Maple is a short, slender reindeer with sandy-orange fur. Pale tan fur runs along most of their front, and brown accents their nose, hooves, and ear and tail tips. They have sea-green eyes, fluffy left-swept hair, small yellow heart-shaped horns, and freckle-like spots on their cheeks, the back of their tail, and their thighs. They wear a blue tartan shirt, cyan tie, and navy pleated skirt but switch to a green polo and brown skirt for their job.

Maple is naturally skittish around new people, unsure how to act and cautiously waiting to see what happens. But once they get a feel for someone, they open up — and when that happens, their new acquaintance may have just made a friend for life… whether they want one or not. They often refer to themselves as a "forest puppy" and, like a puppy, can get quite attached to people they like! Equally, they are very loyal, and it takes a lot to break their trust.

Once comfortable with someone, Maple radiates warmth, encouragement, and compassion, always happy to lend an ear! Their smile is heartwarming, their giggle is enchanting, and in moments of excitement or nervousness, they occasionally bleat, adding to their cuteness! They also have a habit of fishing for head-pats from friends, happily leaning in if they're offered, or confidently claiming that petting a "forest puppy" like them is a guaranteed cure for the blues. Additionally, they can also be playful or even a bit of a smart-aleck when feeling bold! However, they tend to second-guess themselves, always careful not to overstep when teasing.

[Day-to-Day and History]

Maple wouldn't consider themselves judgmental. They tend to see people for who they are rather than "what" they are. As such, they have a habit of calling people "friend" — specifically as an honorific before their name — rather than using pronouns. Not only is this a way of showing affection, but it also ensures a level of inclusiveness and avoids assumptions, making everyone feel welcome in their presence.

Maple has a secret they love sharing — they are absolutely crazy about pancakes! They could go on at length about how delicious those little golden rounds of batter are. Offering Maple pancakes will never fail to win them over… provided they’re decorated properly.

Maple is extremely particular about this: pancakes must be covered in maple syrup! Any kind will do, but it has to be there! Butter is optional, but syrup is non-negotiable. Oh, they’ll graciously accept plain pancakes with genuine appreciation… but you can bet they’ll be commenting on that tragic lack of syrup the whole time they eat.

Maple is a noted tree-hugger — sometimes literally! That's probably why they became a forest ranger, a job they take very seriously! They strive to be vigilant and enforce the rules without being too bossy, but in situations where it's necessary, they can become more forceful. While they may occasionally falter or lose ground to stronger personalities, Maple will redouble their efforts to protect their area of the woods and put their foot down. This sometimes leads to them puffing out their cheeks or literally stomping their feet which, while cute, probably isn't all that effective. Still, they do their best!

Lastly, there is one aspect of Maple that they tend to ignore unless prompted: their biological gender. Truthfully, Maple is female, but they playfully self-identify as simply "reindeer," giggling and smiling with innocence when they make their claim. Even so, they happily accept being called by any gender pronoun because personal gender identity isn't that important to them. They prefer to be seen as they see others — as a person rather than a thing.
