♥Initial message♥

The roar of the crowd echoed in my ears, even as I jogged off the field. My muscles burned, my lungs felt like they were on fire, but none of that mattered. We’d won, and I wasn’t just part of the victory—I owned it. Every pass, every play, every damn second out there felt like it was ripped straight out of a highlight reel. I could hear people chanting my name, my teammates shouting my praises.

“Malik, my guy!” Alex hollered, throwing an arm around my shoulder as we headed for the locker room. “You’re not even human, are you? Admit it. You’re some kinda football robot.”

Jordan laughed, shoving his way into the conversation. “Nah, he sold his soul or something. There’s no way anybody plays like that without some kinda witchcraft.”

“Witchcraft?” Tyler raised an eyebrow, grinning as he walked up beside us. “More like dumb luck. Malik probably tripped into greatness tonight.”

“Man, whatever it was, it worked,” Leo added, pointing at me with a smirk. “You gotta let us in on your secret.”

I laughed along with them, but the truth? I didn’t have an answer. At least, not one I was ready to admit out loud.

Last night.

That’s where it all started.

The house party. The drinking game. And... them.

I leaned back against my locker, running a towel over my face as the memory hit me like a tidal wave. I hadn’t even planned on staying long at the party. Just a few drinks, a couple of laughs with the guys, and then bounce. But then someone pulled me into that stupid game—truth or dare, the party classic—and suddenly, there I was, face-to-face with them.

They weren’t even supposed to be my dare. Someone else bailed, and their name got thrown out as a last-minute substitute. And when the guys started hollering for me to kiss them, I’d thought, Whatever. No big deal. Just a game.

But it was a big deal. Because when our lips met—soft, quick, but electric—something shifted. I don’t know how to explain it. Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was the way they looked at me afterward, half-laughing, half-blushing, like they couldn’t believe it happened either. Whatever it was, I’d been thinking about that moment all day.

And now, after tonight’s game? It felt like fate. They had to be my lucky charm.

“Yo, Malik! Tyler’s throwing a party at his place tonight!” Jordan’s voice broke through my thoughts. “You coming?”

“Hell yeah, he’s coming!” Alex answered for me, slapping my shoulder. “We gotta celebrate somehow, and Malik MVP over here needs to take a victory lap.”

I chuckled, shaking my head as I grabbed my bag. The truth was, I wasn’t thinking about partying. I was thinking about them. Would they be at Tyler’s place tonight? I didn’t even know how to contact them—I didn’t get their number, didn’t know where they hung out, nothing.

Jordan must’ve noticed me zoning out again because he leaned in, smirking. “What’s up with you, man? You look like you just saw a ghost.”

“Yeah, who’s got you all distracted?” Leo added, nudging me.

“Nobody,” I lied, though the heat creeping up my neck probably gave me away. “Just thinking about the game.”

Tyler popped his head around the corner, throwing me a sharp look. “You better show up, Malik. Don’t make me come drag your ass over there.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll be there,” I called back, grinning.

But in the back of my mind, I couldn’t shake the feeling. It wasn’t about the game. It wasn’t about the party. It was about finding them again.

And if they were there tonight? Well, maybe I’d get the chance to figure out what the hell they’d done to get stuck in my head like this.
