   Keys: Officers Academy, Part 1: White Clouds, academy phase

   In the game, the protagonist Byleth experiences a dream featuring a divine war and a mysterious girl named Sothis. Byleth is woken up by their father, Jeralt, and they soon encounter three students—Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude—from the Officers Academy who need help with bandits. During the skirmish, Sothis appears again to teach Byleth how to rewind time, saving Edelgard and impressing everyone.

   Jeralt and Byleth are then invited back to Garreg Mach Monastery by the Knights of Seiros. Lady Rhea, the archbishop, asks Jeralt to rejoin the Knights and surprisingly offers Byleth a teaching position at the academy. Despite a warning from Jeralt about Rhea, both accept the offers. Byleth chooses to lead one of the academy's three houses, each representing different factions: the Empire, the Kingdom, and the Alliance.

   As Byleth trains their students, they uncover a conspiracy against the Church and thwart an attempt to steal a powerful artifact, the Sword of the Creator, which resonates with them. Later, they are sent on a mission to recover another stolen artifact, but it transforms the bandit leader Miklan into a monster, leading Byleth and their students to question the true nature of such Relics and Crests.

   Later in the game, the monastery's chapel is attacked, and Byleth's father Jeralt is killed by a student who is an agent of a cult opposing the Church. Byleth learns from Jeralt's diary that he had fled the Church due to its plans for Byleth as a newborn. Byleth is then trapped in a dark plane by the cult leader Solon, but escapes with newfound powers after Sothis merges with them, sacrificing her individuality.

   Upon returning, Byleth is led to the Holy Tomb by Rhea, who tries to awaken Sothis. Edelgard, revealed as the Flame Emperor, attacks the tomb, accusing the Church of corruption. It's revealed that Rhea is actually a dragon and possibly Seiros herself. Byleth must then choose a side: Edelgard's Empire, Rhea's Church, Dimitri's Kingdom, or Claude's Alliance.

   Depending on the choice, Byleth either attacks or defends the monastery and is knocked unconscious, waking up five years later in a Fódlan at war. The story diverges based on this choice, leading to different outcomes in the battle among the Empire, Kingdom, Alliance, and Church.

   Keys: Cindered Shadows, Abyss, Ashen Wolves

   In the past, an attempt to resurrect Sothis through the Rite of Rising failed, leading to the disappearance of the Four Apostles. In the present, Byleth and their students discover Abyss, an underground settlement beneath Garreg Mach, defended by a secret fourth house called the Ashen Wolves. The Ashen Wolves reveal they have a truce with the Church but are under threat from mercenaries seeking the Chalice of Beginnings, a key component for the Rite of Rising.

   Aelfric, the Church's liaison to Abyss, warns that some within the Church want Abyss purged. The Ashen Wolves obtain the Chalice but Aelfric is captured. It turns out Aelfric is the mastermind behind the attacks and plans to use the Chalice to resurrect Byleth's mother, Sitri, by sacrificing the Ashen Wolves, who are revealed to be descendants of the Four Apostles.

   Byleth and the Ashen Wolves rescue Aelfric, but he proceeds with the ritual, transforming into an Umbral Beast. They are forced to slay him to stop the ritual. As a reward for their bravery, Rhea disbands the Ashen Wolves, allowing them to return to the surface. They part ways but promise to reunite if needed.

   Keys: Silver Snow

   After reuniting with their students, Byleth learns that Rhea is missing and the Church is weakened. They agree to stop the war and retake Garreg Mach as a base. Despite receiving help from Claude and Dimitri, the Church, Empire, and Alliance suffer heavy losses in a three-way battle. Dimitri is presumed dead, and Claude goes missing. A failed attempt to seize a fort forces Byleth to change tactics. They infiltrate the Empire's capital, defeat Edelgard, and rescue Rhea.

   Byleth then targets "those who slither in the dark," remnants of the ancient Agarthan civilization. Thales, their leader, destroys his own base in defeat. Rhea, in her dragon form, protects everyone but is gravely injured. She reveals that Byleth's birth was part of an experiment to create a vessel for Sothis, and she goes mad from the power she used to save Byleth. Byleth is forced to defeat her.

   In the end, the Empire, Kingdom, and Alliance dissolve, and Fódlan unifies under the Church with Byleth as the new ruler.

   Keys: Crimson Flower

   Byleth, the protagonist, reunites with their students and allies with Edelgard. They find out that the Kingdom has joined forces with the Church, while the Alliance is neutral. Edelgard aims to first conquer the Alliance and then the Kingdom. Byleth successfully captures the Alliance capital, and Claude, the Alliance leader, is either killed or exiled.

   As they move into the Kingdom, they capture a crucial fortress. However, Edelgard's uncle Arundel sabotages them by destroying the fortress. Edelgard keeps this betrayal a secret, blaming the Church for the destruction. The army continues its advance, eventually defeating and killing Dimitri, the Kingdom's leader.

   Rhea, the Church leader, becomes increasingly unstable and sets fire to the Kingdom's capital. Edelgard and Byleth are forced to stop her, ultimately killing her in the process. Byleth nearly dies but is saved by the Crest Stone in their heart dissolving.

   In the end, Edelgard unifies Fódlan under the Empire, abolishes the Church and the nobility, and sets her sights on defeating "those who slither in the dark."

   Keys: Azure Moon

   Byleth reunites with Dimitri, who has been dethroned and is now unstable, obsessed with avenging his family against Edelgard. Byleth, their students, and remnants of the Church ally with Dimitri, using Garreg Mach as their base. Dimitri instigates a massive battle involving his army, the Empire, and the Alliance, resulting in heavy casualties. A sacrifice from a loyal vassal and guidance from Byleth help Dimitri abandon his vengeful path.

   Reformed, Dimitri focuses on liberating his Kingdom and becomes king. He rescues Claude, leader of the Alliance, who then dissolves the Alliance and cedes its territory to Dimitri. Dimitri attempts to make peace with Edelgard but is forced to invade her Empire when she refuses. Ultimately, he defeats and kills Edelgard.

   In the end, Fódlan is united under Dimitri's rule, and Byleth becomes the new archbishop of the Church as Rhea steps down.

   Keys: Verdant Wind

   Byleth reunites with Claude and they occupy Garreg Mach as their base against the Empire. During a massive battle involving Edelgard's and Dimitri's forces, Edelgard retreats and Dimitri is killed. Byleth and Claude advance towards an Empire fort with help from the foreign nation of Almyra, but the fort is destroyed by "javelins of light." Claude reveals his goal to end Fódlan's isolationism.

   They continue to the Empire capital, defeating and killing Edelgard. They discover that a shadowy group, "those who slither in the dark," has been manipulating events. Claude's army defeats this group in their underground city. Rhea, in her dragon form, intercepts a deadly attack meant for them but is gravely injured.

   Nemesis, an ancient figure, is resurrected by the cult as a last-ditch effort to destroy Fódlan. Byleth and Claude defeat Nemesis and his undead army. In the end, Fódlan is united under Byleth and Claude, who open its borders and establish relations with foreign nations.

   Keys: Setting

   Fire Emblem: Three Houses is set on the continent of Fódlan, divided into three nations: the Adrestian Empire, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and the Leicester Alliance. At the heart of the continent is Garreg Mach Monastery, which houses the Church of Seiros and the Officers Academy. The academy has three houses: the Black Eagles, the Blue Lions, and the Golden Deer, each representing one of the main nations. There's also a subterranean area called Abyss, home to the Ashen Wolves, a house in name only.

   The game delves into the ancient history of Fódlan, where a war between Seiros and Nemesis led to the formation of the Empire. Over a thousand years, the Kingdom and the Alliance broke away, leading to ongoing conflicts. The Church plays a role in maintaining peace. Crests, magical symbols inherited through families, are central to Fódlan's politics and history.

   The game has two main time periods: Imperial Year 1180, when characters are students at the academy, and five years later, when the three nations are at war.

   Saint Seiros first appeared in the land of Enbarr. Her miracles returned light to the land and inspired those purest of heart to establish the Church of Seiros.

    The First Mach War occurs. An army from Dagda arrives from across the sea and invades Mach. The Adrestian Empire drives off the Dagdans, but Mach is heavily damaged.

    The Invasion of Brigid occurs. The Adrestian Empire invades the Brigid archipelago, which was allied with Dagda. The people of Brigid refuse to surrender, and the land is forcibly subjugated.

    The Invasion of Dagda occurs. Using Brigid as a foothold, the Adrestian Empire launches a large-scale invasion of Dagda, but the attack ultimately fails.

    The War of the Eagle and Lion begins. Loog, assisted by his allies Kyphon and Pan, raises an army to demand independence from the Empire, pulling the region of Faerghus into a rebellion.

    King Klaus I dies. His sons, the three princes, divide the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus into three territories and rule them as archdukes.

    The Crescent Moon War begins. The archduke ruling the Leicester region of the Kingdom succumbs to illness, and the nobles of Leicester reject his heir and attempt to form an alliance instead.

    The Crescent Moon War ends. The Leicester Alliance is founded after the defeat of the loyalist nobles. The Duke of Riegan, a member of the cadet branch of the Blaiddyd royal family, becomes the Alliance's leader.

    The Almyran Invasion occurs. Almyra, a powerful eastern nation, crosses Fódlan's Throat and invades the Leicester Alliance. The invaders are narrowly defeated with the help of an army from the Adrestian Empire.

    The Officers Academy is established at Garreg Mach Monastery in response to the incursions into Fódlan from Almyra with the aim of guaranteeing the continent's leadership was prepared to prevent the border from being taken.

    The Southern Church, based in Enbarr, leads a massive insurrection throughout the Adrestian Empire which is put down. The Emperor exiles the bishop who led the uprising and replaces the Church with the Ministry of Religion under House Varley.

    The Adrestian Empire, Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and Leicester Alliance pool their resources to construct Fódlan's Locket, a fortress intended to fend off further invasions from Almyra.

    Hubert becomes Edelgard's vassal. House Hrym revolts against the Adrestian Empire. The Ordelia family, which supported the rebellion, loses much of its standing, and Lysithea is caught up in the Empire's interventions. Mercedes and her mother leave House Bartels and live in a church in eastern Faerghus.

    Caspar's father becomes the next Count Bergliez after Caspar's grandfather retires. Upon leaving the village of Timotheos, Hapi is abducted and subjected to magical experimentation. Rodrigue serves as the king's right hand in this conflict and earns the moniker "Shield of Faerghus".

Catherine graduates from the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach. After various events, Monica's father inherits the title of Baron Ochs.

    The Dagda and Brigid War occurs. A united force from Dagda and Brigid invades the Imperial territories of Nuvelle and Ochs. The invaders cause significant damage, but are eventually routed and counter-invaded. Petra's father, the son of the reigning king of Brigid, perishes in battle, and Brigid is made an Imperial vassal state. The mercenary company of Shamir is mostly wiped out, her partner being among the fatalities. Afterwhich she travels to Fódlan to continue her work. Constance, the eldest daughter of Count Nuvelle, loses her family, title and lands in the Dagda and Brigid War. Petra goes to the Empire as a symbol of Brigid's vassalage. Shamir joins the Knights of Seiros.

    Catherine joins the Knights of Seiros. Horsebow Moon - The Tragedy of Duscur occurs. Several members of the aristocracy of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus are assassinated, including King Lambert and Glenn, first son of Rodrigue and elder brother of Felix. Dimitri is the sole survivor of the attack. The people of the Duscur region are blamed and heavily persecuted by the Kingdom in retaliation. Grand Duke Rufus of Itha assumes regency over the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus in the stead of Crown Prince Dimitri. Dedue, who lost his family during the subjugation of Duscur, is saved through Dimitri's intervention. Dedue later swears fealty to him and becomes his vassal. Christophe, son of Lonato and adoptive brother to Ashe, is caught by Catherine and executed by the Knights of Seiros for his alleged role in the Tragedy of Duscur. Marianne is adopted by the Margrave of Edmund. Constance relocates to Fhirdiad, where she enrolls at the school of sorcery. After being freed, Hapi finds refuge in a church in Faerghus.

    Annette's father, Gustave Eddie Dominic, vanishes. Annette is taken in by her uncle, the new Baron Dominic. Raphael's parents are attacked and killed by monsters. Miklan is disinherited from House Gautier. Cyril is captured while serving in the army and becomes a servant of House Goneril. Constance graduates from the school of sorcery and enrolls at the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach. Gilbert joins the Knights of Seiros Emile is adopted into house Hyrm, becoming its heir and changing his name to Jeritza.

    A rebellion occurs in the west of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Dimitri distinguishes himself as a commander in the suppression effort, while Felix participates as a squire. Annette enrolls in the Royal School of Sorcery in Fhirdiad. Lorenz enrolls in the Royal School of Sorcery in Fhirdiad, but later leaves before graduating due to political changes in the Kingdom. Cyril is noticed by Archbishop Rhea and begins working at the monastery. Yuri enrolls at the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach, but is expelled due to a scandal and becomes a resident of Abyss. Jeritza becomes a professor in the Officers Academy

    Keys: Imperial Year 1179

    Claude is announced as a legitimate heir to House Riegan. Raphael sells his estate, closes his merchant business, and resolves to become a knight. Flayn begins living at Garreg Mach Monastery. Monica enrolls at the Officers Academy as a student of the Black Eagle house, but goes missing shortly before her graduation. No evidence of foul play is found. Tomas, a respected librarian of the Church of Seiros for forty years, returns to the Church after years of retirement to assume his former duties. To evade bounty hunters, Balthus becomes a resident of Abyss. Hapi is discovered by the Knights of Seiros and is imprisoned in Abyss.

    Keys: Fodlan, Fódlan

    The recorded history of Fódlan begins 41 years before the Adrestian Empire's founding, marked by the appearance of Saint Seiros in Enbarr. Miracles performed by Seiros led to the formation of the Church of Seiros. The Adrestian Empire was established in Imperial Year 1 by Wilhelm I, who chose Enbarr as the capital due to Seiros' presence. In Year 32, Wilhelm initiated the War of Heroes to conquer Fódlan but faced resistance led by Nemesis, the King of Liberation. Seiros killed Nemesis in Year 91, but the war continued until Year 98 when Wilhelm's successor, Lycaon I, died.

    In Year 751, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus broke away from the Empire after winning the War of the Eagle and Lion. The Church crowned its first king, Loog, granting the Kingdom autonomy. In Year 801, Leicester rebelled against the Empire, and Faerghus occupied it. In Year 861, the Kingdom was divided into three parts ruled by the sons of King Klaus I. The death of Leicester's archduke in 881 led to the formation of the Leicester Alliance in 901, after the Crescent Moon War.

    By 1180, the constant threat of foreign invasion has forced the three powers to unite under the Church, which continues to maintain peace across Fódlan. The history is marked by wars, secessions, and alliances, with the Church playing a central role in shaping the continent's political landscape

    Keys: Enbarr, Adestrian Empire

    The Adrestian Empire in the south of Fódlan is monarchy ruled by an emperor. Its capital city is Enbarr, the most populated city on the continent and the seat of House Hresvelg, a dynasty that can be traced back over 1,100 years to the founding of the Empire. Recently, Emperor Ionius IX was strong-armed into ceding much of his authority to the prime minister, Duke Aegir, in the Insurrection of the Seven. With the nobility mired in corruption, Princess Edelgard has resolved to reclaim what her father lost and restore the Empire to glory.

    The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus in the north of Fódlan is a monarchy ruled by a king. Its capital city is Fhirdiad, an isolated yet bustling city controlled by House Blaiddyd, the royal family. Recently, the Kingdom suffered the loss of several nobles and its king, Lambert, in the Tragedy of Duscur, a misfortune that left deep scars on the populace and sparked the genocide of the people of Duscur. Crown Prince Dimitri, the only survivor of the assassination, is haunted by his experience as he prepares to assume the throne.

    The Leicester Alliance in the east of Fódlan is a republic ruled by a council of nobles. Its capital city is Derdriu, an industrious port controlled by House Riegan, the noble family that leads the Leicester Alliance roundtable. Recently, amidst ongoing troubles with the neighboring kingdom of Almyra, Duke Oswald announced that his grandson Claude would succeed him. Alliance leadership had briefly been thrown into question after the death of the duke's son and previous heir Godfrey, as Godfrey had no offspring of his own and his sister, Tiana, had not been seen in years.
