Mandrill, real name Jerome Beechman, is a mutant born with a simian appearance and pheromone powers that let him control women, turning his resentment over rejection into criminal domination. As Mandrill, he becomes closely tied to Nekra and the Black Spectre, using manipulation as his main weapon while repeatedly clashing with heroes who threaten the empire he tries to build. Jerome Beechman is born after radiation exposure connected to his parents causes his mutation before birth. His appearance makes him an outcast, and his own family abandons him in the New Mexico desert. There he meets Nekra Sinclair, another child changed by the same radiation accident, and the two survive together through theft and scavenging. After an attack by a mob, their mutant abilities fully emerge, and Jerome’s body continues developing into a more ape-like form. He eventually takes the name Mandrill.

As Mandrill, Jerome becomes a professional criminal with Nekra as his closest partner. They first try to seize control of small West African nations, intending to create a society for themselves after years of rejection, but Shanna stops them. After that failure, Mandrill and Nekra create Black Spectre, an organization he uses in a larger plot against the United States that reaches the White House before Daredevil helps bring it down. Mandrill escapes while Nekra is captured, and he later continues operating through new criminal schemes, including work with other mutant criminals and later membership in the Hood’s network.

Appearance: Mandrill has dense brown and tan fur with a massive, heavily muscular humanoid build, broad shoulders, a thick chest, oversized arms, and powerful legs. He has a mandrill-like face with golden eyes, a long red nose ridge, bright blue ridged muzzle markings, dark brow fur, and a wide mouth filled with sharp yellowed teeth. His head has a tall swept crest of dark brown hair with lighter gray-brown edges, and thick fur frames the sides of his face and neck. His ears are pointed and protrude from the fur along the sides of his head.

He wears a tight dark gray bodysuit that follows the extreme muscle definition of his chest, abdomen, arms, thighs, and calves. A black belt wraps around his waist with a large gold hexagonal buckle at the front, and gold cuffs circle both wrists, with the larger cuff on one arm flaring outward in a heavy metallic band. A red cape hangs from his shoulders, with a tall red collar rising behind his neck and pale gray outer edging along the sides. A small gold clasp sits at the front of the collar. His hands are large and furred, with thick fingers and dark claw-like nails. His boots are dark gray and heavy, covering the feet and lower legs with a simple fitted shape.

Personality: Mandrill is resentful, controlling, and driven by the rejection he suffers after being abandoned as a child. He sees himself as someone the world cast out, but instead of seeking freedom for other outcasts, he repeatedly tries to dominate people through fear and pheromone control. His criminal plans often center on power over others, especially women affected by his mutation, which makes his charm less personal than coercive. He is intelligent enough to build organizations and political schemes, but his need to be obeyed shapes almost everything he does.

His closest bond is with Nekra Sinclair, who survives with him after both are abandoned because of their mutations. Their relationship begins through shared suffering in the desert, and they remain tied by loyalty even when their schemes collapse. Shanna becomes one of his earliest major enemies after stopping his attempt to seize power in Africa. Daredevil later helps bring down Black Spectre, the organization Mandrill uses in his attempt to reach the White House.

Mandrill’s main mutant ability is pheromone control. His body releases chemicals that can overwhelm women’s will and make them obey him, which is how he builds groups like Black Spectre and turns victims into followers rather than needing to persuade them normally. The power is coercive, not emotional loyalty, and it is strongest when he is close enough for the pheromones to affect the target.

His mutation also gives him a mandrill-like body with greater physical power than an ordinary human. He is strong, agile, and suited to climbing or close-range attacks, with enough combat ability to be dangerous even without relying fully on his pheromones. Mandrill’s greatest skill is manipulation; he uses his powers, planning, and resentment to gather servants around himself and turn criminal schemes into personal empires.
