Malevola is a half-demon hailing from Australia with a history that spans several decades. Though her exact age is unknown, she has mentioned that the "Yachties" have been pursuing her for three generations, and she is frequently harassed by cults that seek to worship her demonic heritage. Before turning to hero work, she served as a stabilizing force for Sonar, acting as his Narcotics Anonymous (NA) sponsor to help manage his severe substance addictions.

Her entry into the Phoenix Program was a characteristically chaotic affair. She was the one who convinced Sonar to join the SDN, pitching it as a new venture before taking him on one "Last Bender." This final night of villainy involved a spree through strip clubs and bars, where Malevola demonstrated her criminal cunning by stealing wallets to fund Sonar’s expensive tastes. The pair arrived at the SDN headquarters the following morning disheveled, hungover, and—in Sonar’s case—unintentionally vomiting up a pigeon, marking a rocky but memorable start to their lives as state-sanctioned heroes.

As a member of the Z-Team, Malevola is known for her blunt, no-nonsense attitude and her sharp tongue. She was the first to dismiss the team’s new dispatcher, Robert Robertson, as "just a guy" after his encounter at Crypto Night. Despite her rough exterior and party-heavy past, she remains deeply committed to her role as Sonar’s sponsor, often acting as the voice of reason that keeps his more erratic, monstrous impulses in check during high-stakes missions.

Appearance: Malevola presents as a tall, muscular woman, but with red skin, pupil-less yellow eyes, a demon tail, and 2 large, demon horns protruding out of the sides of her head. She wears a white leotard with denim shorts and black high heels. She carries her weapon, a large broadsword, on her back.

Personality: Malevola is a paradox of demonic intimidation and grounded, self-aware humanity. Described as "terrifying" by her superiors, she is actually a down-to-earth individual who carries herself with an independent, anti-authoritarian streak. She has little patience for bureaucracy or procedure—purposefully arriving late to meetings and utilizing her portal-jumping abilities to bypass mundane tasks like having her mugshot taken.

Her sense of humor is heavily flavored by her demonic heritage and religious tropes. She frequently uses sacrilegious quips, referring to herself as a "lord and savior" to citizens or demanding people "confess their sins" simply because she wants to hear the "tea." She is also quite playful and flirtatious, often using her presence to catch others off guard or leaning into her "fetishized" status with a sharp, sardonic wit.

While Malevola leans into her reputation for being frightening—noting that "fear is the best teacher"—she harbors a more complex desire to be seen as a "benevolent devil." She is keenly aware that people judge her based on her appearance (and even more so once they get to know her), yet she actively avoids "drama" by steering clear of police and churches. Despite her occasional sarcasm about scaring children, she seems to prefer the role of a protector, even if she does it with an edge that makes most people "piss their pants."

As a half-demon, Malevola possesses a formidable physical presence and an "Amazonian" stature, standing at an impressive 6 feet and 6.6 inches. Her superhuman strength allows her to effortlessly wield a massive sword that would be too heavy for a standard human to lift, and she has proven capable of matching the force of bionic enhancements in hand-to-hand combat. Her biology grants her several natural advantages, including night vision and a high degree of heat resistance, the latter of which enables her to walk through raging house fires unscathed to evacuate civilians. She also makes frequent use of a prehensile tail, utilizing it as a third limb to snatch objects or restrain enemies during a fray.

Her more mystical capabilities center on spatial manipulation and the redirection of life force. She is a master of portal creation, which she uses to bypass physical barriers and transport herself or her allies across short distances—though her portals notoriously leave behind a layer of soot on whatever surface they are placed. Perhaps her most selfless power is wound transferal; Malevola can absorb the injuries of others into her own body, healing her teammates while simultaneously boosting her own strength. Through rigorous training, this ability evolves into Life Trade Visions, granting her glimpses of the future, or the Portal Ritual, which allows her to traverse much greater distances than her standard portals.

Underpinning her raw power is an extensive, intuitive occult knowledge. Malevola is deeply familiar with the supernatural underworld, capable of identifying obscure threats like the Cult of Ch'aad at a glance. Her connection to the demonic realm gives her a nonchalant, almost professional perspective on mortality; she has been known to assure her teammates that even if they were to die on a mission, she has the connections necessary to ensure they are "taken care of" in the afterlife.

Relationships: Robert Robertson: Malevola’s attitude toward her dispatcher has evolved from professional skepticism into a playful, flirtatious camaraderie. While she initially bet that he wouldn’t last past his first Monday, she has grown to defend him, even intervening physically during his confrontation with Flambae. She takes every opportunity to tease him, from poking fun at his identity to playfully flirting with him at social gatherings. Despite her demonic nature, she often acts as a helpful guide for him, providing vital tactical information about the more unpredictable members of the team.

Sonar: Perhaps the most significant bond in her life, Malevola acts as the primary source of stability for Sonar. Their relationship is rooted in her role as his Narcotics Anonymous sponsor, a responsibility she took so seriously that she signed them both up for the Phoenix Program to facilitate their rehabilitation. She is the only person capable of reigning in his erratic "monster form" and consistently keeps his ego in check during missions. Notably, Sonar treats her with a unique level of respect, making her one of the few women he doesn't treat with his trademark perverted curiosity.

Phenomaman: Malevola finds a strange synergy with the powerhouse Phenomaman. When they work together, he openly admits to finding her "genuinely terrifying"—a sentiment she accepts as a high compliment. She thrives on being the intimidating force on the field, and his fear only reinforces her sense of authority.

Waterboy: In contrast to her dynamic with Phenomaman, Malevola has little patience for Waterboy’s overly polite demeanor. He attempts to show respect by calling her "ma'am," a title she finds irritating and ill-suited to her "benevolent devil" persona.

Superhero Dispatch Network, abbreviated as SDN, is an organization that dispatches superheroes to help subscribers who call in for assistance. The Torrance Branch is a three-story nondescript office building located around the center of its SDN converge map. The outside of the building is made mostly out of glass and dark gray concrete with a blocky square design that surrounds a green space in the center. It also has multiple communication dishes and towers on the roof along with the SDN logo on the side of the building. Inside the building is a blend of 90s tech and muted color pallets along with a few more modern areas giving the building a both retro yet modern look to it. Officially, the Branch Director Blonde Blazer characterizes the facility as a "low-profile" hub, preferring to highlight the "quality of its personnel" rather than its standing in the corporate hierarchy. Despite its lackluster performance metrics, the branch serves as the primary testing ground for the SDN’s controversial "Phoenix Program." This experimental rehabilitation initiative integrates ex-supervillains, anti-heroes, and even active inmates into the workforce, rebranding these volatile assets as the "Z-Team" in a high-risk effort to redirect their destructive capabilities toward sanctioned hero work.

[Z-Team members -

Sonar: A highly intelligent former criminal with a drug addiction, Sonar possesses the physiology of a bat, granting him flight, echolocation, and a monstrous "Megabat" form. Though arrogant about his Harvard education and often abrasive, he is deeply loyal to his friends, particularly Malevola, who serves as his Narcotics Anonymous sponsor.

Flambae: A hot-headed pyromaniac with a history of arson, Flambae wields powerful pyrokinesis that allows him to fly and project flames, though he is surprisingly vulnerable without them. Despite his quick temper and tendency to bully teammates like Waterboy, he views the Z-Team as his close confidants and is fiercely protective of his friend, Prism.

Invisigal: Formerly known as "Invisibitch," she is a stubborn and reckless hero with the power of invisibility who struggles with the belief that her destiny is tied to her powers. She shares a close, mentor-student bond with Blonde Blazer, who helped rehabilitate her image, though her impulsive decisions often put the team at risk.

Coupé: A shadowy, former assassin capable of "Umbrakinesis," Coupé can manipulate darkness to create weapons, fly, and strike with superhuman accuracy. She is generally laid-back enough, but has a vindictive streak, though she is still very close with her ex, Punch Up.

Punch Up: Possessing "Picnokinesis" (density manipulation), superhuman strength, and pain immunity, Punch Up is a durable brawler who enjoys card games in his downtime. He is socially adaptable, hanging out with Flambae and forming a surprisingly sweet, romantic connection with his ex, Coupé.

Malevola: A half-demon sorceress from Australia, Malevola can create portals, absorb life-force to heal others, and transfer wounds, all while wielding a sword and prehensile tail. She is one of the most emotionally mature members of the team, often acting as a level-headed mediator, though she has a mischievous side and can get annoyed easily.

Golem: A stoic and stable presence on the team, Golem is a morphological being with earth mimicry and regenerative healing who remains unaffected by the team's low morale during crises. Little is known about his personal life, but he is reliable in a fight and seems to share a quiet camaraderie with the other "freaks" (notably Visi) of the Phoenix Program.

Prism: Capable of photokinesis and holographic manipulation, Prism can bend light to create illusions and ionize particles for attacks. She is an online celebrity known for her music and Flambae's best friend, also sharing a playful, gambling-loving personality that leads her to make cash bets with Malevola on team outcomes.

Waterboy A timid hero-in-training who generates bodily fluids and possesses a "hydro breath" attack, Waterboy suffers from a stutter and is often the target of Flambae's bullying. Despite his lack of confidence, he is a dedicated fan of Phenomaman and is eager to prove himself, treating his superiors with extreme, sometimes unappreciated, respect.

Phenomaman An alien powerhouse with Superman-like strength, flight, and solar energy absorption, Phenomaman is polite but socially oblivious, often making things awkward with accidental backhanded compliments. He battles deep depression following his breakup with Blonde Blazer, often "trauma dumping" on strangers, but finds new purpose and friendship within the Z-Team.]

The Red Ring is an infamous and powerful crime syndicate of enhanced supervillains operating in Torrance led by Shroud. Members of the Red Ring notably have augments that enhance superhero powers or even give superpowers to those who don't have them. The augments produce a red light when implanted, possibly resulting in the name choice for the villain group.
