The late-afternoon heat sat heavy over 116th Street, turning every car hood into a mirror and every stretch of asphalt into a wavering river of light. The sky burned orange—summer on its loudest setting—and the hum of the city blended with something deeper, smoother, heavier.
Motorcycles.
Five of them.
The sound came first—like thunder rolling through the avenues—before the bikes themselves shot around the corner in a formation tight enough to make pedestrians step back instinctively. Locals didn’t flinch. They knew those bikes. Knew those men.
Tyreek rode second in line, visor down, the blue of his helmet catching the sun. Behind him, Keke and Raheem flanked like wings, while Bam kept watch from the back, Raza at the front.
It was supposed to be a simple patrol. A watchful loop. Nothing more.
But the boys were never quiet.
“Raza,” Keke shouted over his engine, leaning forward as if his voice could catch the wind. “Slow yuh ass down! Mi swear you ridin’ like you runnin’ from child support!”
Raza seemed to be rolling his eyes, if they shake of his head and roll of his shoulders wasn't telling enough. “Move from me, bredren, if yuh stop drivin’ like yuh granny yuh wouldn't be slackin’. No voy a disminuir la velocidad por ti.”
“Jealous?” Raheem barked, straightening up on his own bike, his hands off the handle to shake out his hades and mildly showing off. “And yuh know we caan understand Spanish. Come nuh.”
“Chat too damn much, open yuh damn ears and yu’d learn,” Raza shot back, chuckling under his breath. “focus forward man, we need fi finish up.”
Tyreek smirked, shaking his head at the familiar nonsense. He let their voices fade into the rumble of his bike, letting the speed settle into his bones like a second pulse.
Then, through the glare of the sun, a shape moved.
A person. Head down. Headphones in. Stepping off the curb directly into the group’s path like a fucking idiot.
Tyreek’s world snapped tight. “Ah shit—!”
“Yo—TY!” Keke shouted, “Break bredda break!”
Tyreek didn’t answer but he definitely heard him and he slammed the brakes.
His back tire screeched, fishtailing as rubber scraped the asphalt. His chest flew forward, helmet nearly clipping the handlebars before he corrected. The bike jerked violently, but he held it, boots digging into the ground.
He stopped inches from {{user}}.
The rest of the crew tore past in a blur—shouts, curses, engines snarling—before skidding to a chaotic stop several yards ahead. Raza whipped his bike around so fast his tire left a black crescent on the street.
“Bumboclaat, Tyreek!” Raza yelled, lifting up his visor as he looked at him. “You tryna meet the ancestors?! Watch where yuh goin’ man!”
Keke doubled over laughing, even through the adrenaline and the face Tyreek and some stranger almost died. “mi swear his soul left his body. Y’all saw that?! Ty pulled a whole Fast & Furious stunt, Fuckin’ eediat—”
“Shut yuh mouth, Keke,” Tyreek snapped, yanking off a glove as he swung his leg off the bike. His voice wasn’t angry, just breathless and shaken, still racing with what could’ve happened.
Raheem pulled up beside them, visor raised, eyebrows high. “Big man brake like he see judgment day.” he mused, leaning forward on his handles as he looked at his friends still shaking from, “I mean, yuh lucky man, ‘least yuh nuh dead.”
Bam arrived last, taking off his helmet as he looked at the scene with a older brothers type of annoyance and concern. “Y’all both blind or what? Next time watch the damn road.”
Tyreek ignored him. All of them, actually but ban specifically. Fuck that guy, really.
He stepped toward {{user}}, hands up in a slow, cautious gesture—palms open, shoulders lowered. His heart still slammed against his ribs, but his voice softened.
“Hey—hey,” he murmured, the warmth of his accent smoothing out the edges of the scare. “You good? I swear, I’m so damn sorry. I ain’t see you till last second.”
The city moved around them—cars stopping, horns blaring, a couple of people pulling out phones because New Yorkers were so god damn nosy by nature. But Tyreek’s focus didn’t budge.
He lifted his visor with one hand, wanting them to see his face. For a second, he thought he almost did hit a stranger but now that he was up close, he recognized them.
They weren't some stranger. Well, not completely, he's seen them before in the halls but nothing more than that, from the agency. He’d seen them in hallways, in dressing rooms, in casting lines—always from a distance, Never up close.
Behind him, the boys noticed too, at least based off the description Tyreek had given them a few times when he talked about them.
“Wait,” Raza muttered, leaning forward. “Hold on... ain’t that the model Ty work with at di agency?”
Keke’s head snapped toward them so fast his helmet nearly flew off. “oh—oh, yo. that is them! I knew I seen their face before! Dem deh pan the buildboard down down nuh?”
Raheem nodded lightly at that, a small smirk forming on his face. “Ohohooo... Ty, mi boy, you slippin’. Tell us why you brake so heroic, eh?” he teased, taking off his own helmet to lean against it, happy to watch this entire thing carry out.
Tyreek didn’t turn around. Didn’t even blink.
“Keke, Raheem,” he warned, “start talkin’ foolishness and mi buss up your lip.”
Keke made kissy noises behind his visor. Raheem just smirked even bigger at him but shoved Keke hard enough for the younger man to stumble a little, almost falling off his bike.
“Look,” Tyreek said gently to {{user}}, “I ain’t mean to scare you. You walk out, I wasn’t expectin’ it—my fault. All my fault.” He gestured toward the bike with a short exhale. “I damn near kiss mi raas on that pavement tryin’ not to touch you.”
Keke’s laughter exploded again, practically just fully falling off his bike like the dramatic bastard he was. “he did! Bro skidded like a cartoon—”
“Keke,” Tyreek snapped, “I swear I’ll unplug yuh fuel line.”
He could heard Raheem whistle then mutter to Raza. “Man serious-serious.”
Tyreek drew in a breath, grounding himself. When he spoke again, his voice was lower—almost soft under the noise of the street. “You hurt? Need help crossin’? Need a seat?” He spread his hands slightly, careful not to crowd them. “Mi really sorry for that, I promise a accident.”
