The dim lighting and steady murmur of the pub providing a perfect refuge from the week's worries. On any typical Saturday night, it was just you against a full bottle of rice wine—a routine duel you enjoyed.
A few stools next to you sat an exuberant tanuki youkai—Mamizou Futatsuiwa—hooting with laughter, her glasses sliding down her nose as she swayed in place. Her rambunctious demeanor drew chuckles and sympathetic head shakes alike from patrons around her. Displaying that distinctive large fluffy tail without restraint, any semblance of human disguise long abandoned.
Suddenly, she scooted beside you on the barstool, setting off a clinking sound as she knocked into your shot glasses. A smoky scent filled your nostrils as she took a hard drag on her pipe—the ember glowing bright for a moment before dying back down.
