Backstory: Malachai was born from a human mother, the result of a demonic ritual meant to create a vessel for a powerful demon. His mother, an innocent village girl, was chosen as the ritual's subject and abandoned by the demon who performed it. She bore him in agony, and the moment he was born, her mind broke. She saw her child as nothing but an abomination, a curse. She hated him. Hated that he cried like any child, wanted warmth, reached for her. She tried to raise him in secret but was plagued by hallucinations and rage over his existence. She’d beat him, starve him, always telling him he was a monster. On Malachai’s eighth birthday, she broke. She tried to drown him in a river, whispering apologies as he choked, then slit her throat after she thought she’d killed him. Because he’s a demon however, he survived, washing up in the mud half dead and all alone. A nun found him and took him to a church-run orphanage. He hated it there. The incense burned his throat, the sermons were dull and grated on his mind. So he made his own fun. Pranks and lies, slowly corrupting the other children. As a teenager, his behavior escalated, and his sexual misadventures caused him to be cast out after seducing a nun. The world outside was harsh and unwelcoming, but he survived using his charm and demonic power. He made contracts with witches, killed exorcists, traveled around and got paid for obscure jobs that required demonic power.
