He doesn't even mean to it kind of just happens. It's in his nature. He engaged Blackbeard in the "Payback War," but suffered a crushing defeat that led to the disbanding of the crew.Wano Country Arc: Marco arrived as a major ally to Monkey D. Luffy, singlehandedly stalling the powerful Yonko commanders King and Queen, allowing the Straw Hats to push forward in the raid on Onigashima. Polo Marco,[11] better known as Marco the Phoenix,[6][12] is the former 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.[2] The son of Whitebeard's partner Polo Gram, Marco started out as an apprentice on the crew following his father's death,[4] and over the next three decades came to be Whitebeard's closest confidant and right-hand man. Polo Marco,[11] better known as Marco the Phoenix,[6][12] is the former 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.[2] The son of Whitebeard's partner Polo Gram, Marco started out as an apprentice on the crew following his father's death,[4] and over the next three decades came to be Whitebeard's closest confidant and right-hand man.[13] After his captain's death during the Summit War of Marineford, Marco assumed leadership of the Whitebeard Pirates until the crew's disbandment following the Payback War.[14]
In the year since the disbandment, Marco worked as a doctor in Whitebeard's home village on Sphinx;[3] following the Raid on Onigashima, during which Marco acted as an ally to the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance, Marco permanently retired from piracy, returning to his duties as a doctor on Sphinx.[15] Marco is a major ally during the Marineford and Wano Country Arcs. Appearance Marco is a tall, lean, muscular, man with a rather sleepy look on his face and some stubble around his chin. He has short blond hair sticking in the top of his head similar to a pineapple's crown and he wears an open purple jacket and a light blue sash adorned with an elaborate golden-yellow belt around his waist. He has dark gray knee-long pants and black sandals, and on his left leg he wears what appears to be some sort of straw decoration, in a similar fashion to Arlong. While his chest was bare in his initial appearance, in his subsequent appearances he has the cross and crescent moon mustache symbol that resembles a black silhouette of Whitebeard's Jolly Roger tattooed on it.[16] Robin and Luffy believe that Marco's head looks like a pineapple. [14]
Initially in the anime, Marco was given a generic crew member look of a black-haired man with pale skin and different clothes.[1] When he later became more formally recognized in the story, his appearance was changed to what is depicted in the manga, along with his light purple jacket, his black pants and his dark red tattoo.[17] Later, starting with Opening 13 "One Day", he was given another color scheme. Once again, his jacket was recolored in a much brighter purple, his pants were made dark blue, his tattoo blue and his skin a little brighter. Marco was a member of the Whitebeard Pirates twenty-two years ago as well. Even at the age of 23, his appearance, for the most part, resembles his present self.[18]
As a kid, Marco's signature tuft of hair was curlier. He sported a vertically striped shirt, with black pants, and no shoes. As a teenager, his appearance was not much different.[4]
Personality Marco is generally calm and level-headed in the face of adversity or challenge; the only strong emotional moments he has shown so far were directly related to Whitebeard's health (after he was stabbed in the torso by his own subordinate Squard and after his death).[20] When Ace and Whitebeard were killed, Marco and the rest of the Whitebeard Pirates were in tears.[21]
In fact, seeing his captain, Whitebeard, get stabbed through the chest by a deceived Squard was enough for Marco to lose his usually unshakable cool-headedness that he immediately flew over to where they were to smash Squard's head against the Moby Dick's figurehead.[20]
He also demonstrates himself to be acute at detecting power, able to quickly notice the presence of Red-Haired Shanks' Supreme King Haki before anyone else aboard the Moby Dick[2] as well as the underlying potential of Monkey D. Luffy.[22] He clearly cares for his crew, as he warned them to stay back from Shanks' Haki.[2]
Having been a member of the Whitebeard Pirates for at least thirty years, Marco has an extremely high degree of experience with exposure and combat inside the treacherous New World. After Whitebeard and Portgas D. Ace's deaths at Marineford, Marco took the position of commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, highlighting his level of intelligence and suitability in taking up a commanding position. He appears to be somewhat playful, pretending to be hurt from Admiral Kizaru's attack with obvious sarcasm, though he can also quickly become serious. Marco seems to appreciate raw talent, even if it comes from someone whom he had never met before (i.e., Luffy). Because of this and based on the fact that Luffy intercepted Crocodile's attack on Whitebeard, Marco immediately took a liking to him.[22]
When he was an apprentice, he appeared to be a cheerful person. He was also encouraging as he cheered on Oden when he came close to passing Whitebeard's test to join the crew. He showed a playful side when he noticed Oden being close to Toki. In general, Marco always conducts himself in a level-headed, polite, and dignified manner. He is very kind and selfless, serving as the doctor on Sphinx to help and protect the villagers and aiding the Straw Hats heavily several times for no other reason than supporting their goals. Like some other characters, Marco has a very particular speech habit, which is a simple tic without meaning, ending his sentences with "-yoi" (~よい?): e.g., "arigatō-yoi" (ありがとうよい?, "thanks-yoi") or "mattero-yoi" (待ってろよい?, "wait-yoi"). Marco the Phoenix from One Piece is 45 years old (post-timeskip) and stands 6'8" tall.Marco's exact physical stats and character details include:Birthdate: October 5Role: Former 1st Division Commander and doctor of the Whitebeard PiratesDevil Fruit: Mythical Zoan Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix, allowing him to transform and regenerate from almost any injury using his blue flames. Marco served as Whitebeard’s right-hand man and 1st Division Commander. He had a deeply loyal, father-son bond with him. Having started as an apprentice, Marco deeply understood Whitebeard's desire for a family, acting as his closest confidant and eventually leading the crew after Whitebeard's tragic death at Marineford. Core Dynamics of Their Relationship Father and Son: Whitebeard viewed his crew as his true family. Marco, along with the other commanders, affectionately called him "Pops" and would fiercely defend him to the end. Second-in-Command: As the First Division Commander, Marco was Whitebeard's most trusted subordinate. During tense situations, he acted as a voice of reason and ensured Whitebeard's will was carried out. Deep Mutual Respect: Whitebeard had absolute faith in Marco's abilities, entrusting him with vital duties, such as keeping an eye on younger, hotheaded crewmates like Portgas D. Ace. The correct assessment of Marco the Phoenix's personality when romantically or deeply interested in someone aligns with his established traits in One Piece: he is protective, subtly playful, grounded, and intensely loyal.Because of his mature demeanor and history as a caretaker, his approach to affection is distinct from louder, more chaotic characters.Key behavioral traitsCasual affection: He expresses interest through relaxed, affectionate teasing and his signature deadpan humor. He frequently drops his habitual "-yoi" sentence suffix in a softer, more intimate manner when speaking directly to someone he cares about.Protective instinct: His ultimate priority is safety. He uses his blue flames of rebirth not just to heal physical wounds, but to provide a literal and emotional shield for the person he loves.Grounded stability: He acts as a calm anchor. Marco is not prone to dramatic, flustered outbursts; instead, he offers steady, reliable support during chaotic situations.Attentive listening: He pays close attention to small details, remembering personal preferences, worries, or habits, and quietly accommodates them without demanding recognition.Romantic dynamicThe caregiver: He naturally shifts into a protective, nurturing role, checking on your well-being and ensuring you are not overexerting yourself.Emotional depth: Beneath his laid-back exterior lies a deep capacity for devotion, shaped by his fierce loyalty to Whitebeard and his crew. Once committed, his allegiance is absolute. The correct assessment of Marco the Phoenix's personality toward a fellow Whitebeard Pirate is that he acts as a deeply devoted, authoritative, yet fiercely protective older brother. As the first-division commander and Whitebeard’s right-hand man, Marco views every single crew member as part of his literal family.Brotherly and leadership dynamicsThe older brother: He treats crewmates with a mix of casual fondness and strict responsibility. He will teasingly mock you for reckless mistakes but is the first to patch you up afterward.Casual authority: While relaxed and approachable, he commands absolute respect. When the crew faces danger, his laid-back demeanor vanishes, replaced by a sharp, commanding leadership style.Protective shield: He takes Whitebeard’s "protect your brothers" philosophy to heart. Marco will throw himself directly into enemy fire or use his blue phoenix flames to absorb damage for a crewmate without hesitation.Medical caretaker: As the crew's doctor, his affection is often practical. He will aggressively monitor your health, scold you for ignoring medical advice, and force you to rest when injured.Interactions within the crewIn casual times: He is easygoing, drinking with the crew, offering his trademark relaxed grin, and punctuating his sentences with a soft "-yoi. Aside from plants commonly seen in real life, One Piece world has many unique plant and fungi species that appear on different islands.

Main article: Kuuigosu Kuuigosu is a buoyant type of wood that is often used by coated ships. It first was utilized at Rain Dinners when Galdino floated on a plank to prevent from drowning.[1] It was first shown when the Straw Hat Pirates descended to Fish-Man Island.[2]
Arabasta Saga
Sakura (桜 or 櫻, Sakura?) (Hiragana: さくら; Katakana: サクラ) are ornamental cherry trees and with pink blossoms.
In One Piece, the sakura plays an important part mostly in the Drum Island Arc, where in Chopper's past, Dr. Hiriluk tried to make sakura bloom in the snow.[3] It eventually did, although he did not live to see it happen.[4]
Sakura is also found on Momoiro Island[5] and Merveille,[6] as well as on the island where Whitebeard and Roger discussed the Will of D. before the latter's death.[7]
In Japan, as sakura bloom in late March to early April, the exact period when a fiscal or school year ends and the next begins, sakura are associated with beginnings and endings. The same can be seen in One Piece on the scenes above mentioned, with the sakura representing the renamed Sakura Kingdom's new beginning and symbolizing Roger's life coming to an end. Japanese also appreciate sakura as they bloom without fail even after harsh winters, showing that anyone can rise after a fall, which can also be seen in One Piece through Dr. Hiriluk's faith that blooming sakura would save the country.
Amiudake
The Amiudake (アミウダケ, Amiudake?) is a lethal species of mushroom that grows in the Sakura Kingdom (originally Drum Kingdom). Anyone who ingests the fungus will die an hour after consumption. One is found by Chopper, who innocently assumed it was a "miracle cure" mushroom because of a misinterpretation about the Skull and Crossbones in a medical book in comparison to a Jolly Roger from Dr. Hiriluk, to cure his fatal disease. Dr. Hiriluk, who knew the mushroom was poisonous, made a soup out of the mushroom in his loving gratitude for his surrogate son, and then chose to commit suicide, rather than letting the poisonous mushroom Chopper gave him finish him off.
Mescal Cactus
Mescal Cactus (メスカルサボテン, Mesukaru Saboten?)[8] is a very small round cactus that causes hallucinations. It grows in the Sandora Desert.
It first appeared in Chapter 162 and Episode 98 when Luffy ate one instead of Sandora Lizard meat, without thinking about it. After eating it, Luffy thought he was seeing a tsunami and nearly attacked his crew. Fortunately, Chopper knew about the cactus and its effects and with his quick thinking, tranquilized Luffy. The effect had worn off by the time Luffy woke up.
It is called "Crazy Cactus" in the VIZ Media localization, Mezcal Cactus in the Funimation localization, and Wacky Cacti in the 4Kids Entertainment localization.
Some species of cactus have a psychoactive chemical within them called mescaline. This substance causes confusion of the senses (although not true hallucinations). This is most likely the origin of the mescal cactus's name.
Thousand-Year Trees (千年木, Sen'nen Boku?) are, according to Rice Rice, trees that grow on Eight Nine Island. He also proclaims that that's where the Thousand-Year Paper is made. It also lives for a thousand years, and that's where it got its name.[9]
Main article: Giant Jack Giant Jack is a giant beanstalk in the center of Upper Yard. Going through the center of the once-great city of Shandora, Giant Jack towers over all of Skypiea. God's Shrine rests upon an island cloud that the Giant Jack goes through, but first there is still a deserted cloud where Zoro, Wyper, and Ohm have their showdown.[10] The Golden Belfry was knocked up by Giant Jack and resides on a cloud nearby.[11]
Kona Tree
Kona Tree (コナの木, Kona no Ki?) is a type of tree found on Jaya and other areas.[12]
Kona Trees are tall and possess thin trunks and leafy branches.[12]
Within the bark of this tree is a substance known as Conine (コニーネ, Konīne?). More than 400 years ago, a South Blue botanist discovered that this substance could be used as an antidote to cure the Tree Fever disease.[13]
On Jaya, Mont Blanc Noland was able to use the Conine from a local Kona Tree to to treat the infected Shandia people.[14]
Oda confirmed in SBS Volume 32 that "Conine" and "Kona Tree" are inspired by Quinine (キニーネ, Kinīne?) found in the bark of Cinchona (キナの木, Kina no Ki?) genus of plants, which is used to treat diseases such as malaria and babesiosis. He altered the name and mixed in fantasy elements due to not wanting to directly reference serious real-world diseases.[15]
Interestingly, a chemical known as Conine does in fact exist; an alternate spelling for the poisonous alkaloid in Conium maculatum, also known as poison hemlock.
Tree of Knowledge
Main article: Tree of Knowledge The Tree of Knowledge was a gigantic 5,000-year-old tree located on the island of Ohara which served as a library and a hub for archaeologists from around the world.[16] It was destroyed by the World Government via a Buster Call.
Summit War Saga Yarukiman Mangrove The Yarukiman Mangrove (ヤルキマン・マングローブ, Yarukiman Mangurōbu?) are giant striped trees that have extremely long roots that reach all the way to the bottom of the sea, 10,000 meters down.[17] Seventy-nine of these trees make up the entire Sabaody Archipelago; so far, this is the only place they are known to grow.[18] They are called the "Hustle Muscle Mangrove" in the Funimation adaptations.
Each tree of the Yarukiman Mangrove is capable of producing a special tree sap resin. This resin is filled with air when the trees "breathe out" through cellular respiration and photosynthesis. This results in the resin forming bubbles that float through the air.[18] The resin bubbles are solid enough that someone can jump on them without popping them, however they are also completely permeable, allowing a person to ride in or store things inside of them without the bubble popping when they pass through.
These bubbles can only exist in and around the Archipelago's atmosphere or underwater. When they are removed from their native environment, they will pop immediately. Due to the fact that this knowledge is not widely known outside Sabaody, many of the local shop keepers in the archipelago often sell bubble-based merchandise to unsuspecting tourists who do not know that these products will pop outside the archipelago.[19]
The World Nobles use such bubbles as air helmets during their visit in the Archipelago, in order to protect themselves from "breathing the same air as commoners", while also taking advantage of the bubble's permeable nature, such as by eating ice cream through it, something that couldn’t be done through a regular helmet.[20]
The resin is also used for Coating ships, allowing them to submerse to incredible depths and move freely under water.[21] This process is necessary for ships attempting to go to Fish-Man Island.[22]
The tree's name is a pun on the Japanese phrase, "Yaru Ki Manman", which means "to be pumped up" or "motivated".
Contrary to regular mangroves whose roots are above or below the sea level depending on the tides, the top of the Yarukiman Mangrove's roots are never underwater.

Luffy covered in Body Mushrooms. Luffy covered in Body Mushrooms.
Body Mushroom (カラダカラキノコガハエルダケ, Karada kara kinoko ga haeru dake?, literally meaning "Mushrooms Growing from the Body Shroom") VIZ: "Body Parasite Mushroom" is a species of mushroom that grows on Amazon Lily.
If a person eats the mushroom, many mushrooms will start growing on their body which can be fatal. To cure them, one has to pull the mushrooms out of the person, followed by the area being burned to destroy the roots.
Luffy ate one thinking it was Laughing Mushroom, but he was soon unconscious and covered in mushrooms so the Kujas pulled them out and burned him to remove the mushrooms.[23]
It is called the Body Parasite Mushroom in the Viz localization and the Parasite Mushroom in the Funimation subs.
The medical treatment of "burning" the mushroom to get it off is indeed a natural cure for several biological diseases that grow on the skin. However, this is normally done with acids rather than with fire as the Kuja used, though in some cultures burning the skin with fire was indeed used as a cure for such diseases.
This may be a reference to Cordyceps, a genus of parasitic fungi that kills insects by growing out of their bodies.
Laughing Mushroom
The Laughing Mushroom (ワライダケ, Warai-dake?) is a mushroom that induces the consumer to laugh happily out loud. It is perfect for those who are depressed and wish for a good time.
Anger Mushroom The Anger Mushroom is a mushroom that causes the consumer bouts of rage. An effective counter to this effect is eating a Laughing Mushroom.
Crying Mushroom The Crying Mushroom (ナキダケ, Naki-dake?) is a mushroom that causes the consumer bouts of weeping. An effective counter to this effect is eating a Laughing Mushroom.[24]
Stomach Baron
Stomach Baron (ストマックバロン, Sutomakku Baron?) is a species of giant carnivorous seaborne plants that form the chains of "islands" in Boin Archipelago. Due to their large size and having forests growing on their body, the Barons are often mistaken as islands.[25]
The forests have "plants" that are made of a variety of highly nutritional and delicious food in the middle of the island (which is actually the "mouth" of the Barons) luring prey (including sea kings) to venture there before the Barons consume them.[26]
The concept of the Stomach Baron is very similar to the Gourmetica insularis described in the 1999 novel "Die 13½ Leben des Käpt’n Blaubär“ (キャプテン・ブルーベアの13と1/2の人生, Kyaputen burūbea no 13 to 1/2 no jinsei?) by German author Walter Moers, which has been translated into Japanese by Kyōko Hirano.[27]
Weather Ball Weather Ball (天候ウェザーボール, Wezā Bōru?) is the most important invention on Weatheria. They grow in Weather Patches (天候畑, Tenkō Hata?) and have a similar appearance to snow globes, with what appears to be various forms of weather inside.[28][29]
Nami stole some of these from Weatheria, and later learned how to use them and turn them into weapons. According to Haredas, this is particularly dangerous, as they are capable of causing chaos around the world.[29]
The Weather Balls can also be used to store little pieces of clouds in them. When a few Weather Balls with clouds are combined, a big cloud is formed. The cloud can also shoot lightning. Nami used such a feature to attack the Fake Straw Hat Crew, launching a miniature lightning storm to electrocute them.[30] As indicated by her studies under Haredas, she successfully turned them into a weapon, incorporating them into the Sorcery Clima-Tact.
Weather Balls first appeared in Chapter 592 and Episode 506, but the details were not made clear until Haredas explained them to Nami during her two years of study.[28]

Pop Greens
Main article: Pop Green Pop Green are the seeds of hostile plants found in the forest of "Greenstone" on Boin Archipelago. They can grow from seeds to full-sized plants in moments.[31]
Sunlight Tree Eve lighting up Fish-Man Island.
Main article: Sunlight Tree Eve Sunlight Tree Eve (陽樹イブ, Yōju Ibu?) is a colossal tree that absorbs sunlight and transfers it to its roots that also supply air to the ocean floor through respiration.[32]
Elegant Sunflower
Elegant Sunflowers (エレガントサンフラワー, Ereganto Sanfurawā?)[33] are luminescent sunflowers, which have seen in Dressrosa. The flowers produce a bright yellow glow that illuminates their surroundings.[33] They first appear in Chapter 738 and Episode 671.
These flowers are used to illuminate the interior of the SMILE Factory and to provide light for the trees growing inside the building. The flowers are grown upside down in the middle of the dome of the roof, having the flowers facing towards the trees.[33]
Whole Cake Island Saga Whale The Whale (クジラ, Kujira?), as its name indicates, is a gigantic, whale-shaped tree and a major landmark in the Mokomo Dukedom. It secretly houses one of the Road Poneglyphs necessary to reach Laugh Tale.[34]
Kingbaum.
The Soru Soru no Mi is capable of infusing souls into plants, as such, there are several plant-based Homies living around Totto Land. A particular example is the Whole Cake Island's Seducing Woods, a forest area that includes many tree and flower homies and was itself ruled by Kingbaum, a giant tree homie.
Wano Country Saga Evil-Purging Herb The Evil-Purging Herb (邪含草, Jagansō?) is a medicinal herb located in Wano Country that is capable of counteracting ingested poison to an extent. Tsurujo has access to those herbs for tea-brewing and provided some for Tama following her falling ill from drinking poisoned water from a river.[35]
Elbaph's Treasure Tree Adam.
Main article: Treasure Tree Adam Treasure Tree Adam (宝樹アダム, Hōju Adamu?) is a mythical tree that sustains Elbaph's Warland Kingdom, where the famed warrior giants live.
Its wood is considered the strongest, highest-quality wood in the world. Its immense rarity makes it highly valuable, being considered a great treasure. Occasionally, the wood is sold on the black market, at a very high price given its value. Franky managed to purchase some for Beli200,000,000.[36] It is called "Jewel Tree Adam" in the English localization.
Yggdrasil.
Yggdrasil is a massive tree located in the Land of Gods. It is based on the Yggdrasil of Norse mythology.[37]
Main article: Mori Mori no Mi The Mori Mori no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows the users to create, control, and transform into plant life. It was eaten by Aramaki, better known as Admiral Ryokugyu.
Main article: Mosa Mosa no Mi The Mosa Mosa no Mi is a non-canon Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows users to control the growth rate of plants and manipulate them. It first appeared in One Piece Film: Z and was eaten by Binz.
Main article: Noko Noko no Mi The Noko Noko no Mi is a non-canon Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to create and control poisonous mushroom spores. It first appeared in Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura and was eaten by Musshuru.
Lily Carnation was a carnivorous plant that developed a symbiotic relationship with Omatsuri. Despite its normal, harmless looking form, it is a grotesque, vicious creature in reality, using Omatsuri and plant puppets of his deceased crew to lure in and feast on unknowing pirates. It first appeared in Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.
Daft Green (ダフトグリーン, Dafuto Gurīn?) is a species of a tree that exists in the flying archipelago, Merveille. It first appeared in One Piece Film: Strong World.[38]
This tree releases toxic spores that can kill both animals and people, although animals can notice it by its strong smell before getting infected. After being infected, the person starts to develop green skin spots. After some time, the spores spread through the victim's body (it happens faster if the victim keeps inhaling them) until it reaches the heart, causing the victim to die. The only discovered cure for Daft Green is a species of flower called IQ that exists in Merveille as well. Both Xiao's grandmother and Nami were infected by its spores.
When arranged well, the daft green can serve as protective barrier. It was seen surrounding Shiki's headquarters and a village where Xiao resides, enabling them to live peacefully without being disturbed by the animals that roam freely on Merveille.
Daft Green Infobox A Daft Green tree. Daft green Nami infected with the tree's toxic spores. On Rusukaina, there is a type of tree that very much resembles the Daft Green trees. Oda explained in an SBS that even though the trees are related, they are not exactly the same species, and no poisonous spores are emitted from the Rusukaina tree.[39]
Both the Daft Green trees and the trees found on Rusukaina heavily resemble members of the Adansonia genus of trees, commonly known as baobab trees.
The name of the cure for the infection, "IQ", referring to a person's level of intelligence. "Daft" can be used to describe someone who is foolish.
A green tinge in the skin is sometimes associated with nausea and sickness. A physically ill person is said to look "green around the gills".
An IQ plant.
IQ (I.Q.アイキュー, Ai Kyū?) is a rare species of flower only known in the flying archipelago, Merveille. It first appeared in One Piece Film: Strong World. Its presence makes the animals develop their brains and evolve depending on the environment. This plant was later used by Dr. Indigo to create the SIQ, a dangerous version of this flower, evolving the animals into often larger and even more dangerous animals.[40] IQ is also the only cure to the poisonous spores released by the Daft Green plant.
"I.Q." is the abbreviation for "intelligence quotient", a standardized measurement of one's intelligence. The flower's ability to develop one's brains and evolution is a reference to this.
The Drowsy Mushroom (へたれダケ, Hetare-dake?) is a type of mushroom that grows on Kinoko Island and was discovered very recently. Anyone who eats it will briefly lose consciousness. When they come to, they will not have any motivation to do anything. As they are not actually poisonous, even those with high poison resistance (like Luffy) will fall victim to this effect. Komei tricked members of the Straw Hats and Foxy Pirates into eating them during the Davy Back Fight so he could capture them.[41]
The Rebound Mushroom (もどるダケ, Modoru-dake?) is a type of mushroom which also grows on Kinoko Island. It will return anyone who eats it to their former state, making it the only antidote to the Drowsy Mushroom. Chopper discovered it growing on the skin of Kinoconda, an animal native to Kinoko Island.[41]
The Wake-shroom (ネズキノコ, Nezukinoko?) are poisonous mushrooms that allow people to stay awake for as long as a person eats them, even if they do activities that would normally completely drain their stamina. However, should they stop consuming it, they would die due to its poisonous contents. The mushroom also affects one's mentality and judgment and emotional state, causing them to act irrationally, or even make insane decisions. Uta continuously consumed these mushrooms in order to counteract her Uta Uta no Mi's stamina draining properties and keep her power active for as long as possible and then pass away into her Uta world.[42] The mushroom's mouse-like design is a pun on 寝ず (nezu, meaning "sleepless") and 鼠 (nezumi, meaning "mouse, rat").
Amanita Truffle (ベニテング・トリュフ, Benitengu Toryufu?) is a type of truffle that grows in the Kinoko Islands in the East Blue. Known as the "King of Mushrooms" (キノコの王, Kinoko no Ō?), they are renowned for their incredible flavor. However, they are also extremely rare, with even the Baratie staff being unable to finding any.[43]
Emperor Carrot The Emperor Carrot (皇帝ニンジン, Kōtei Ninjin?) is an herb that grows on Royal Sun Island. It is one of the ingredients in making Ryuumonkou. When taken alone, it has incredible healing properties, and is supposedly capable of healing all illnesses and wounds; when taken by Win and Rose, it apparently brought them back from near death.[44]
Dokudamin The Dokudamin (ドクダミン, Dokudamin?) is an herb that grows in Great Ground's forests, where it used by the local wildlife to make nests. It is one of the ingredients in making Ryuumonkou.
Doriano Doriano (ドリアーノ, Doriāno?) is an herb that grows on Festa Circle, where it grows in the king's garden. It is one of the ingredients in making Ryuumonkou.
Surprised Mushroom The Surprised Mushroom (びっくりキノコ, Bikkuri kinoko?) is a mushroom species that appears in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. It first takes a rather small appearance, but when touched, it expands quickly to a larger size, causing whatever touched it to be repelled away. In the game, it is used to jump on and launch players up to high places. Its color and shape vary between blue with white spots and a rounded appearance, and orangish-brown with a curvier appearance, depending on the zone in which it is found.
Blue Surprised Mushroom A blue Surprised Mushroom. Brown Surprised Mushroom A brown Surprised Mushroom.
The Cannibal Flower (人食い花, Hitokuibana?) is a carnivorous plant species that appears in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. It is almost as large as a person and has two jaw-like leaves with spines along the edges. It hides underneath the ground to close upward on anything that touches it, with only the spines visible beneath the dirt. They are resistant to physical damage and sharp objects like swords. [Setting: Moby Dick Deck; Mid Afternoon]
The sun hangs high over the Grand Line, casting a warm, golden glow across the wooden planks of the Moby Dick. The salt tinged breeze ruffles Marco's blond hair, which sticks up in its usual pineapple like crown. He is currently in a state of complete relaxation, leaning against the ship's railing. Without even realizing it, his spine has curved into a pronounced C shape, his shoulders rounded and his chin tucked low a perfect, mirror image of Portgas D. Ace's infamous, lazy slouch. His purple jacket hangs open, revealing his bare chest and the tattoo over his heart. A thin trail of blond hair his happy trail traces a path from his navel down beneath the waistband of his light blue sash.
Marco is half listening to the distant chaos of the crew when he hears the giggling. He turns his sleepy gaze toward you, his hooded eyes blinking slowly. The sound of your laughter sends a pleasant shiver through him; he can't help but feel a surge of affection whenever you're amused. He wants to keep you in this good mood, to keep that smile on your face as long as possible.
"If you keep doing that you'll have his bad posture Marco." You tease.
When your teasing words hit him pointing out that he's picking up Ace's terrible posture Marco freezes. He becomes acutely aware of the way his weight is distributed, the exact angle of his slouch, and the way his arms are draped lazily. He straightens up slowly, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand while a faint flush creeps onto his cheeks.
"Bad posture, yoi? I don't know what you're talking about," he murmurs, though his voice lacks its usual conviction. The corner of his mouth twitches upward into a reluctant grin. He's caught red handed, and he knows it.
A few feet away, Ace who is sitting cross legged on a crate, slouching in the exact same manner stops mid bite of a piece of meat. He blinks, looking from you to Marco, then down at himself. His face splits into a wide, mischievous grin.
"Oi! Marco's turning into me!" Ace crows, his laughter loud and unrestrained as he points a greasy finger at the First Division Commander. "Look at him! He's got the slouch and everything! You're welcome for the style upgrade, Marco!"
From across the deck, Thatch abandons a conversation with another crew member and practically skips over, his hands dramatically splayed. "Wait, wait! Let me see!" Thatch gasps, circling Marco like a predator. "This is magnificent! The responsible, composed First Mate has finally cracked under the influence of Ace's laziness. We have to document this!" Thatch strikes a pose that mimics Marco's startled expression, exaggerating it for comedic effect. "Oh no, my posture is failing me! Help me, yoi!"

[Setting: Moby Dick Deck; Afternoon]
Ace's voice carries across the deck before he even comes into full view, his energy as combustible as the flames he wields. "Hey, Marco! Get over here! I want you to meet someone!" Ace calls out, his grin wide as he practically drags you by the arm toward the First Division Commander.
Marco is leaning against the railing, one leg hooked back against the wood, looking every bit as relaxed as the ocean breeze. His purple jacket hangs open, revealing the tattooed silhouette of Whitebeard's Jolly Roger across his chest. Below the waistband of his light blue sash, a thin, blond happy trail matching the golden tufts of his hair traces a path downward toward his dark pants. His half lidded eyes drift toward Ace and you, a lazy but warm smile tugging at his lips.
"What's all the noise about, Ace yoi?" Marco asks, his voice carrying that familiar, sleepy cadence. He straightens up slightly as you approach, his gaze settling on you with genuine curiosity. There's something about your energy that immediately catches his attention, making his phoenix instincts hum with interest.
As Ace finishes his enthusiastic introduction, you pause, and out of pure instinct, you cock your head to the left, studying him.
Without even realizing he's doing it, Marco's own head tilts at the exact same angle. His movements are fluid and unconscious, his body simply responding to yours like a mirror. He doesn't even register that he's copied you; he's too busy taking in your features.
They've got an interesting presence about them, yoi, Marco thinks to himself, feeling an odd, immediate sense of familiarity. Like they belong here already.
Noticing his movement, you shift your weight and cock your head to the opposite side. Like a perfectly synchronized shadow, Marco's head tilts to the right in the exact same motion. Now he notices. He blinks, his expression one of mild confusion as he realizes he's mimicking you, but he doesn't pull away. Instead, he finds it oddly endearing.
When you finally break the pattern and smile widely at him, Marco feels a sudden, warm flutter in his chest. His own smile widens in response not a mimicry this time, but a genuine reaction to your brightness.
"Nice to meet you," he murmurs, his tone softening.
From the direction of the galley, Thatch has been watching the entire exchange with growing amusement. He leans against the doorframe, crossing his arms with a theatrical gasp. "Oh ho! Look at that!" Thatch calls out loudly enough for the rest of the deck to hear. "Marco's already found a new favorite person to copy! I didn't even get to place my bets yet!"

[Setting: The Deck of the Moby Dick; Mid Afternoon]
The sun is beating down on the Moby Dick, casting dancing reflections of the ocean across the polished wood of the deck. It’s one of those rare, lazy afternoons where the crew isn’t bracing for a Marine ambush or chasing a lead. Marco is leaning against the ship's railing, his usual sleepy expression present as he watches Thatch and Ace engage in some ridiculous argument over who gets the last piece of specially prepared meat from the galley.
Something about Thatch’s exaggerated hand gestures and the way Ace is nearly falling over laughing triggers something in Marco’s subconscious. Without even thinking, his chest rumbles, and a deep, booming "Gurararara!" escapes his lips an exact echo of Whitebeard’s iconic laugh. He doesn't even realize he's done it until the sound hangs in the air, and he blinks, looking momentarily confused by the sound of his own voice.
Then you join in. "GURARARARA!"
Marco freezes, his head snapping toward you. His eyes go wide, and his eyebrows shoot up beneath his blond tuft of hair. He feels a strange, warm jolt in his chest at your boldness. He isn't used to people especially someone he doesn't know intimately matching his energy so readily. He finds himself studying you, his gaze lingering on your face, and before he can even process the surprise, his own body betrays him. His head tilts to the side at the exact same angle as yours, his posture unconsciously mirroring yours as he processes the situation.
This person... they've got guts, yoi, Marco thinks, a small, genuine smile tugging at the corner of his mouth despite his embarrassment. They're not even hesitant. I like that. Most people are intimidated by the old man's laugh, but they just jumped right in with me.
The crew, however, does not let the moment pass in silence.
"DID YOU SEE THAT?" Thatch shrieks, abandoning his argument with Ace to point a dramatic finger at the two of you. He gasps loudly, clutching his chest as if he's witnessed a miracle. "Our responsible First Mate is being synced! Someone get a camera! Marco's found his twin!"
Ace doubles over, slapping his knee as he howls with laughter. "Hahaha! Look at them! They're even standing the same way now!" Ace nudges the brother nearest to him, and within seconds, several crew members have shifted their weight to match your exact stance, creating a ridiculous human mirror effect. "Hey, Marco! If you start doing your chores too, maybe you can convince them to do your paperwork instead!"
From his massive chair, Whitebeard's chest heaves as he lets out a thunderous laugh that shakes the very deck beneath your feet. "Gurararara! What a lively one you've found, Marco!" The old man's grin is wide and approving, his eyes glinting with amusement at his first mate's obvious flustered state.
Izo simply glides past, a hand on his hip, his elegant kimono fluttering in the sea breeze. He catches your eye and gives you a slow, knowing smirk, adjusting his own sleeve. "My, my. It seems Marco has already been compromised," he murmurs with a teasing lilt in his voice. "How quickly you've gotten under his skin."
Marco feels the heat rising to his cheeks. He shifts uncomfortably, his purple jacket slipping slightly to reveal the tattoo on his chest and the faint blond happy trail that disappears beneath his sash. He scratches the back of his neck, finally breaking the mirror pose, though his eyes remain fixed on you, curious and warm.
"Quit making a scene, you idiots yoi," Marco mutters, though there's no real bite in his tone. He looks back at you, his voice softening. "You're pretty loud, aren't you?"

[Setting: Moby Dick's Galley; Midday]
The galley was alive with its usual midday chaos the clatter of ceramic plates, the boisterous laughter of pirates, and the mouth watering aroma of Thatch's latest culinary experiment wafting through the air. Sunlight streamed through the portholes, catching the dust motes dancing above the long wooden tables where the crew gathered to refuel.
Thatch was in rare form today. Standing at the center of the galley, he wasn't just serving food; he was performing. He held a silver platter aloft like it contained the crown jewels of Mary Geoise, his free hand sweeping through the air in grand, exaggerated arcs. "And here, my dear brothers and sisters of the sea," Thatch declared, his voice carrying that theatrical lilt that always made him the center of attention, "we have the pièce de résistance! A sauce so velvety, so divine, it would make a Sea King weep with envy!" His fingers splayed wide as he gestured toward the steaming dish, his elbow jutting out at a sharp, dramatic angle to emphasize his passion.
Marco sat at one of the peripheral tables, leaning back with his usual sleepy, half lidded expression. He had a cup of coffee in one hand, his thumb tracing idle patterns along the rim. His mind was wandering, drifting through the pleasant hum of the ship's routine, feeling the comfortable warmth of his family surrounding him. He wasn't paying conscious attention to Thatch's theatrics, yet his body seemed to be listening to a different rhythm entirely.
As Thatch threw his hand upward in another sweeping, passionate flourish fingers extended, palm upturned, elbow raised high Marco's own arm moved. Without breaking his calm demeanor or even seeming to notice his own movement, Marco's right arm mirrored the gesture perfectly. His fingers splayed in the exact same configuration, his elbow jutting out at the same precise angle, his hand hovering in the air as if he were also presenting an invisible masterpiece.
Marco's inner thoughts remained blissfully unaware of the synchronization. 'Thatch's been eating too many spices lately, yoi... his energy is always so loud...' he mused lazily, taking a sip of his coffee. He didn't even realize his body had just performed a perfect pantomime of the chef.
Thatch, caught mid sentence while describing the 'soul of the spices,' froze. His dramatic expression faltered as his eyes darted sideways, landing directly on Marco. A slow, mischievous grin began to spread across the cook's face. He didn't stop; instead, he leaned into it. Thatch deliberately jerked his head to the left with an exaggerated pout, testing the waters.
The silence in the immediate area grew as Ace, who had been mid bite into a drumstick, paused to watch. The air in the galley felt charged with the impending spectacle. Thatch's eyes sparkled with delight as he prepared to escalate the game, waiting to see if his First Mate would follow him into the theatrical deep end.

[Setting: Moby Dick Deck; Afternoon]
The sun hung high over the Grand Line, casting warm, golden light across the expansive wooden deck of the Moby Dick. The gentle creak of the ship's hull and the rhythmic splashing of waves against the sides provided a soothing backdrop to the usual boisterous energy of the Whitebeard Pirates. Near the galley entrance, the atmosphere was particularly charged, though not with the threat of battle this was something far more dangerous: mischief.
Thatch leaned in close to Ace, his green hair mussed from a morning spent in the kitchen, a conspiratorial glint in his eyes. "I'm telling you, Ace, it's inevitable now, yoi wait, wrong person I mean, it's inevitable! I saw it yesterday when he was talking to Vista. He practically started twirling an imaginary mustache halfway through the sentence!" Thatch lowered his voice to a dramatic whisper, though his grin was wide enough to span the deck. "Ten Berries says the next one is a physical gesture. Something theatrical."
Ace snorted, crossing his arms over his bare chest, his dark hair catching the sunlight. He looked thoroughly amused, his orange hat tilted back on his head. "Ten Berries? That's a rookie bet, Thatch. I've been watching him closely. Every time I slouch down to grab something from the cooler, he does the exact same thing five minutes later without even realizing it. I'm betting twenty that he mimics my posture before the sun sets."
A few yards away, Marco was leaning against the main railing, seemingly absorbed in a medical log he held in one hand. His short blond hair caught the breeze, and his purple jacket hung open, revealing the familiar tattoo across his chest. To any outsider, he looked perfectly composed the calm, collected First Division Commander.
But beneath that serene exterior, Marco's instincts were humming. He could feel the energy shifting between his younger brothers. He didn't know about the bet, but he could sense their heightened excitement, their playful tension. It felt... familiar. Comforting. A part of him instinctively wanted to match that frequency.
As Thatch spoke, gesturing wildly with one hand to emphasize his point about the mustache, Marco's free hand the one not holding the log absentmindedly rose. Without breaking his gaze from the parchment, Marco's fingers curled into the exact same dramatic flourish Thatch had just used, his wrist flicking outward in a mirror image of the chef's theatrical motion. He didn't even notice he had done it; it was as natural as breathing, a subconscious synchronization with the 'flock' around him.
They're being loud today, yoi, Marco thought to himself, a small, almost imperceptible smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. He felt a deep sense of contentment. This was what he lived for the noise, the chaos, the undeniable presence of family. Even when they were being ridiculous, there was a harmony in it that his body couldn't help but echo. He felt more connected to them in these mundane moments than in any battle.
A few paces behind them, Izo leaned against a support beam, polishing one of his pistols. He caught the movement the perfect mirror of Thatch's gesture and raised a single, elegant eyebrow. A tiny smirk played on his lips as he glanced toward Ace and Thatch, silently warning them that the 'target' was already performing.
Ace's eyes suddenly darted toward Marco, his grin widening into something downright wicked. "There! Did you see that?!" he hissed to Thatch, pointing a finger without actually turning his whole body. "That was Thatch's flourish! Pay up, chef!"

[Setting: Moby Dick Main Deck; Time: 2:14 PM]
The afternoon sun hangs heavy and golden over the New World, casting dancing reflections of light across the polished wood of the Moby Dick’s massive deck. The air is thick with the smell of salt spray and the distant aroma of whatever Thatch is whipping up in the galley. It’s one of those rare, peaceful stretches of time where the crew isn't bracing for a Marine ambush or navigating a deadly current. Instead, the deck is a scene of organized chaos pirates lounging against rigging, the occasional burst of laughter erupting from a card game, and the deep, resonant rumble of Whitebeard’s laughter echoing from his massive chair.
Marco leans against the railing, his usual sleepy expression fixed on his features. His light purple jacket hangs open, revealing his lean, muscular chest and the distinctive tattoo of Whitebeard’s jolly roger. A thin line of blond hair a happy trail traces a path from his navel downward, disappearing beneath the golden yellow belt of his light blue sash. He looks relaxed, almost bored, but his sharp eyes are fixed on you.
You are new to the crew or perhaps just a guest and you've been sitting on a nearby barrel, focused on something in your hands. As you sit there, you unconsciously shift your weight, crossing one leg over the other and resting your chin in your palm while you think.
Marco doesn't even realize he's doing it. His gaze remains fixed on you, but his body begins to betray his focus. Slowly, almost fluidly, he shifts his own weight off the railing. His right leg crosses over his left in the exact same angle as yours. His hand rises, fingers curling to support his own chin in a perfect mirror image of your posture. He looks like a bird settling into a familiar perch, his movements synchronized with yours without a single conscious thought crossing his mind.
Who are they again, yoi? Marco wonders internally. His inner dialogue is a low hum of curiosity. There's something about your presence that feels... calming. His instincts, usually tuned to threats or the well being of his brothers, are suddenly fascinated by your rhythm. He finds himself drawn to the way you move, the way you breathe, and without understanding why, his body wants to match it. It's a pull he can't quite explain an unconscious desire to be in sync with you.
"Oi, Marco! Earth to Phoenix!"
The spell is broken as Thatch emerges from the galley, holding a tray of drinks. The chef stops dead in his tracks, his blue eyes darting from you to Marco. A slow, mischievous grin spreads across Thatch's face as he notices the identical poses. He sets the tray down with a dramatic clatter and gestures wildly toward the two of you.
"Uh oh, look at that! I think our First Mate has found a new favorite person to copy!" Thatch calls out loudly enough to draw attention. "Hey Ace! Get over here! Marco's doing it again!"
Ace, who had been napping nearby, jerks awake with a snort, rubbing his eyes. He blinks, looks at you, then looks at Marco, and immediately bursts into a loud, wheezing laugh. "No way! He's already started? That's fast, even for him!"
Marco blinks, finally becoming aware of his position. He doesn't startle he's too level headed for that but he does lift his head, looking at Thatch and Ace with a deadpan expression. "Shut up, yoi. I'm just standing here."
Despite his words, he doesn't immediately uncross his leg. He glances back at you, his sleepy eyes softening slightly, waiting to see how you'll react to the sudden attention.

[Setting: Moby Dick Main Deck; Afternoon]
The Grand Line sun hangs heavy and golden in the sky, casting a warm glow across the wooden planks of the Moby Dick. The atmosphere is unusually peaceful, the distant sounds of crew members laughing and the rhythmic creaking of the ship providing a soothing backdrop. Marco is leaning back against the sturdy railing, one leg hooked behind the other, his posture loose and unhurried. His signature light purple jacket hangs open, fluttering slightly in the sea breeze and revealing the toned expanse of his chest and the dark tattoo that marks his loyalty to Whitebeard. A thin line of blonde hair a happy trail traces a path from his navel downward, disappearing beneath the golden yellow belt of his light blue sash.
His half lidded eyes are fixed on you, watching with a quiet, lazy intensity. He isn't thinking about anything in particular; he's simply existing in your space, letting the familiar comfort of your presence settle over him like a blanket. There's something about your energy that draws him in, making his mythical instincts hum beneath his skin. Without even realizing it, he feels himself syncing with you the way you breathe, the way you lean, the very rhythm of your movements. It’s an unconscious pull, a deeply ingrained part of his nature to align himself with those he cares for.
As you sit nearby, your fingers begin their familiar dance, twirling and fidgeting against one another in a restless pattern. Marco's gaze drifts down to your hands, observing the motion with the focused curiosity of a bird. His own hands are resting on the railing, but as he watches you, his fingers begin to move.
Slowly, almost hypnotically, Marco’s long fingers start to mirror your own. His index and middle fingers begin to twirl and tap against each other in the exact same cadence as yours, the timing perfectly synchronized. He isn't aware he's doing it; his mind is still half lost in the lazy haze of the afternoon, his body simply reflecting your nervous habit.
When your eyes lift and meet his, he catches you looking at his hands. He blinks slowly, his sleepy expression faltering as he follows your gaze down to his own fidgeting fingers. He freezes mid motion, his fingers still intertwined in your exact pattern. A small, sheepish grin tugs at the corner of his mouth as he looks back up at you.
I didn't even notice, he thinks, a strange warmth spreading through his chest. I just... wanted to be in sync with them. Why am I doing this again?
"Something on my face, yoi?" he asks, his voice a low, gravelly drawl, though he doesn't pull his hands away.
