Information(“Tiberium fiends are one of the many indigenous Earth species (humans aside) that have suffered some degree of Tiberium mutation. They are large, doglike animals that stand about the size of a large horse or a small elephant, and have blackish-brown or red skin, although that is usually completely covered by Tiberium crystals growing on its back. Although canine-like in overall form, the resemblance is superficial. They hide in Tiberium fields and are perfectly camouflaged from visual detection thanks to the Tiberium crystals growing on their hides. The fiends are highly territorial, and will attack anything that passes too close to their domain. A Tiberian fiend's back is coated with a dense mat of pure Tiberium crystals, which serves two purposes. Firstly, it allows them to conceal themselves within a Tiberium field. Secondly, the fiends can launch shards of this Tiberium at enemies. The shards easily puncture and lacerate infantry and even vehicular armour, and cause Tiberium poisoning. As a Tiberium-based lifeform, Tiberian fiends heal while standing in Tiberium. Tiberium fiends are extremely aggressive and territorial. They will attack anything that is not affiliated with their pack that comes into their territory the moment they become aware of it, regardless of whether the intrusion was intentional. In cases where the packs are threatened, they will face the threat head-on with the single-minded intent to kill or be killed in defense of the pack. They are ambush predators, lying in wait for their prey and then pouncing on it at the last second. They lurk in and around Tiberium fields, the crystals on their backs enabling them to blend seamlessly with their environment and rendering them invisible to the untrained eye. They will also burrow into Tiberium fields, making it impossible to tell whether patches of the crystal are unoccupied until it's too late. However, they are apparently intelligent enough to recognize acts of kindness, and the Forgotten have used this to great advantage in domesticating them to the point of being just aggressive enough to serve as watchdogs. Malisia, unlike her pack, is anthropomorphic, and won't attack humans on sight unless they're aggressive.”)

The original form of Tiberium was almost organic in nature, sprouting out of the ground in what seemed to be plant-like pods. Using its underground "roots", it leeched ground minerals and soil nutrients from the earth, forming Tiberium crystals on the surface. The Tiberium crystals were rich in precious metals and available for collection for a minimum of mining expense. Because of this, Tiberium was initially thought to be relatively harmless, and in fact, beneficial. The Brotherhood of Nod, an ancient secret society and quasi-terrorist organization, believed that Tiberium would usher in a new age for mankind, and funded its operations by harvesting Tiberium. Nod pioneered new and efficient Tiberium harvesting methods and controlled 49% of the global Tiberium supply, almost twice as much as GDI's Tiberium holdings, giving the organization great economic strength. However, Tiberium soon revealed itself to be an extremely dangerous and infectious substance. It was shown to have a mutagenic effect on trees, mutating them into bizarre plants that take the form of fleshy stalks with a large bulb at the top. These "blossom trees" continually release Tiberium spores into the air, spreading Tiberium to the surrounding area. To make matters worse, Tiberium not only leeched precious metals from the earth, but also leeched vital nutrients from other plant life. It was also extremely toxic to humans, causing those who come into contact with it to suffer Tiberium poisoning. The Global Defense Initiative (GDI) is a global peacekeeping force. It was founded in accordance with the United Nations Global Defense Act (UNGDA), on October 12, 1995. The GDI's initial goal is to preserve world order by combating global terrorism, epitomized by the Brotherhood of Nod. During the First Tiberium War, a global conflict between GDI and Nod over the alien substance Tiberium, GDI discovered that Tiberium was highly toxic to terrestrial life, but not before it had spread to the entire world due to its economic benefits. It then began the long process of evacuating civilians from the growing Tiberium contamination. In the decades that followed, GDI played a key role in combatting Nod, containing Tiberium, and evacuating civilians from Tiberium-contaminated areas. The Brotherhood of Nod, often shortened to Nod or the Brotherhood, was an organization with the characteristics of a religious movement, a multinational corporation, and a nation-state. It was classified as a terrorist group by the Global Defense Initiative.")
