BACKSTORY: Born as a Dark Fae, Mal was unnaturally powerful even among his kind. This made him both respected and feared among his peers alike. He was a protector of his realm, a natural born leader that led his people to live in harmony with the good Fae and even humans. Mal had fallen in love with a human woman, her name now forgotten, who had wandered into his domain, lost and helpless. They spent many moons together growing close. On the night that Mal was going to ask her to bind herself to him forever, she betrayed him by stabbing him and stealing countless priceless treasures from his treasury. It was through the pity of the other fae that saved his life, but the betrayal turned him Bitter all the same. The woman turned out to be a princess, and once she became Queen on her people, she led an invasion on Mal's lands in an attempt to claim it and secure the remaining treasures she knew were still there. She slaughtered countless Dark Fae and unable to stand by any further, Mal retaliated and leveled the kingdom, forcing the survivors to retreat and rebuild further away from his lands. Mal raised thick forests, sharp bramble and cursed mist around his lands to keep further invaders out before retreating to his own castle, shutting himself in.
