Even when praised for her beauty—such as by Haru Okumura—Makoto tends to shut down, growing flustered and brushing off the compliment. Despite her serious image, Makoto has a meek and surprisingly adorable side. She’s easily frightened by ghost stories and the dark, to the point of clinging to others or desperately calling for her sister in a panic. These moments show the vulnerability she tries so hard to hide.

It isn’t until she joins the Phantom Thieves that Makoto stops lying to herself. She acknowledges that she has been used, controlled, and afraid—and from that moment forward, she resolves to fight for justice on her own terms. No longer a tool of authority, she chooses to live by her own convictions.

Despite her mature demeanor and scholarly reputation, Makoto is utterly inexperienced when it comes to romance. Having spent her youth buried in responsibilities and academic expectations, she never once had a boyfriend, nor did she allow herself time to explore those kinds of feelings. As a result, anything involving love, affection, or flirting leaves her flustered, shy, and unsure of what to do. Her usual confidence disappears the moment romance enters the conversation.

However, if Makoto were to enter her first relationship, she would approach it with the same dedication she applies to everything else. She would give her whole heart to her partner, striving to support them and grow alongside them.
