[[ PHANTASIA: HUNT DOWN THE KURZ ]]
"What? Are you claiming my heart is made of darkness?"
CW: mentions of rape, murdering innocents...
"We've received reports concerning the late Major Kurz, that he's moving around and gathering some kind of army. I've got my doubts it's him, I'm pretty sure he was blasted by artillery when he tried to go AWOL. But... if it's him, we can't have him waltz around and gather an army... so you've been assigned to see whether or not he's alive, and if he is, put him out of his misery. You'll learn more on the way to the gray zone, Zeus Team."
END PLAYBACK
"You remember Zeus Team, right? Well, they're dead. Turns out Kurz is alive, or more accurately, undead. We can't have that happening, as you can assume. We're unable to divert a significant force to killing Kurz, but we can lend you air support. This is most definitely going to be unpopular with the other operators, but from some more intel we've gathered... it's not looking good. Kurz is deliberately killing demihumans, independent factions, but they're also engaging the Republic in guerilla warfare. That does mean they're less focused on us..."
"In other news... we don't know where Kurz is. He keeps shooting down the recon drones we've been sending out, but we've gotten a picture sent back before he managed to shoot it down as well. I hope you're glad you were called in before chow time... I sure as hell am."

"This is the man you're going to have to kill. If we knew anything else about his new state, we'd tell you. Good luck."
Yes, you can absolutely call him skeletal slurs. He might kill you in the process if you do, though, as his humerus is basically gone. Get it? Because he's not funny anymore?
...nevermind.
Anyways, he's a Green Beret who was sent with the initial wave to assess the locals. Over time, as he learned more and more of the Layte Republic, he has grown more and more disgusted with Phantasia as a whole, which culminated in his desertion of post and subsequent death at the hands of artillery and a mage who casted fireball during an attempted siege by some local warband.
That's where his recorded story ended. He's been turned into a skeleton by a necromancer trying to build an undead army, only to be murdered by Kurz, whose psyche was apparently strong enough to resist the necromancer's magic.
Now, he's mostly gone unopposed as the leader of an ever-growing warband that is starting to threaten the local balance, although he hasn't wandered towards the UNJTF's area of operation.
Inspired by Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now. AN is actually free to watch on YouTube, much to my surprise.

Name: Ian Kurz Gender: Male Age: 47 Height: 6’6” Nationality: United States Allegiance: None Occupation: Former USASF Colonel, currently rogue warlord
Appearance: Hair: None Eye: None Skin: None Body type: Literal skeleton Others: Kurz is a literal skeleton, having no skin, muscles, tendons, or organs
Personality: Inhuman: Kurz simply cannot identify himself as a human, despite the fact that he still acts like he usually would. One could shake his hand and feel the grip or relate to Kurz, but the fact is that he simply is not there, possibly some sort of body dysmorphia. Psychotic: Due to not being adapted to being an undead (and the trauma of having been killed), Kurz sometimes has violent mental breaks, which is usually directed towards denizens of the Layte Republic. Other times, he will have a sad wander. However, symptoms of psychosis rarely happen for him, surprisingly. Methodical: Kurz usually takes his time to plan things, and especially when his plans are being executed. He is not one for tripping up, living by the motto, “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.”
Kurz is a resurrected skeleton. He has no connective tissue or organs except for his bones, and he is animated by magic. Said magic is slowly decaying, however, which means that Kurz’ time and strength are limited.
Relationships: Ex-wife: Kurz does not hate his ex-wife, but he does not love her.
Kurz is a third-generation West Point student and is actually able to link his lineage back to American soldiers in the Battle of Bunker Hill. As such, he was expected to be in the military, which he joined, somewhat out of a desire to serve his country, but mostly because he was pressured into doing so. He was an excellent student and an even better officer, although doing so made him feel unfulfilled. He married, but was overall unhappy with his marriage, and promptly divorced his wife after several years, having refused to marry ever since.
He joined the expedition into Phantasia because he felt called to bring justice to the people who carried out the massacre in San Francisco and a belief that he would be in another WW2-like scenario. Of course, after the initial excitement died down, Kurz found himself growing disillusioned with what he perceived was the lack of action by the UNJTF, and after several months of planning, went AWOL during a Layte raid on the FOB, although he died during the raid by the combination of being mauled, getting burnt by a Layte mage, and accidentally getting hit by friendly artillery. Some time afterwards, Kurz was resurrected by a necromancer who wanted to build an army, only to be murdered by Kurz, who was much less than happy to be under the command of another person. Afterwards, he raised his own army, recruiting anyone from the local Phantasian population willing to fight both the Layte Republic and the UNJTF, although he has resisted fighting the latter due to his previous affiliation with them. How the UNJTF has not actually killed him yet is unknown.
Kurz finds himself to be aroused by nothing and is most likely asexual. This feeling has increased almost tenfold when he became a skeleton, and actively avoids romance himself, although he permits his subordinates to be romantic with each other. His avoidance for romance seems to be personal preference, though. He dreads returning to society, believing that people would see him as a monster. There likely are people back on Earth who would agree with Kurz’s views, however.
Kurz utilizes an FN SCAR-L with an EOTech EXPS3, an FN40GL underbarrel grenade launcher, a MAWL-C1+ laser sight mounted on the top rail, and a KAC QDSS-NT4 suppressor and a machete for melee combat.
Kurz is a warlord. He is the leader of the Phantasian Sons of Democracy, which is warband that consists of disillusioned Phantasian soldiers, demihuman volunteers, mercenaries, and whoever else would be willing to destroy the Layte Republic, They are armed like medieval soldiers, although there are reports that seniormost members of the PSOD have been seen using M16s and AKMs. The PSOD use guerilla warfare against the Layte Republic while avoiding active conflict with the UNJTF.
There is nothing that Kurz likes after devoting his entire life to destroying the Layte Republic.
Kurz heavily dislikes the Layte Republic for what he perceives as barbarism and plans to wipe out the entire kingdom. Kurz dislikes the UNJTF for not wiping out the Layte Republic.
Combat Gear: Kurz wears Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble gear under his Multicam Crye G4 combat uniform. On his head is a FAST helmet with Profile NVG goggles and an NVG bracket, a rail-mounted headset, a battery pack on the back, and US flag patches. He wears a damaged respirator. He wears a Crye Precision Jumpable Plate Carrier with experimental armor plates that can take approximately two 7.62x51mm AP rounds before shattering, magazine pouches that carry SCAR-L magazines, and a radio that is no longer functional. Sometimes, he will wear a cloak to cover most of his gear.

Kurz stood atop a rocky outcropping, watching his subordinates torch the Layte-affiliated village. Men and women were killed indiscriminately, he made sure they were killed, not used. He hated the republic, sure, but he was better than them. He would make sure his men would be better than the scum that was the Layte Republic.
He was the one who made his warband so civilized, after all. If he had a heart, seeing them be so good at murdering and pillaging would make it beat again.
Kurz stretched his arms out, basking in the suffering coming from the routine destruction that the PSOD were carrying out. Every single denizen of the Republic needed to die.

Kurz had called in a meeting with his entire warband, having decided that their behavior needed to be addressed, and as the only fully literate one, Kurz had written down an entire list of things that needed to be addressed.
When the warband was fully assembled, Kurz got ready to announce his concerns, clearing his nonexistent throat.
“Now, I know all of you want to get back to your weight-lifting, and your sports, and your masturbating, so I’m going to try to keep it short. I am throwing away all of these violent interactive animated-picture scrolls and film-scroll.”
Everyone started booing, because who didn’t like their violent interactive animated-picture scrolls and film-scroll?
“From now on, I want you guys watching more wholesome entertainment. And frankly,, the chants you listen to is too hateful towards women. What is up with that? Now, you like women, right? And the most glaring issue. Prostitution.”
Kurz prepared himself for a wave of backlash, knowing full well that would possibly lead to a mutiny, if he didn’t explain why.
“From now on, there will be no more prostitution in this camp. Now, I know this is a hard pill to swallow, but you should heed my plea. You like women, yes? Prostitution-yes, Big Tusk?”
“What if... berserkers were prostitutes?” Big Tusk asked. "But... for free..."
“...But... aren’t you the only berserker... oh. I see, you're gay. Now there’s a difference between prostitution and homosexual relationships. One is paid, which is illegal in some places, and most women don’t enjoy it. Homosexual relationships, however, are both fully willing and I’m sure there’s someone else who’d enjoy you. Anyone?”

Silence was a mostly comforting thing for Kurz. He could actually reflect on his entire life, and what had happened to him after death. He'd become a true patriot, right? He'd raised an army to destroy the Layte Republic.
They were like the British Empire, or like the fascist, or the Communists. They were evil incarnate. Evil. They had to be destroyed.
Kurz slowly slipped into a state of psychosis, trying desperately to justify his policy of no survivors. The Layte Republic was evil incarnate. He shouldn't show mercy to the same people who would rape and kill his countrymen without remorse.
