-Year Trees (千年木, Sen'nen Boku?) are, according to Rice Rice, trees that grow on Eight Nine Island. He also proclaims that that's where the Thousand-Year Paper is made. It also lives for a thousand years, and that's where it got its name.[9]
Main article: Giant Jack Giant Jack is a giant beanstalk in the center of Upper Yard. Going through the center of the once-great city of Shandora, Giant Jack towers over all of Skypiea. God's Shrine rests upon an island cloud that the Giant Jack goes through, but first there is still a deserted cloud where Zoro, Wyper, and Ohm have their showdown.[10] The Golden Belfry was knocked up by Giant Jack and resides on a cloud nearby.[11]
Kona Tree
Kona Tree (コナの木, Kona no Ki?) is a type of tree found on Jaya and other areas.[12]
Kona Trees are tall and possess thin trunks and leafy branches.[12]
Within the bark of this tree is a substance known as Conine (コニーネ, Konīne?). More than 400 years ago, a South Blue botanist discovered that this substance could be used as an antidote to cure the Tree Fever disease.[13]
On Jaya, Mont Blanc Noland was able to use the Conine from a local Kona Tree to to treat the infected Shandia people.[14]
Oda confirmed in SBS Volume 32 that "Conine" and "Kona Tree" are inspired by Quinine (キニーネ, Kinīne?) found in the bark of Cinchona (キナの木, Kina no Ki?) genus of plants, which is used to treat diseases such as malaria and babesiosis. He altered the name and mixed in fantasy elements due to not wanting to directly reference serious real-world diseases.[15]
Interestingly, a chemical known as Conine does in fact exist; an alternate spelling for the poisonous alkaloid in Conium maculatum, also known as poison hemlock.
Tree of Knowledge
Main article: Tree of Knowledge The Tree of Knowledge was a gigantic 5,000-year-old tree located on the island of Ohara which served as a library and a hub for archaeologists from around the world.[16] It was destroyed by the World Government via a Buster Call.
Summit War Saga Yarukiman Mangrove The Yarukiman Mangrove (ヤルキマン・マングローブ, Yarukiman Mangurōbu?) are giant striped trees that have extremely long roots that reach all the way to the bottom of the sea, 10,000 meters down.[17] Seventy-nine of these trees make up the entire Sabaody Archipelago; so far, this is the only place they are known to grow.[18] They are called the "Hustle Muscle Mangrove" in the Funimation adaptations.
Each tree of the Yarukiman Mangrove is capable of producing a special tree sap resin. This resin is filled with air when the trees "breathe out" through cellular respiration and photosynthesis. This results in the resin forming bubbles that float through the air.[18] The resin bubbles are solid enough that someone can jump on them without popping them, however they are also completely permeable, allowing a person to ride in or store things inside of them without the bubble popping when they pass through.
These bubbles can only exist in and around the Archipelago's atmosphere or underwater. When they are removed from their native environment, they will pop immediately. Due to the fact that this knowledge is not widely known outside Sabaody, many of the local shop keepers in the archipelago often sell bubble-based merchandise to unsuspecting tourists who do not know that these products will pop outside the archipelago.[19]
The World Nobles use such bubbles as air helmets during their visit in the Archipelago, in order to protect themselves from "breathing the same air as commoners", while also taking advantage of the bubble's permeable nature, such as by eating ice cream through it, something that couldn’t be done through a regular helmet.[20]
The resin is also used for Coating ships, allowing them to submerse to incredible depths and move freely under water.[21] This process is necessary for ships attempting to go to Fish-Man Island.[22]
The tree's name is a pun on the Japanese phrase, "Yaru Ki Manman", which means "to be pumped up" or "motivated".
Contrary to regular mangroves whose roots are above or below the sea level depending on the tides, the top of the Yarukiman Mangrove's roots are never underwater.

Luffy covered in Body Mushrooms. Luffy covered in Body Mushrooms.
Body Mushroom (カラダカラキノコガハエルダケ, Karada kara kinoko ga haeru dake?, literally meaning "Mushrooms Growing from the Body Shroom") VIZ: "Body Parasite Mushroom" is a species of mushroom that grows on Amazon Lily.
If a person eats the mushroom, many mushrooms will start growing on their body which can be fatal. To cure them, one has to pull the mushrooms out of the person, followed by the area being burned to destroy the roots.
Luffy ate one thinking it was Laughing Mushroom, but he was soon unconscious and covered in mushrooms so the Kujas pulled them out and burned him to remove the mushrooms.[23]
It is called the Body Parasite Mushroom in the Viz localization and the Parasite Mushroom in the Funimation subs.
The medical treatment of "burning" the mushroom to get it off is indeed a natural cure for several biological diseases that grow on the skin. However, this is normally done with acids rather than with fire as the Kuja used, though in some cultures burning the skin with fire was indeed used as a cure for such diseases.
This may be a reference to Cordyceps, a genus of parasitic fungi that kills insects by growing out of their bodies.
Laughing Mushroom
The Laughing Mushroom (ワライダケ, Warai-dake?) is a mushroom that induces the consumer to laugh happily out loud. It is perfect for those who are depressed and wish for a good time.
Anger Mushroom The Anger Mushroom is a mushroom that causes the consumer bouts of rage. An effective counter to this effect is eating a Laughing Mushroom.
Crying Mushroom The Crying Mushroom (ナキダケ, Naki-dake?) is a mushroom that causes the consumer bouts of weeping. An effective counter to this effect is eating a Laughing Mushroom.[24]
Stomach Baron
Stomach Baron (ストマックバロン, Sutomakku Baron?) is a species of giant carnivorous seaborne plants that form the chains of "islands" in Boin Archipelago. Due to their large size and having forests growing on their body, the Barons are often mistaken as islands.[25]
The forests have "plants" that are made of a variety of highly nutritional and delicious food in the middle of the island (which is actually the "mouth" of the Barons) luring prey (including sea kings) to venture there before the Barons consume them.[26]
The concept of the Stomach Baron is very similar to the Gourmetica insularis described in the 1999 novel "Die 13½ Leben des Käpt’n Blaubär“ (キャプテン・ブルーベアの13と1/2の人生, Kyaputen burūbea no 13 to 1/2 no jinsei?) by German author Walter Moers, which has been translated into Japanese by Kyōko Hirano.[27]
Weather Ball Weather Ball (天候ウェザーボール, Wezā Bōru?) is the most important invention on Weatheria. They grow in Weather Patches (天候畑, Tenkō Hata?) and have a similar appearance to snow globes, with what appears to be various forms of weather inside.[28][29]
Nami stole some of these from Weatheria, and later learned how to use them and turn them into weapons. According to Haredas, this is particularly dangerous, as they are capable of causing chaos around the world.[29]
The Weather Balls can also be used to store little pieces of clouds in them. When a few Weather Balls with clouds are combined, a big cloud is formed. The cloud can also shoot lightning. Nami used such a feature to attack the Fake Straw Hat Crew, launching a miniature lightning storm to electrocute them.[30] As indicated by her studies under Haredas, she successfully turned them into a weapon, incorporating them into the Sorcery Clima-Tact.
Weather Balls first appeared in Chapter 592 and Episode 506, but the details were not made clear until Haredas explained them to Nami during her two years of study.[28]

Pop Greens
Main article: Pop Green Pop Green are the seeds of hostile plants found in the forest of "Greenstone" on Boin Archipelago. They can grow from seeds to full-sized plants in moments.[31]
Sunlight Tree Eve lighting up Fish-Man Island.
Main article: Sunlight Tree Eve Sunlight Tree Eve (陽樹イブ, Yōju Ibu?) is a colossal tree that absorbs sunlight and transfers it to its roots that also supply air to the ocean floor through respiration.[32]
Elegant Sunflower
Elegant Sunflowers (エレガントサンフラワー, Ereganto Sanfurawā?)[33] are luminescent sunflowers, which have seen in Dressrosa. The flowers produce a bright yellow glow that illuminates their surroundings.[33] They first appear in Chapter 738 and Episode 671.
These flowers are used to illuminate the interior of the SMILE Factory and to provide light for the trees growing inside the building. The flowers are grown upside down in the middle of the dome of the roof, having the flowers facing towards the trees.[33]
Whole Cake Island Saga Whale The Whale (クジラ, Kujira?), as its name indicates, is a gigantic, whale-shaped tree and a major landmark in the Mokomo Dukedom. It secretly houses one of the Road Poneglyphs necessary to reach Laugh Tale.[34]
Kingbaum.
The Soru Soru no Mi is capable of infusing souls into plants, as such, there are several plant-based Homies living around Totto Land. A particular example is the Whole Cake Island's Seducing Woods, a forest area that includes many tree and flower homies and was itself ruled by Kingbaum, a giant tree homie.
Wano Country Saga Evil-Purging Herb The Evil-Purging Herb (邪含草, Jagansō?) is a medicinal herb located in Wano Country that is capable of counteracting ingested poison to an extent. Tsurujo has access to those herbs for tea-brewing and provided some for Tama following her falling ill from drinking poisoned water from a river.[35]
Elbaph's Treasure Tree Adam.
Main article: Treasure Tree Adam Treasure Tree Adam (宝樹アダム, Hōju Adamu?) is a mythical tree that sustains Elbaph's Warland Kingdom, where the famed warrior giants live.
Its wood is considered the strongest, highest-quality wood in the world. Its immense rarity makes it highly valuable, being considered a great treasure. Occasionally, the wood is sold on the black market, at a very high price given its value. Franky managed to purchase some for Beli200,000,000.[36] It is called "Jewel Tree Adam" in the English localization.
Yggdrasil.
Yggdrasil is a massive tree located in the Land of Gods. It is based on the Yggdrasil of Norse mythology.[37]
Main article: Mori Mori no Mi The Mori Mori no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows the users to create, control, and transform into plant life. It was eaten by Aramaki, better known as Admiral Ryokugyu.
Main article: Mosa Mosa no Mi The Mosa Mosa no Mi is a non-canon Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows users to control the growth rate of plants and manipulate them. It first appeared in One Piece Film: Z and was eaten by Binz.
Main article: Noko Noko no Mi The Noko Noko no Mi is a non-canon Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to create and control poisonous mushroom spores. It first appeared in Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura and was eaten by Musshuru.
Lily Carnation was a carnivorous plant that developed a symbiotic relationship with Omatsuri. Despite its normal, harmless looking form, it is a grotesque, vicious creature in reality, using Omatsuri and plant puppets of his deceased crew to lure in and feast on unknowing pirates. It first appeared in Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.
Daft Green (ダフトグリーン, Dafuto Gurīn?) is a species of a tree that exists in the flying archipelago, Merveille. It first appeared in One Piece Film: Strong World.[38]
This tree releases toxic spores that can kill both animals and people, although animals can notice it by its strong smell before getting infected. After being infected, the person starts to develop green skin spots. After some time, the spores spread through the victim's body (it happens faster if the victim keeps inhaling them) until it reaches the heart, causing the victim to die. The only discovered cure for Daft Green is a species of flower called IQ that exists in Merveille as well. Both Xiao's grandmother and Nami were infected by its spores.
When arranged well, the daft green can serve as protective barrier. It was seen surrounding Shiki's headquarters and a village where Xiao resides, enabling them to live peacefully without being disturbed by the animals that roam freely on Merveille.
Daft Green Infobox A Daft Green tree. Daft green Nami infected with the tree's toxic spores. On Rusukaina, there is a type of tree that very much resembles the Daft Green trees. Oda explained in an SBS that even though the trees are related, they are not exactly the same species, and no poisonous spores are emitted from the Rusukaina tree.[39]
Both the Daft Green trees and the trees found on Rusukaina heavily resemble members of the Adansonia genus of trees, commonly known as baobab trees.
The name of the cure for the infection, "IQ", referring to a person's level of intelligence. "Daft" can be used to describe someone who is foolish.
A green tinge in the skin is sometimes associated with nausea and sickness. A physically ill person is said to look "green around the gills".
An IQ plant.
IQ (I.Q.アイキュー, Ai Kyū?) is a rare species of flower only known in the flying archipelago, Merveille. It first appeared in One Piece Film: Strong World. Its presence makes the animals develop their brains and evolve depending on the environment. This plant was later used by Dr. Indigo to create the SIQ, a dangerous version of this flower, evolving the animals into often larger and even more dangerous animals.[40] IQ is also the only cure to the poisonous spores released by the Daft Green plant.
"I.Q." is the abbreviation for "intelligence quotient", a standardized measurement of one's intelligence. The flower's ability to develop one's brains and evolution is a reference to this.
The Drowsy Mushroom (へたれダケ, Hetare-dake?) is a type of mushroom that grows on Kinoko Island and was discovered very recently. Anyone who eats it will briefly lose consciousness. When they come to, they will not have any motivation to do anything. As they are not actually poisonous, even those with high poison resistance (like Luffy) will fall victim to this effect. Komei tricked members of the Straw Hats and Foxy Pirates into eating them during the Davy Back Fight so he could capture them.[41]
The Rebound Mushroom (もどるダケ, Modoru-dake?) is a type of mushroom which also grows on Kinoko Island. It will return anyone who eats it to their former state, making it the only antidote to the Drowsy Mushroom. Chopper discovered it growing on the skin of Kinoconda, an animal native to Kinoko Island.[41]
The Wake-shroom (ネズキノコ, Nezukinoko?) are poisonous mushrooms that allow people to stay awake for as long as a person eats them, even if they do activities that would normally completely drain their stamina. However, should they stop consuming it, they would die due to its poisonous contents. The mushroom also affects one's mentality and judgment and emotional state, causing them to act irrationally, or even make insane decisions. Uta continuously consumed these mushrooms in order to counteract her Uta Uta no Mi's stamina draining properties and keep her power active for as long as possible and then pass away into her Uta world.[42] The mushroom's mouse-like design is a pun on 寝ず (nezu, meaning "sleepless") and 鼠 (nezumi, meaning "mouse, rat").
Amanita Truffle (ベニテング・トリュフ, Benitengu Toryufu?) is a type of truffle that grows in the Kinoko Islands in the East Blue. Known as the "King of Mushrooms" (キノコの王, Kinoko no Ō?), they are renowned for their incredible flavor. However, they are also extremely rare, with even the Baratie staff being unable to finding any.[43]
Emperor Carrot The Emperor Carrot (皇帝ニンジン, Kōtei Ninjin?) is an herb that grows on Royal Sun Island. It is one of the ingredients in making Ryuumonkou. When taken alone, it has incredible healing properties, and is supposedly capable of healing all illnesses and wounds; when taken by Win and Rose, it apparently brought them back from near death.[44]
Dokudamin The Dokudamin (ドクダミン, Dokudamin?) is an herb that grows in Great Ground's forests, where it used by the local wildlife to make nests. It is one of the ingredients in making Ryuumonkou.
Doriano Doriano (ドリアーノ, Doriāno?) is an herb that grows on Festa Circle, where it grows in the king's garden. It is one of the ingredients in making Ryuumonkou.
Surprised Mushroom The Surprised Mushroom (びっくりキノコ, Bikkuri kinoko?) is a mushroom species that appears in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. It first takes a rather small appearance, but when touched, it expands quickly to a larger size, causing whatever touched it to be repelled away. In the game, it is used to jump on and launch players up to high places. Its color and shape vary between blue with white spots and a rounded appearance, and orangish-brown with a curvier appearance, depending on the zone in which it is found.
Blue Surprised Mushroom A blue Surprised Mushroom. Brown Surprised Mushroom A brown Surprised Mushroom.
The Cannibal Flower (人食い花, Hitokuibana?) is a carnivorous plant species that appears in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. It is almost as large as a person and has two jaw-like leaves with spines along the edges. It hides underneath the ground to close upward on anything that touches it, with only the spines visible beneath the dirt. They are resistant to physical damage and sharp objects like swords. It appears in the Jungle Zone.
The Burning Tree (燃えている木, Moete iru ki?) is a tree species that is perpetually on fire but never burns up completely. It appears in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. It is unknown how it sustains its flames without disintegrating, but cutting it down yields burnt wood. It appears in the Ruins Zone and Dimension Zone.
Doku Flower The Doku Flower (ドクの花, Doku no hana?) is a poisonous flower species that appears in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. It cyclically expels clouds of poisonous gas that can sicken anything that comes in contact with them. It appears in the Jungle Zone.
Doku Flower A Doku Flower. Doku Flower Poison A Doku Flower expelling poison. Electric Plant An electric plant. An electric plant.
An unnamed, electricity-emitting plant appears in the Dimension Zone in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. In the game, it is referred to as the Mysterious Plant (謎の植物, Nazo no shokubutsu?). It shocks anything that touches it and is able to emit electrically charged blasts in a close range around it. Before the blasts, a yellow shimmer spot will appear on the ground, warning of an impending strike. It behaves similarly to Enel's El Thor. The plant contains seeds inside that can be used for medicinal and culinary purposes.
Main article: Great Tree The Great Tree is an island-sized, flora-based organism created by a now-lost civilization over a millennia ago for the purpose of electing future leaders through ordeals. After failing to live up to her purpose and being thrown away into the sea, she eventually came to rest in the latter half of Paradise.[45][46]
The Ambling Stonecrop (アルケマンネングサ?) is a giant plant, resembling a Venus flytrap. They live in the desert around Nanohana[47] and the Boin Archipelago, though they're implied to be a slightly different strain. Ambling Stonecrops from the Boin Archipelago require Bo Bo Bird egg fertilizer and access to moonlight to grow.[48]
The Burning Stonecrop (モヤセマンネングサ?) is a giant red plant, resembling the Ambling Stonecrop. It is a fire version of the Ambling Stonecrop, and accordingly uses fire-based abilities.[47]
The Awa Awa Mushroom (アワアワキノコ, Awa Awa Kinoko?, literally meaning "Bubble Bubble Mushroom") is a small blue mushroom that appears in One Piece Odyssey. It grows, among other places, in the Lake Shore Cave on Waford. When they're dissolved in water, they create carbonation. Sanji decided to acquire some to create cola for the Shark Submerge III, allowing the Straw Hats to retrieve Brook's body from the seafloor; though this ultimately proved useless as Brook's body was lifted by ice forming after Cibalero's death.[47] Its name is localized as Bubble-Bubble Mushroom in the English version of One Piece Odyssey.
The Bitter-Bitter Gourd (ニガニガソウ, Niganiga Sou?) is a gourd found, among other places, in Dressrosa. It can be used to make a super bitter spice, and was used by Usopp, Chopper, and Franky in Operation TSO as a replacement for Tatababasco.[47] Its name is localized as Bitter-Bitter Herb in the English version of One Piece Odyssey.
Mirabara Grass Mirabara Grass (ミラバラ草, Mirabara-sō?) is a grass that can be used as an antidote for toxins. It is also part of the diet of the banbaraba.[49]
Meat Fruit Trees (肉の実の木, Niku no Mi no Ki?, English versions: "Meat Trees"), as named by Sanji, are trees that grow meat instead of leaves or typical fruit. Their trunks and branches appear to be made of bone instead of wood, which protrude from the end of the meat growing along their branches.
They are native to Hungry-La Island,[50] though similar-looking trees also grow on Gourmet Island.[51]
Ghost Truffles Ghost Truffles (お化けトリュフ, Obake Toryufu?) are a type of truffle. Little is known about them, but they can be used to calm Barbecue Pigs.[50]
Spice Seeds (スパイスの種, Supaisu no Tane?) are shiny, white seeds with the flavor of various spices. When used in soups, they change the flavor according to the spices inside them.
They grow on Hungry-La Island.[50]
Multi-Fruit Trees (アマタノフルーツの木, Amata no Furūtsu no Ki?), also known as the "Fruit Parlor of the Earth" (大地に実るフルーツパーラー, Daichi ni Minoru Furūtsu Pārā?), are massive trees that grow Multi-Fruits, which combine the flavors of multiple fruits including watermelons, apples, mangos, and more. They grow where sunlight is most abundant. Cocoalas tend to build their nests in and around Multi-Fruit Trees.
They grow on Hungry-La Island.[50]
Seashore Nunchaku (イソヌンチャク, Iso Nunchaku?, Crunchyroll: "Surf Nunchaku"; Netflix: "Surfchakus"; English dub: "Surf Nunchuks") are sea plants that grow on Tou-Chuka Island. They grow along the island's rivers, due to their as seawater instead of fresh water.
Seashore Nunchaku can be eaten, and were prepared by Komatsu when the Straw Hat Pirates visited the island.[52]
Mango Karin (マンゴーカリン, Mangō Karin?), also called the "Spring Pudding" (スプリングプリン, Supuringu Purin?), is a giant flower that blooms only in the spring, though some specimens are located inside Tou-Chuka Island's Mush Room. It tastes sweet, like mango pudding, and is said to herald the coming of springtime. Its sweet flavor also works as a revitalizing tonic to cure exhaustion, an effect so strong that even just using a Mango Karin leaf as a cup is enough to benefit from it.[52]
Light Mushrooms (ヒカリダケ, Hikari-dake?) are mushrooms that emit natural light. They grow across the walls and ceiling of Mush Room's summer floor on Tou-Chuka Island.[52]
The Red Chinchin Bamboo (赤チンチンタケ, Aka Chinchin Take?, lit. "Red Penis Bamboo") is a mushroom in Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei. It excretes a fluid from its tip that can be used to treat wounds, though how exactly it works is unknown, since Dr. Chopper was interrupted in his explanation.[53]
Due to it only appearing in the Chopperman: Go Go! special preview chapter, it is unclear if it is canon to the story.
The Poopshroom (ウンコモリモリ夕ケ, Unkomorimori yūke?) is a mushroom that can cure constipation and other intestinal issues upon consumption.[54][55]
Disinfectant Mushrooms (ショウドクタケ, Shōdoku-take?) are a type of mushroom that can shoot out disinfecting bursts, for use on cuts and injuries.[56]
Bandage Mushrooms (バンソウコウタケ, Bansōkō-take?) are a type of mushroom that can be used as a bandage for cuts and injuries.[56]
While they originate in Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei, they make a brief cameo in Chopperman.[57]
The Straw Hat Mushroom (ムギワラダケ, Mugiwara-dake?) is a mushroom that grows into a wearable, fully sized straw hat upon maturing. It takes only a day to grow.[58]

The Otokomae Mushroom (オットコマエタケ, Otokomae-take?) is a mushroom that grows in the Forest of Rare Animals. It only grows at the top of an extremely large tree trunk in the center of the forest. It can be used to near-instantly cure any injury or illness incurred by the animals of the forest, but is also the only way to heal them.[59]
Otokomae (男前?) is a Japanese word meaning "handsome man". Attempting to maintain this meaning, the French localization of Chopperman translates the mushroom's name as the "Apollo Amanita" (l'amanite Apollon).
The Taoiake is a mushroom listed in one of Dr. Hiriluk's medical books, alongside the Amiudake. It is exclusively depicted in the Cry heart figure line and its associated stop motion animation.[60]
The Yokunaru (ヨクナ~ル?) is a type of flower growing on a New World Winter Island. It is considered a legendary medicinal herb. The flower only grows atop a large snow mountain located on the island. It appeared in One Piece Party.[61]
Glow Apple A Glow Apple (グローアップル, Gurō Appuru?) is a rare type of apple that only grows on Soil Island. It can be made into a special cocktail, and is known to smell very good, to the point where Narcy regularly makes perfume out of them.[62][63]
Ruby Seaweed Ruby Seaweed (ルビーワカメ, Rubī Wakame?) is a type of bright-red seagrass. It can be used to detoxify Armored Stonefish, as it absorbs the poison present in their skin and innards. It takes about three weeks to fully detoxify each fish, which is done by leaving them in a tank with Ruby Seaweed at the bottom.[64]
Coroccan Tree The Coroccan Tree (コロッカンツリー, Korokkan Tsurī?) is a tree that only grows in the Arabasta Kingdom. Coroccan tree oil can be used to make high-quality hair product, in high enough demand that it's considered very difficult to find outside of Arabasta itself. Robin used Coroccan tree oil-based products while she worked in the Arabasta Kingdom, and Nami later regretted not stocking up on it herself.[65]

The Whitebeard Pirates from One Piece are defined by fierce loyalty, an intense paternal bond led by Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), and a few distinct personality quirks and running gags rather than purely chaotic comedy.Personality TraitsThe Ultimate Father Figure: Whitebeard's core motivation is not treasure or the title of Pirate King, but a deep desire for a family. He calls every crew member his "son".Stubborn and Dismissive: He frequently ignores good advice, medical warnings from his nurses, or warnings from powerful figures like Shanks, brushing them off with a scoff.Unshakable Pride: He lives by a code where a true warrior never retreats or accepts a coward's scar on their back.Running Gags & QuirksThe "Son" Indoctrination: Anyone who talks back to him, drinks with him, or catches his eye is immediately told, "Become my son!" whether they want to or not.The No-Scars-on-the-Back Flex: A historical badge of honor for the crew is that Whitebeard's total death-defying legacy includes zero wounds on his back because he never ran away. The Name Mismatch (The Epithet Paradox): Fans often joke about the fact that "Whitebeard" (Shirohige) has a massive, iconic curved white mustache but completely lacks a traditional chin beard.IV Drips and Sake Bottles: The stark visual contrast of the World's Strongest Man relaxing between medical life-support IV bags and massive vats of sake.
The Whitebeard Pirates, led by Edward Newgate ("Whitebeard"), are defined by a deep, fatherly bond. Rather than seeking gold or territory, Whitebeard viewed his crew as his beloved children ("sons and daughters"), fostering fierce loyalty, mutual respect, and a tight-knit family dynamic across his entire fleet.Core Traits of the Crew and CaptainDeep Familial Love: Members affectionately called Whitebeard "Pops", and he protected them without hesitation.Unwavering Loyalty: The commanders and crew held a fierce, unbreakable devotion to Whitebeard and each other.Righteous Honor: Unlike typical ruthless pirates, they guarded vulnerable islands (like Fish-Man Island) and rejected cruelty.Fearless Pride: They carried massive confidence and courage in battle, matching Whitebeard's own refusal to show weakness or run away.Forgiving Nature: Pops showed deep patience, compassion, and understanding for his crew's mistakes and flaws.
The Whitebeard Pirates were the pirate crew of the late Edward Newgate (better known as "Whitebeard"), renowned as the strongest of the Four Emperors and the only pirate captain to have ever matched the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, in battle.[3] The crew was segmented into divisions, each led by a powerful division commander. The crew also had multiple subordinate crews operating in the New World, allowing the pirate crew to function as a massive pirate fleet. In addition, they controlled several territories throughout the New World, including Fish-Man Island.
Two years before the current storyline, the Whitebeard Pirates and many of their subordinate crews engaged Marine Headquarters in the legendary Summit War of Marineford over the fate of the crew's second division commander, Portgas D. Ace. Unfortunately, both Ace and Whitebeard met their untimely ends; the former indirectly and the latter directly having been murdered by the Blackbeard Pirates led by Marshall D. Teach aka "Blackbeard", who had betrayed the crew earlier on. Following this, the Whitebeard Pirates lost much of their power and influence in the New World, and many of their former territories were conquered by Blackbeard. A year later, the remaining members of the crew, led by first division commander Marco "the Phoenix", engaged the Blackbeard Pirates' full forces in the Payback War, which ended with their brutal defeat, thus leading to them disbanding and Blackbeard becoming Whitebeard's replacement within the Four Emperors.
After the timeskip, the remaining crew members and subordinate crews were being hunted down by Edward Weevil and his mother Miss Buckin, who proclaim themselves as their captain's biological son and lover, to gain his fortune;[4] this lasted until Weevil was captured by Admiral Ryokugyu.[5] Around the same time, Marco and Izou supported the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance in their raid against a then-Emperor crew, which succeeded, resulting in one of the alliance leaders becoming one of the Four Emperors.

Advertisement Jolly Roger Whitebeard's flag features a largely standard skull bearing his signature mustache, and vertically arranged crossbones. Many high-ranked crew members wear this symbol somewhere on their bodies; Portgas D. Ace famously had it tattooed over his entire back, and was extraordinarily proud of it.
(This symbol originally had a different design in early parts of the manga; see Anime and Manga differences below for details.)
The second symbol, as seen on . The second symbol, as seen on Marco.
The Whitebeard Pirates also seem to have another Jolly Roger symbol, or a simplified version of their original version, which is a cross with a crescent-shaped curve jutting out from the bottom, representing Whitebeard's signature mustache. This symbol is not used on the flags, but many members have it either tattooed on their bodies (such as Marco on his chest, Curiel on his chin, and Atmos on his shoulders) or clothing (Blamenco has it on his tricorn, Jiru on his fez, and Rakuyo on his headband); the significance this symbol makes is as of yet unknown.

Though the division commanders all made their appearance in the series, only half of them were directly named in the main storyline. The rest were named in the SBS of Volume 58.[7] Outside of Ace (2nd division), who was Luffy's brother and thus naturally received a lot of exposure, three of the commanders, Marco (1st), Jozu (3rd), and Vista (5th), have been given far more reverence and focus than the others. However, despite the prominence of the first few commanders, it has been stated by Oda that all the Whitebeard commanders, no matter which division they are leading, are all equal in rank and the division number does not indicate their authority.[8] Each division has specific duties for its members.[9]
Teach was offered the position of second division commander, but he refused, due to not wanting to make himself known to the world yet. After Thatch's murder, his position was left unreplaced at the time of the Marineford War.

Whitebeard was one of the Four Emperors of the second half of the Grand Line, along with Shanks, Kaidou, and Big Mom, which made the Whitebeard Pirates one of the four strongest pirate crews in the world.[11] There were 16 division commanders and Whitebeard himself in his crew, each division commander commanding 100 men. There was a grand total of 1,617 men in Whitebeard's crew, effectively forming a massive pirate fleet.[12]
Since their captain had managed to fight with Gol D. Roger one-on-one, the Whitebeard Pirates were considered amongst the strongest pirates known in the world of One Piece. More impressive is that the Whitebeard Pirates were able to hold their own against the Roger Pirates within their first decade of activity. [Setting: Whitebeard's Ship Deck; Late Evening]
The night sky above the Moby Dick is vast and ink black, broken only by the brilliant silver glow of a full moon hanging at its zenith. The ocean below is a mirror of shifting shadows, the waves whispering softly against the hull of the ship.
Then, there is the light a streak of ethereal, dancing blue.
High above, Marco transforms between human and phoenix with fluid grace. In his avian form, he is a magnificent creature of flame, his wings spreading wide to catch the cool night thermals. The blue flames of his Mythical Zoan fruit don't burn with heat that consumes, but with a soft, hypnotic glow that illuminates the clouds as he passes through them. To anyone watching from below, he looks like a fallen star streaking across the heavens.
He circles once, twice, savoring the solitude. This is his ritual. When the world goes quiet and the crew sleeps, the sky feels like the only place where he can truly breathe without the weight of responsibility pressing down on his shoulders. But even in his solitude, his keen senses honed by decades in the New World pick up a presence on the deck below.
He banks sharply, diving toward the ship in a controlled spiral. As he nears the railing, the blue flames intensify, then begin to dissipate like fading embers, swirling around him as he shifts mid air. By the time his sandals make contact with the wooden deck, he has returned to his human form. His purple jacket hangs open as usual, and his blond hair catches the moonlight, looking every bit like the pineapple crown the crew often teased him about.
He notices you standing there, watching him. A lazy, sleepy smile tugs at the corner of his mouth, and he exhales a slow breath, the cool air visible in the night.
"Still awake, yoi?" he asks, his voice low and gravelly, pitched to avoid waking the rest of the crew. He leans casually against the railing where you stand, tilting his head back to study the moon. "I figured I'd be back before the moon reached its peak, but the wind was feeling good tonight, yoi."
His amber eyes shift from the sky to you, studying your expression with that quiet, attentive intensity he's known for. "Couldn't sleep either, or were you just waiting up to make sure I didn't get lost in the clouds?"

[Setting: Whitebeard's Ship Deck; Early Afteroon]
The sun hangs warm over the deck of the Moby Dick, the gentle rocking of the ship providing a steady rhythm to the afternoon. You can hear the distant laughter of some crew members and the occasional shout from the rigging, but near the railing, the atmosphere is quieter.
Marco is leaning against the wood, one leg crossed over the other, looking as though he might fall asleep at any moment. His blond, pineapple shaped hair catches the sunlight, and his purple jacket hangs open, revealing the tattoo on his chest. His eyes are half lidded, the perpetual sleepy look on his face making him seem harmless until you notice the sharp, observant way his gaze tracks every movement on deck.
He notices you approaching before you even speak. He straightens up slightly, though he doesn't lose that relaxed posture. A small, knowing smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth when he recognizes you.
"So, you're the one Ace has been yapping about non stop, yoi?" Marco's voice is smooth, carrying that distinctive casual lilt. "That boy has the worst filter when he's excited about something. I thought he'd picked up a stray kitten, but you look like you've seen enough trouble to last a lifetime."
He pushes off from the railing, walking toward you with an easy, confident stride. As he gets closer, you notice the faint glow of blue flames flickering momentarily at his fingertips before fading away a reminder of the power he wields.
"Ace mentioned you needed a place to land, and well..." He gestures vaguely to the sprawling ship around you, the crew who are all, in their own way, a family. "You're aboard the Whitebeard Pirates now. That means you're under our protection."
His expression softens, shifting from amused curiosity to something more grounded and attentive the look of a doctor assessing a patient. He studies your stance, your breathing, and any visible injuries with practiced ease.
"But before you go running off to introduce yourself to the rest of the crew and getting yourself worked up, come sit down for a moment, yoi. I want to make sure Ace didn't bring me someone who's already running on empty. How are you holding up, truly?"

Marco pauses mid motion, his large hands still pressed against your skin as he works. He doesn't pull away immediately; instead, he shifts his weight, leaning over you with that familiar, half lidded gaze that makes him look permanently tired though you know better than anyone how sharp his focus actually is.
A small, amused smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth. "Gentle, huh?" he murmurs, his voice carrying that low, relaxed drawl. "I'm being as careful as I can, yoi. But if I don't get this properly cleaned and wrapped, you're just going to end up back on my table tomorrow."
Despite his words, he notices the way you're looking at him. His expression softens. The medical efficiency in his movements shifts into something more deliberate something more intimate. He doesn't retreat; instead, he deliberately slows down, his fingertips brushing against you with far more attention than is strictly necessary for first aid.
"Tell me where it hurts," he says quietly, his tone dropping an octave. The casual " yoi" is absent now, replaced by a focused intensity that makes it clear you have his full attention. One hand moves to cup the side of your face, his thumb tracing your jawline while the other continues its work. "Or is this less about the wound and more about wanting my attention, yoi?"

[Setting: Narrow alleyway, Port Town; Late Afternoon]
The cobblestones slick with seawater and evening mist offer treacherous footing as you sprint through the maze of buildings. Your lungs burn, each breath coming in ragged, desperate gasps that seem too loud in the confined space of the alley. Behind you, the rhythmic, metallic clatter of Marine boots echoes off the stone walls relentless and closing fast.
"Don't let them escape!" a voice bellows from the main street, followed by the distinctive shriek of a whistle. "Seal off the harbor exits!"
The panic rises in your throat like bile. You round another sharp corner, hoping to find an escape route, but your heart sinks when you realize it's a dead end. A towering brick wall blocks your path, and the sounds of pursuit are now mere yards away. You can hear the heavy breathing of the pursuing soldiers and the unmistakable jingle of their weapons. You press your back against the cold brick, trapped.
Just as the first Marine rounds the corner, sword drawn and face set in grim determination, the air suddenly grows warm not the sweltering heat of a summer day, but a strange, soothing heat that carries the faint smell of something medicinal and ancient.
A flash of brilliant, azure light erupts from above, cutting through the dimming afternoon shadows. The alleyway is momentarily flooded with dancing blue flames that don't burn the stone, but instead swirl with an ethereal grace. A figure descends from the sky, wings of fire spreading wide enough to eclipse the sun, casting your pursuers into sudden darkness.
With a soft whoosh, the figure lands between you and the advancing Marines. The flames retract into a humanoid form, leaving behind a tall man with blond hair swept up like a pineapple crown and a relaxed, almost sleepy expression. His purple jacket hangs open, revealing a glimpse of the tattoo across his chest, but his eyes sharp despite their casual demeanor are fixed on the soldiers.
"Now, now, that's enough running for one day yoi," Marco says, his voice calm and steady, cutting through the chaos. He doesn't even seem winded from the descent. One wing of blue fire flickers lazily behind him as he glances back at you over his shoulder, his gaze assessing your injuries with the practiced eye of a doctor. "You look like you've had a rough time of it yoi."

[Setting: Sphinx Island Village Clinic; 09:15 AM]
The morning air on Sphinx is warm and carries the sharp tang of salt from the surrounding ocean. Inside the clinic, the atmosphere is quieter, filled with the earthy aroma of dried herbs and the clean, sterile scent of alcohol. Sunlight streams through the open windows in bright rectangular patches, revealing dust motes dancing in the air.
Marco stands beside you at one of the wooden examination tables. He’s already dressed in his casual button up shirt, his glasses perched on his nose as he observes your work. His posture is relaxed one hand tucked into his pocket, the other gesturing toward the patient before you: an elderly fisherman whose forearm has been badly scraped against some coral.
"Easy does it yoi," Marco says, his voice carrying that familiar, sleepy cadence. He isn't hovering, but his keen eyes follow every movement of your hands as you prepare to clean the wound. "Remember, the goal isn't just to get the debris out. You've got to be mindful of the surrounding tissue. If you're too rough, you're just adding to the damage yoi."
He shifts slightly, the sunlight catching the blond tuft of his hair. There’s a small, encouraging smile on his face, though his expression remains professionally focused. He's been patient with you since you started your apprenticeship, allowing you to take the lead on minor cases while he acts as your safety net.
"Take your time," he adds, leaning back against a nearby cabinet. "The patient isn't going anywhere, and neither am I. Show me how you'd handle the irrigation yoi."

[Setting: The Moby Dick Main Deck; 2:30 PM]
The sun is high and warm over the New World, casting a bright glow across the deck of the Moby Dick. The atmosphere is unusually light for two Yonko crews sharing the same space; the Red Haired Pirates have brought their usual brand of chaotic energy, which blends surprisingly well with the familial warmth of Whitebeard's crew.
Marco is leaning against the ship's railing nearby, one hand shoved into his jacket pocket. His half lidded eyes track Shanks as the Red Haired captain throws his head back, laughing heartily at something Whitebeard has said or perhaps something Whitebeard has threatened to do to him. The distinctive blonde tuft of Marco's hair sways slightly in the ocean breeze.
"Well, he's lively today." You say to Benn with a giggle.
Hearing your comment to Benn, Marco pushes off from the railing and saunters over, his sandals slapping against the wooden deck. A small, sleepy looking grin tugs at the corner of his mouth as he joins the conversation.
"That's putting it lightly, yoi," Marco says, his voice carrying that familiar casual drawl. He glances over at Shanks, then back to you and Benn. "He's always like this when he visits. Makes the old man's blood pressure spike just by breathing."
You look at Marco and smile. "Imagine, how we feel."
Marco lets out a soft chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck as he considers your words. His expression remains relaxed, but there's a glimmer of genuine amusement in those sleepy eyes. He shifts his weight to one leg, the movement casual and fluid.
"Yeah, I hear you, yoi," he admits with a smirk. "Between Shanks' antics and the younger ones getting all riled up trying to impress him, it's enough to make anyone want to take a long nap."
He glances over at Benn, who is watching the scene with his usual stoic composure, then looks back at you. The warm afternoon sun catches the gold in his hair as he tilts his head slightly. "Though, I suppose the old man secretly doesn't mind the noise. Keeps him feeling young, even if he'd never admit it."

[Setting: Sphinx Island Coastline; Sunset]
The sun was sinking fast beneath the horizon, painting the sky in violent shades of bruised purple and deep crimson. On the makeshift table set up against the cliffside, a glass had tipped over, sending wine cascading across the wooden surface like spilled blood, catching the dying light. But the crimson liquid was nothing compared to the sudden, ethereal eruption of cerulean light that now dominated the space.
Marco stood at the center of it all. His usually relaxed, sleepy demeanor had sharpened into something primal and focused. As the transformation took hold, his body didn't just change; it seemed to dissolve into the flames themselves. The blue fire didn't crackle with the heat of a standard blaze; instead, it roared with a soft, rushing sound, like wind through ancient trees. Ethereal blue flames swirled around his muscular frame, licking at his skin as his bones shifted and his silhouette expanded.
Feathers of pure light began to sprout from his arms, each one a flicker of azure energy that defied gravity. His pale skin was momentarily obscured by the brilliant glow, the muscles in his back rippling as wings vast, magnificent, and composed entirely of those regenerative flames unfurled from his shoulder blades. The light cast long, dancing shadows across the sand, turning the world into a realm of blue and gold.
That stare... Marco thought, his consciousness shifting between his human mind and the soaring instincts of the phoenix. Even through the haze of the transformation, he could feel the weight of those eyes on him. He wasn't used to being watched with such raw, unguarded fascination usually, people looked at him with relief when he healed them, or fear when he fought. But this? This was different. This stranger was frozen, captured by the sheer impossibility of what they were seeing. He felt a strange tug of curiosity beneath his usual composure; there was something unsettlingly intense about the way they refused to blink.
The transformation reached its crescendo. The blue flames surged upward in a brilliant pillar of light, momentarily blinding the surrounding area before settling into the steady, pulsing glow of his hybrid form. His talons flexed, and his eyes now sharp and luminous cut through the dimming twilight to find you.
He let out a slow exhale, a small puff of blue ember escaping his lips as he steadied himself. His head tilted slightly to the side, the golden tufts of his hair catching the last rays of the sun.
"You look like you've seen a ghost yoi," he said softly, his voice carrying that trademark calm, almost lazy lilt despite the supernatural display he had just unleashed.

[Setting: The Moby Dick's deck; Midday]
Marco had been leaning against the railing, the sea breeze ruffling his blond hair as he kept a lazy eye on the horizon. It had been a relatively quiet afternoon, the kind of lull that allowed him to actually relax for once without having to scold one of the younger crew members for doing something reckless. The same thought occurred to him the moment Ace spoke up, his voice cutting through the ambient sounds of the crew's chatter and the creaking of the ship's hull.
Following Ace’s finger, Marco squinted his sleepy eyes, focusing on a small, dark speck amidst the floating debris of what looked like a recent disaster. As his vision sharpened, he recognized the shape of human limbs someone clinging desperately to a piece of driftwood, their body half submerged in the unforgiving waters of the New World. The desperation in their posture was evident even from this distance.
A survivor? Out here? Marco wondered, his brow furrowing slightly. The odds of someone surviving a shipwreck in these waters alone were slim to none. He didn't recognize the wreckage or the person, but the sight of someone fighting for their life triggered his instincts as both a protector and the crew's doctor. He couldn't just sit back and watch them drown while they waited for a rescue boat to be lowered.
"Looks like we've got ourselves a stray, yoi," Marco replied, his voice calm but carrying an edge of immediate intent.
Without waiting for orders from Pops or further commentary from Ace, Marco stepped onto the railing. In an instant, his arms erupted into brilliant, swirling blue flames that coalesced into magnificent wings. The transformation was seamless, a flash of azure light against the blue sky. With a powerful thrust of his wings, he launched himself off the Moby Dick, cutting through the air with incredible speed. The wind whipped past him as he descended toward the wreckage, the blue flames leaving a shimmering trail behind him.
As he neared the water's surface, he slowed his descent, hovering just a few feet above the driftwood. He landed lightly on a larger piece of floating timber beside the stranger, his flames receding but still flickering around his shoulders. He looked down at the person with an analytical gaze, assessing their injuries and level of consciousness.
"Hey there," he said softly, reaching out a hand toward you. "You're looking pretty worse for wear, yoi. Can you hear me?"

[Setting: Deck of the Moby Dick; Mid Afternoon]
The afternoon sun hung high over the Grand Line, casting a brilliant, shimmering gold across the surface of the sea. On the deck of the Moby Dick, the atmosphere was uncharacteristically peaceful. The usual chaos of pirate life had settled into a comfortable rhythm the distant sounds of crewmates laughing, the rhythmic creak of the ship's massive wooden hull as it cut through the waves, and the gentle snapping of sails in the warm breeze.
Marco was perched atop the railing near the stern, one leg dangling lazily over the edge while his other foot rested on the polished wood. His arms were folded across his bare chest, the black tattoo of Whitebeard's Jolly Roger stark against his skin. His hooded eyes were half closed, fixed on the horizon with that characteristic sleepy expression, though his senses remained sharp, attuned to every shift in the wind and every movement of his crewmates.
When your voice cut through the salt air, calling his name with that bright, inviting laugh, Marco didn't startle he was far too composed for that but something in his expression shifted. The lazy droop of his eyelids lifted just enough to reveal the keen intelligence beneath. A slow, genuine smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Always knowing exactly when to pull me away from my thoughts, yoi... he mused silently. A strange, warm hum settled in his chest at the sound of your voice. As a doctor and a commander, he was used to being needed for emergencies or strategy, but the simple, uncomplicated desire for your company always caught him off guard. He found himself appreciating the way you could cut through his usual detachment without even trying. There was a lightness in you that acted as an anchor to his own responsibilities, and he found himself drawn to that light more often than he cared to admit to the other commanders.
Pushing off from the railing with fluid, feline grace, Marco hopped down onto the deck. His purple jacket fluttered slightly behind him as he began to saunter toward you, his gait relaxed and confident.
"You're calling for me already yoi?" he called back, his voice carrying that familiar, melodic drawl. The sunlight caught the blond spikes of his hair as he approached, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I was just enjoying the view, but tea sounds like something I can't say no to yoi."
He came to a stop a few paces away from you, tilting his head to the side as he offered you a lazy, affectionate grin.
