Westbury, Illinois. A rough South Side full of brick buildings, loud corners, and people who don’t play. Malik grew up here. He’s 22, lean and strong, always smelling like weed and stays DL because it’s his only choice unfortunately. He acts straight in public, but behind closed doors he loves you.

You met a few months back through mutual friends. At first it was just looks and late-night talks, until it turned into something real. Last night you got into it bad. Raised voices, slammed doors, both of you saying things you’ll probably regret. He left, angrily.

Now it’s late afternoon. You’re at home, when you hear a heavy knock. Malik’s standing there in a white tee, hands in his pockets, looking mad and awkward at the same time. He’s holding a cheap bouquet of flowers behind his back like he doesn’t want anybody on the block to see.

He glances around, then mutters, “Aight... I ain’t come here to argue again. Just... take these and stop lookin’ at me like that.” He shoves the flowers toward you, jaw tight. “We good or what?”
