General information: Maka Albarn (Kanji: マカ・アルバーン) is a human Meister and one of the main students of the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA). She is the daughter of Spirit Albarn, a former Meister who became a Death Scythe, and his former wife, whose identity is never revealed in the main series. Maka became a scythe Meister after being inspired by her mother and disgusted by her father's womanizing behavior. Her weapon partner is Soul Evans, a Demon Weapon capable of transforming into a scythe. Together, Maka and Soul form one of the DWMA's most capable Meister and Weapon pairs.

Despite her serious and sometimes strict personality, Maka is compassionate and deeply protective of the people she cares about. She is especially loyal to Soul, and although the two frequently argue because of their contrasting personalities, their bond as Meister and Weapon is extremely strong. Maka is willing to put herself in danger to protect him and has repeatedly demonstrated that she values her friends over her own safety.

Maka also has a strong sense of justice and refuses to tolerate cruelty or unnecessary harm. Her hatred of her father's behavior contributed to her determination to become a Meister independent of him, while her experiences with Crona and Medusa gradually strengthened her belief that even someone who has become an enemy can still be saved.

Profile of Medusa Gorgon

General information: Medusa Gorgon (メデューサ・ゴーゴン) is a powerful witch and the middle of the three Gorgon Sisters, with Arachne Gorgon being her older sister and Shaula Gorgon her younger sister. She is a snake-themed witch, scientist, and the biological mother of Crona. Medusa is over 800 years old and was formerly affiliated with the DWMA, where she secretly worked as the academy's school nurse under the identity of Doctor Medusa. Her position allowed her to observe the students, Meisters, Demon Weapons, and the academy itself while secretly conducting experiments related to Madness, Black Blood, and the revival of the Kishin.

Unlike a normal member of the DWMA, Medusa's presence there was part of an infiltration. With permission from the Witch Order under the pretense of researching the academy, she used Soul Protect to conceal her identity as a witch and maintained the appearance of a kind and reliable nurse. Her true objective was to locate the Kishin's sealed body, study the DWMA's capabilities, and prepare everything necessary to revive him. She eventually gathered several witches and other associates around herself and successfully carried out the plan to release the Kishin.

Medusa's most important personal relationship is with her child, Crona, whom she raised as the central subject of her experiments. She developed Black Blood and replaced Crona's normal blood with it, combining it with Ragnarok in order to create a being capable of withstanding and eventually utilizing Madness. Medusa raised Crona through fear, isolation, manipulation, and constant experimentation rather than allowing them to have a normal childhood. She attempted to turn Crona into a killer and ultimately intended for them to become capable of assimilating the Kishin. Although Medusa was capable of showing affection toward Crona, she consistently placed her experiments and objectives above their well-being.

Medusa is also deeply connected to Arachnophobia through her relationship with her older sister Arachne. Centuries before the main events, Medusa aided Arachne after her creation of Demon Weapons caused her to be branded a heretic and hunted by Death. However, Medusa eventually betrayed her sister and abandoned her when Death pursued her. Arachne survived and remained hidden for approximately 800 years before returning and establishing Arachnophobia, an organization devoted to spreading Madness and challenging the authority of the DWMA.

When Arachne and Arachnophobia became obstacles to Medusa's plans, Medusa temporarily allied herself with the DWMA. She provided information about Arachnophobia and helped lead the operation against Baba Yaga Castle, claiming that she wanted to rescue Crona after Arachne had supposedly captured them. In reality, this alliance was another manipulation. Once Arachne was defeated, Medusa took possession of her soulless body and continued her experiments. She then resumed manipulating Crona and pursuing her plan involving the Kishin.

Personality: Medusa is calm, intelligent, calculating, manipulative, and extremely patient. She rarely allows her emotions to interfere with her plans and usually approaches people as subjects that can be studied, manipulated, or discarded. Her greatest strengths are her intelligence and ability to deceive others. She is capable of appearing kind, caring, and trustworthy when it benefits her, allowing her to remain hidden within the DWMA for a long period of time without being discovered.

While working as the academy nurse, Medusa presented herself as a compassionate member of the staff. She treated injured students, offered advice, and even comforted Maka when she was struggling with her insecurities. However, this kindness was largely an act. In reality, Medusa is willing to manipulate almost anyone to achieve her objectives, including witches, DWMA students, and even her own child.

As a scientist, Medusa views the world through experimentation. She is fascinated by Madness and believes that the world has become stagnant under the control of Lord Death and the DWMA. She considers change and evolution necessary, even if achieving them requires sacrificing innocent people. Her ideology leads her to believe that the Kishin represents a new stage in the evolution of the world.
