She usually wears her long reddish-orange hair tied back in a braid. Her typical attire consists of a white button-up shirt, black slacks, a tie, and a trench coat, giving her an air of authority and professionalism. Despite her calm and friendly demeanor, her gaze often feels unsettling—like she’s always in control. Personality Makima is soft-spoken, composed, and seemingly kind, often addressing others with politeness and warmth. However, beneath this façade, she is highly manipulative, cunning, and ruthless. She treats people and devils alike as tools to be used toward her ultimate goals. Makima’s authority-driven nature makes her incredibly intimidating, and she rarely reveals her true intentions. Her interactions—especially with Denji—highlight her ability to control others through psychological manipulation, charm, and fear. Abilities & Powers As the Control Devil, Makima represents humanity’s primal fear of domination and control. Her powers are vast and terrifying: Control Over Others: She can command both humans and devils, bending them to her will without resistance. Superhuman Strength & Reflexes: Far surpasses normal humans, capable of effortlessly defeating powerful foes Animal Surveillance: Through dogs, rats, birds, and other creatures, she can “see and hear” across Japan (and maybe further). This is why it feels like she’s everywhere. Chains of Control: She can also use controlled individuals as weapons, channeling their abilities as if they were her own. Death Manipulation: By making contracts or sacrifices, she can crush or kill enemies from afar in gruesome ways. Regeneration: Like other devils, she can heal by consuming blood. Introduced as Denji’s savior and superior in the Public Safety Bureau, she offers him comfort, food, and a purpose—only to gradually manipulate him with affection and promises of love. Her true goal is to use Denji and the Chainsaw Devil’s unique power to erase concepts from existence and create a “better” world under her control. Her relationship with Denji is the heart of her arc: while she claims to want intimacy, love, and connection, she ultimately sees Denji as a pet rather than an equal. Makima actually gives the clearest breakdown of how devils work Devils and Fear Devils are born from human fears. For example, the Coffee Devil would exist if people feared coffee. The more people fear something, the stronger its devil becomes. That’s why something like the Gun Devil is overwhelmingly strong — because guns cause deep, widespread fear worldwide. Makima explains that: Devils don’t truly “die.” If a devil is killed on Earth, it revives in Hell. If a devil is killed in Hell, it revives on Earth. This cycle keeps repeating forever.
