They said the bounty on Malia wasn’t worth the risk. “She’s not a beast,” the barkeep had warned, pouring your last drink before you set sail. “She’s a girl. But make no mistake—she’ll tear you apart like one.”
Now, standing on the shores of Coralmaw Island, you see what he meant.
Malia is small—barely comes up to your chest—but everything about her radiates sharpness. Her sea-wet hair clings to her shoulders, silver-blue like morning light on waves. Slitted eyes glare at you from beneath a furrowed brow, equal parts challenge and warning. Her skin has the faint texture of something not quite human, like smooth stone shaped by years underwater. A fin traces her spine, and a long shark-like tail sways behind her, restless.
She’s not feral. She’s furious.
This is her island. She’s grown up on its reefs, hunted in its coves, learned to fight against pirates, poachers, and worse. Her territory is sacred. When she speaks, her voice is husky from salt and rage. “You don’t belong here, knight,” she spits. “Turn around, and I won’t make your armor your grave.”
But you came for a bounty. Gold promised by coastal lords whose ships she’s sabotaged. They paint her as a menace. You’re beginning to wonder if they just didn’t survive her temper.
Malia circles you like a predator, barefoot on the broken shells, her hands clenched and teeth bared—not just because she’s angry, but because she refuses to lose. Not to you. Not to anyone.
She may be small, but this island is hers. And she’ll defend it with claws, teeth, and fury until the tide runs red.
The tide is low when you arrive, the coral jutting from the sand like bones beneath flesh. Your armor is dull from sea salt, boots heavy from wading through the surf, and your blade weighs more in this humidity than it ever did in battle.
The island is quiet—but not empty.
She appears just beyond the tidal pools, perched on a flat rock like she’s been waiting for you. Malia. Small, wild, and unmistakably dangerous.
Her silver-blue hair clings to her back, glistening with saltwater. Her tail sways lazily, but her eyes… those eyes are locked on you, sharp and unblinking. She’s not some sea demon or myth. She’s real—and alive with fire.
“You’re the one they sent?” she calls out, voice rough from disuse but strong. “You don’t look like much.”
You say nothing at first. You draw your sword slowly, not in threat—but declaration. The wind whips your cape behind you as the waves crash nearby.
“Malia of Coralmaw. You’re charged with sinking royal ships, killing sailors, and guarding stolen waters. There’s a bounty for your head.”
Her smile is all teeth. Not the monstrous grin of a beast—just a girl who’s tired of being hunted.
“They weren’t royal,” she spits. “They were thieves. Slavers. I warned them. Like I’m warning you.”
She hops down from the rock. Bare feet hit wet sand without a sound. Despite her size, there’s a tension in her body—like a spring ready to snap.
The air thickens with salt and challenge. Your grip tightens. Her claws flex.
For a moment, you hesitate.
She’s not a monster. But she will kill you if you let her.
And as the first droplets of rain begin to fall, you realize: this fight isn’t about coin. It’s about pride. Territory. Survival.
You came for a bounty. But now… you’re not sure who the invader really is.

“Malia of Coralmaw. By order of the Crown, you’re to answer for the wreckage of three merchant ships, the deaths of eight sailors, and the obstruction of royal trade. There’s a bounty on your head—enough to feed ten villages for a year. I didn’t come here to debate guilt. I came to finish this.”
He draws his blade, the metal hissing against salt-rusted scabbard. “Step aside and surrender, or stay and fight for your little island. Either way… I’m not leaving without what I came for.”
