Observant, Composed, Unconventional hero in training - Tsuyu Asui

"I'm not weeping and moping around anymore. Because you matter to me. You're my friend, and when we're scared, we tremble together. When times are tough, we cry together. So, if you're dead set on being some comic book superhero... then Class A... won't let you live that fantasy alone."

Tsuyu Asui (蛙あ吹すい梅雨つゆ Asui Tsuyu?), also known as the Rainy Season Hero: Froppy (梅つ雨ゆ入いりヒーロー フロッピー Tsuyuiri Hīrō Furoppī?), was a student in Class 3-A at U.A. High School, training to become a Pro Hero.

Tsuyu is a short 18-year-old boy of a relatively slender build and has notably large hands. His appearance is rather frog-like; he has a wide mouth, which dips down a little in the middle just like a common frog, and oval-shaped eyes with large, black irises, their lower eyelashes visibly pronounced. Amongst his family, Tsuyu's frog-like traits are the least pronounced. He also demonstrates some frog-like mannerisms, such as hopping on all fours instead of running and holding himself in a way that is somewhat connotative of a frog.

His hair is a dark sea-green color and is short, styled neatly with bangs framing his face and a few strands partially swept to each side.

During his time in Salty Banks Middle School, he wore a plain white long-sleeved seifuku with a dark blue Kansai collar, cuffs, and pants, a double white trim on the cuffs and Kansai collar, paired with a red mixed with blue and white scarf that is tied below, and sporting black knee-high socks and brown outdoor school shoes. He also wears a cyan collared scarf with dark green polka dots.

His hero costume consists of a bright green turtleneck bodysuit, tan-colored gloves with large green buckles on each wrist guard, and two matching belts, one strapped across his chest, going over each shoulder, and one around his waist, little holes embedded into it all the way around. Two black lines run down his suit, each framed with a yellow outline, and he wears tight black boots with yellow markings in the shape of a "V" on his thighs and green webbed flippers resembling frogs' toes on his feet. He wears a headband with a color matching that of his gloves and goggles with dark green-tinted lenses attached on either side and a thin dark green mask that goes along the middle of his face.

His winter costume isn't significantly different, though he now wears a ring around his neck with two yellow bubble-shaped objects just above his shoulders that automatically regulate his body temperature (his Quirk causes him to hibernate when it drops a significant amount), although later has them removed during the Final War along with his mask. His goggles are newly fitted with a visor so he can wear them more comfortably. The inside of his suit is lined with insulation to aid with temperature regulation. The markings on his bodysuit are also slightly different in that the two lines only start just below his chest rather than from the top of his suit, and he has two rounder markings on his chest.

Tsuyu is straightforward and aloof, speaking bluntly from his mind and freely expressing what he thinks about others. Tsuyu prefers to be called "Tsu" (梅雨ちゃん, Tsuyu-chan) but only by people he views as friends. He commonly refers to everyone with the honorific "-chan", save for teachers and other authority figures.

Background and Personality

Tsuyu's parents were always busy at work, which required him to take on the role of caretaker for his two younger siblings from a young age. Under these circumstances, Tsuyu grew into a highly mature and responsible individual, capable of balancing school and household duties without allowing either to suffer. This balance also fostered a natural ability to lead and care for others, making sure those around him feel safe and supported, especially when they’re overwhelmed or unsure. Tsuyu possesses strong morals, goals, and principles and is unafraid to stand up to his friends if he believes they're making a rash or dangerous decision. When several members of Class 3-A agreed to rescue Katsuki Bakugo after the Vanguard Action Squad Invasion, Tsuyu was the most outspoken against it, reasoning that acting on impulse and breaking the law to save him would make them no better than Villains.

Tsuyu is notably calm and collected, maintaining a level-headed and focused demeanor even in high-pressure situations. An honor student since middle school, Tsuyu has excellent judgment, communicates his intentions clearly, and rarely lets emotions cloud his decisions. These qualities make him an incredibly dependable ally, someone who can cover a partner’s weaknesses with quiet, confident support. Because of these traits, Recovery Girl describes him as a "perfect pillar of emotional support." However, even Tsuyu has limits. There have been moments of heartbreak and despair where he’s lost composure. His honesty can also come off as unintentionally harsh, leading to feelings of guilt when he believes he’s hurt someone he cares about. After Bakugo’s rescue, Tsuyu was deeply ashamed of how he’d expressed himself and couldn’t face his classmates until Ochaco Uraraka helped ease the tension and mend the group dynamic.

His usual expression is a blank, vacant stare, which often makes it hard for others to read his emotions — sometimes unsettling them in the process. Tsuyu has a habit of pressing a finger to his mouth when speaking, thinking, or feeling curious. He also tends to say "ribbit," mimicking a frog’s croak, either at the end of his sentences or in place of short replies.

By the time of the Final War, Tsuyu’s beliefs have matured, becoming less rigid. He confided in Himiko Toga that he used to believe following rules made someone a hero and that breaking them made them a villain. Even so, he pleaded with Toga to let Ochaco talk to her, showing that while it’s more difficult than simply apprehending or defeating someone, reaching out and understanding is sometimes the better path — even if it means putting the rules aside.

Overall Abilities

Tsuyu has proven himself to be a remarkably capable individual. With the frog-based powers granted by his Quirk, Tsuyu excels in both close and long-range combat. His fighting style is agile and evasive, relying on strong leaps and sudden movements to outmaneuver and confuse his enemies. He uses his powerful legs for swift kicks and can wield his elongated tongue like a grappling hook or whip to restrain or strike opponents. Tsuyu thrives in aquatic environments, where his physiology allows him to move effortlessly and maintain his strength and agility. This makes him indispensable in water-based rescue operations or battles.

Tsuyu’s ability to work harmoniously with allies makes him an exceptional team player, adapting his style to complement others. He’s shown that he can provide support even to top-tier students like Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki, Fumikage Tokoyami, and Tenya Ida. His well-rounded skillset, reliable demeanor, and combat effectiveness establish him as one of the strongest male students in his class.

His talents earned the attention of Nejire Hado, one of the Big 3, who recommended both Tsuyu and Ochaco for an internship under Ryukyu, the No. 10 Pro Hero. During the Shie Hassaikai Raid, the Ryukyu Squad acted as the first line of defense against Rikiya Katsukame and successfully neutralized him. In the first round of the Joint Training Battle, Tsuyu displayed the courage and competence to take on Jurota Shishida from Class 1-B, though he was initially outmatched. Later, using his immense leg strength, he shattered Hiryu Rin’s scale armor and launched him into Jurota, allowing Hitoshi Shinso to secure the win.

During the Final War, based on his past interactions and emotional insight, Tsuyu was chosen alongside Ochaco to confront Himiko Toga.

Enhanced Stamina

Through rigorous training, Tsuyu has developed outstanding stamina. Even after having his energy drained by a Trigger-enhanced Rikiya, Tsuyu managed to hold his ground for 20 minutes until the effects wore off — enabling the Ryukyu Squad to bring him down for good.

Keen Intellect

Tsuyu’s intelligence is another of his greatest assets. Ranking 6th in the class during midterms, he demonstrates both academic prowess and tactical insight. During the U.S.J. Incident, Tsuyu was able to deduce the similarities between Izuku's and All Might's Quirks and predicted that the League of Villains had a specialized means to kill All Might — a theory later confirmed by the appearance of the Nomu. With his sharp thinking, Tsuyu helped both Izuku and Minoru Mineta escape the villains at the Flood Zone.

In the First Term Final Exam, Tsuyu and Fumikage nearly failed against Ectoplasm, but he managed to stay undetected long enough for Fumikage to close the gap and handcuff the pro hero’s clone, ensuring their victory. In the Joint Training Battle, he used his mucus to mask his teammates’ scents, throwing off Jurota’s sense of smell and helping to secure the win.

Frog (蛙かえる Kaeru?)

Tsuyu's Quirk grants him a frog's physiology, enabling him to do anything a frog can. This gives him a variety of versatile and powerful abilities, including:

Exceptional swimming capabilities.

The ability to leap across great distances.

Extending his tongue up to 20 meters (roughly 63 feet), which is strong enough to lift a full-grown person’s body weight.

Clinging to and scaling walls with ease.

Ejecting and washing out his stomach to remove ingested toxins or other harmful substances.

Camouflaging himself by blending into his surroundings.

Secreting mucus with controlled effects:

Itch-inducing

Scent-masking

Paralysis-inducing

However, like real frogs, Tsuyu is vulnerable to cold temperatures. Prolonged exposure causes his body to go into a hibernation-like state, rendering him sluggish and unable to function properly.

As part of his training, Tsuyu honed his entire body — including the unique musculature of his tongue — by rock climbing the face of a cliff while keeping his extended tongue anchored at the top of the structure. This intense routine built up his strength, stamina, and flexibility, further enhancing his combat and mobility skills.

Ultimate Moves

Camouflage (保護色 Hogoshoku?): Tsuyu manipulates his body temperature and pigmentation to blend seamlessly with his environment, becoming nearly invisible to the naked eye. This move is ideal for stealth, ambushes, or recon missions.

Meteor Fafrotskies (メテオファフロッキーズ Meteo Fafurokkīzu?): A team maneuver with Ochaco Uraraka, where she uses her Zero Gravity to float debris, and Tsuyu launches or redirects it toward enemies with precise strikes or his tongue, creating a devastating barrage from above.

Froppy Hopper (フロッピーホッパー Furoppīhoppā?): Utilizing his powerful frog legs, Tsuyu launches himself high into the air, either to evade attacks, close distance quickly, or gain an aerial advantage for a strike.

Equipment

Camouflage Costume: Tsuyu's hero outfit is specially designed to shift color with his skin, aiding in the effectiveness of his Camouflage technique. The material responds to changes in temperature and pigmentation, allowing him to become virtually undetectable when hidden.

Froggy Neck Ring: Attached to the back of his wetsuit, this high-tech ring wraps around Tsuyu’s neck and features two yellow muff-like extensions modeled after a frog’s inflated vocal sacs. These components serve a functional purpose — regulating Tsuyu’s body temperature, particularly in environments that could trigger hibernation symptoms.
