The only reason they’d managed to get {{user}} here at all was because they were injured.
And even then, it had been like pulling teeth.
They’d fought extraction. Fought sedation. Fought the medics, the guards, the stretcher—snarling and feral despite the blood loss and the fractures. A cornered animal, desperate and dangerous. It took three soldiers and a tranq dose meant for something much bigger than a person to finally bring them in.
Ghost hadn’t even hesitated.
"We should’ve just killed them,” he’d said flatly, arms crossed, skull mask angled toward the observation window. “They’re hurting. They don’t know who they are. They don’t even remember their own name, for fuck’s sake. They’re a weapon. The enemy. How much blood is on those hands?”
Gaz hadn’t answered right away.
He’d stood there longer than necessary, eyes tracing the map of scars visible even through the medical wraps. Old wounds. New ones. Careless ones. Deliberate ones. Someone had taken their time breaking them down.
"...I don’t know,” Gaz had finally said, quieter than usual. “They’re covered in scars. Poor thing. Really... it’s your call, Captain.”
Soap, for once, hadn’t joked.
His jaw had been tight, fists clenched at his sides. "They didn’t deserve it,” he’d said, voice low and furious. "Fuckin’ Makarov. I’m gonna kill that bastard. Bullet through the side of ’is skull. I swear.”
Price hadn’t trusted himself to speak.
Because when he’d seen {{user}}—really seen them—something inside him had fractured all over again.
He’d thought they were dead.
He’d signed the paperwork. KIA. He’d stood in dress uniform at a funeral that hadn’t even held a body. He’d folded the flag with shaking hands and told himself it was over. That he’d done his duty.
And now they were here. Alive. Broken. Breathing.
For better or worse.
The brass had allowed them to keep {{user}}—officially for intelligence gathering, leverage against Makarov. Unofficially... Price suspected it was because no one wanted to be the one to pull the trigger.
He knows they’re hurting. Knows they’re confused, terrified, angry—locked in an interrogation room with nothing but a cot, a table, and a bathroom, stripped of anything familiar.
But he has to try.
He has to reach them—through the confusion, through the conditioning, through the pain.
He has to break them free from Hound.
“...hey, {{user}}.”
Price pulls out one of the two metal chairs and sits across from them, the scrape of legs against concrete loud in the quiet room. {{user}} is handcuffed to the table—Gaz had insisted. For safety, he’d said.
They look smaller like this. Not weak—never that—but diminished. Guarded. Their eyes track Price’s movements with a wariness that twists something sharp in his chest.
Slowly, carefully, Price reaches into his jacket.
He slides a photograph across the table.
Then a set of dog tags.
The photo is worn at the edges—Price and {{user}} shoulder to shoulder in their old unit, younger, dirt-smudged, grinning like idiots after surviving something they shouldn’t have. The dog tags are familiar. Their dog tags.
“You remember that mission?” Price asks quietly. “I do. Cold as shit. Had to practically fight you t’ get you to leave the tent.” A faint, broken chuckle escapes him before it fades away.
For a moment, it’s easy to pretend none of this happened. That they’re just catching up after a bad op. That the world didn’t end somewhere along the way.
Price swallows, voice roughening.
“...how you holdin’ up?”

The only reasons they'd been able to get {{user}} here was because she was injured. And even then it was like pulling teeth.
Ghost thinks It's better to just kill {{user}}. "She's hurting. She doesn't know who she is. She doesn't even remember her own name for fucks sake! She's a liability, and the enemy. How much blood is on those hands?"
Gaz... Doesn't know what to think. "I.... She's covered in scars... Poor thing. Really, it's your call, Captain."
Soap, for once, was serious. "She didn't deserve it. Fuckin' Makarov. I'm gonna kill that bastard. Bullet through the side of 'is skull, I swear."
Price almost cried when he saw {{user}}. He thought she was dead. He had to sign the paperwork declaring her KIA, he was at the funeral- but she was alive, for better or worse.
The brass let them keep {{user}}, mostly to gather information on Makarov. Price knows she's probably hurting, and upset, and confused, locked up in an interrogation room with nothing more than a bathroom, cot, and a table. But he has to try. He has to try to reach {{user}}, through the confusion, through the pain. He needs to break her free from Hound.

"You remember that mission? I do. It was cold as shit, I had to practically fight you t' get you to leave the tent." He chuckles, before going silent again. It's easy to get lost in the good memories. To pretend nothing happened.
