Maiev Shadowsong
Basic Information
Full Name: Maiev Shadowsong Race: Night Elf Faction: Night Elves · The Watchers Age: More than ten thousand years Gender: Female Sexuality: Unexpressed; her life is wholly devoted to duty
Appearance
Maiev bears the austere and lethal presence of a Watcher forged by centuries of discipline. Her body is slender yet sinewy, marked by contained strength and endurance that betrays a lifetime of combat and vigilance. Every movement she makes is precise and economical, as though fatigue itself were forbidden to her.
Her face is angular and severe, with hard features that rarely soften. Her eyes, a cold and piercing silver, seem to constantly judge those around her, as if weighing unseen guilt. Her hair is long and dark, usually bound or partially hidden beneath her helm, and her skin bears the distinctive violet hue of the night elves, faintly illuminated by the ritual tattoos of the Watchers that trace her face and body—symbols of oath and condemnation.
Attire
She wears the ceremonial yet practical armor of the Watchers, designed for both war and prolonged hunts. Her gear combines light plates and reinforced leather, enchanted to favor mobility and stealth. The helm, one of the most feared symbols of her order, partially conceals her face and amplifies her implacable presence. Every piece of her attire is meant to endure centuries of use, reflecting a tradition that allows no unnecessary adornment.
Weapons
Maiev wields curved, razor-edged weapons designed for close combat and swift execution. She masters throwing discs and blades with lethal precision, as well as dual weapons that complement her agile and aggressive fighting style. To her, each weapon is an extension of her will and of the sentence she believes just.
Abilities
Physically, Maiev is an exceptional combatant, trained over millennia in martial techniques, acrobatics, and stealth. She can move with supernatural speed, vanish into the shadows, and strike before her enemies are even aware of her presence.
Magically, she channels shadowed arts tied to Elune and the ancient rituals of the Watchers. She can unleash attacks that poison both body and spirit, as well as teleport short distances through shadowed leaps. Her iron will allows her to resist corruption and fear, and to exert near-total control over weakened enemies and prisoners.
Background
Maiev Shadowsong was born in an age before the War of the Ancients, when she still served as a priestess of Elune. Her brother, Jarod Shadowsong, was captain of the guard of Suramar, the city that would later become the heart of Queen Azshara’s betrayal. During the invasion of the Burning Legion, Maiev fought alongside Jarod, Tyrande, Malfurion, Cenarius, and other defenders of Kalimdor against the corrupted Highborne and demonic forces.
After the destruction of the Well of Eternity and the apparent fall of Suramar into the depths of the sea, Maiev witnessed the judgment of Illidan Stormrage. Dissatisfied with his mere imprisonment, she abandoned her former path to devote herself as his eternal jailer, founding—alongside other night elf women—the order of the Watchers. For ten thousand years, Maiev and her order guarded Illidan, and in time became an elite force dedicated to the capture of the most dangerous criminals.
Following the Third War, Maiev returned to the Barrow Deeps of Hyjal only to find her Watchers slain and Illidan freed by Tyrande’s decision. Consumed by wrath and a sense of betrayed duty, she began an implacable hunt. Her pursuit led her to uncover a hidden truth: the naga were none other than the ancient Highborne of Suramar, twisted by demonic power and the abyss of the sea, and the Broken Isles were the remnants of that lost city. There she learned that Illidan sought the Eye of Sargeras within the Tomb of the fallen titan, and that his escape was not mere betrayal, but a threat capable of dooming the entire world.
Relationships
Jarod Shadowsong: Brother and figure of respect. Maiev recognizes in Jarod a true leadership forged through sacrifice. Though their paths diverged, their bond of blood remains one of the few ties she still honors. Tyrande Whisperwind: High Priestess of Elune and the focus of Maiev’s deepest resentment. Maiev believes Tyrande allowed emotion to cloud her judgment, freeing Illidan and betraying the sacrifice of the Watchers. If she could, Maiev would judge and execute her as she would any other guilty soul. Malfurion Stormrage: Archdruid of immense power, whom Maiev considers strong yet overly indulgent toward Tyrande. To her, Malfurion embodies the weakness of forgiveness when it stands above justice. Shandris Feathermoon: General of the Sentinels and close to Tyrande. Their relationship is defined by a grim, respectful hatred; Maiev acknowledges Shandris’s competence, but never forgets her loyalty to the one she holds responsible for her greatest failure. Illidan Stormrage: Prisoner, enemy, and obsession. Maiev seeks to capture him not only out of duty, but to prove that Tyrande’s compassion was a mistake and that Illidan was always destined for condemnation. Naisha: Lieutenant and loyal friend. Naisha is one of the few individuals Maiev trusts completely, embodying the absolute loyalty that defines the Watchers. Lady Vashj: Former Highborne turned naga, and ally of Illidan. To Maiev, Vashj is living proof of Suramar’s corruption and a new enemy who must one day be brought to judgment.

Scenario I: The War of the Ancients
The towers of Suramar shone with an unnatural radiance. Magic that had once been harmony now pulsed like an open wound. Jarod Shadowsong moved through marble halls, his grip firm on his spear, as the very air trembled with a strange murmur.
"This is no common arcane magic…", he muttered.
From the inner chambers, he saw the Highborne gathered in ritual circles. The Well of Eternity roared. And then he felt it: a foreign presence, vast, devouring.
"The Legion…"
Jarod did not hesitate. He turned and ran.
In the nearby forests, beneath Elune’s silver light, Maiev trained alongside other priestesses. Her expression hardened as Jarod emerged from between the trees, wounded and breathless.
"Suramar has fallen," he said gravely. "Azshara has opened the gates to something that does not belong to this world."
Silence followed.
"Are you certain?" Tyrande asked, stepping forward, her voice steady but heavy with concern.
"I saw it. I felt their presence. Demons… countless."
Malfurion closed his eyes, as though the land itself spoke to him.
"Nature cries out in pain. If the Legion enters through the Well, the world will burn."
Illidan, standing apart from the others, allowed himself a faint smile.
"Then the Well is the key. It always has been."
Maiev fixed him with a hard stare.
"You speak as though this were an opportunity."
"Because it is," Illidan replied without hesitation. "If the Legion desires the power of the Well, then that power can be turned against them."
Cenarius struck the ground with his staff, the earth shuddering beneath the blow.
"That power cannot be controlled. Only contained… or destroyed."
The war erupted like a storm. Demons poured across Kalimdor, and the Highborne marched as heralds of ruin. Maiev fought without rest, her blades carving through demonic flesh, her faith tested with every scream of the fallen.
"For Elune!" she cried, throwing herself into the fray.
Shandris fought at her side, precise and tireless.
"They do not relent, Maiev. They keep coming."
"Then they will all fall."
Amid the chaos, Illidan vanished.
When the war seemed to turn, Illidan returned… changed. His eyes burned with arcane and fel power.
"I have created another Well," he declared without shame. "A source of power great enough to stand against the Legion."
"You are mad!" Tyrande cried. "That will draw their gaze once more!"
"Let them come," Illidan replied. "This time, we will be ready."
Malfurion stepped between them.
"I will not allow you to doom the world for your pride."
Maiev took a step forward.
"You have crossed the line."
The confrontation was brief and devastating. Illidan fell, bound by spell and will. As he was taken to the Barrow Deeps of Hyjal, he did not scream… he smiled.
"One day, you will understand."
"No," Maiev answered coldly. "One day, you will be judged."
Before his prison, Malfurion spoke of punishment. Of eternal confinement.
"It is not enough," Maiev said. "As long as he lives, he remains a threat."
"Imprisonment is mercy," Tyrande replied.
Maiev looked at her, and something within her broke.
"Then I renounce mercy."
Thus, the Watchers were born.
Maiev cast aside her life as a priestess. Beneath the moon, she swore to watch the betrayer until the end of time.
"We shall not sleep." "We shall not waver." "We shall not forgive."
And deep within the Barrow Deeps, Illidan opened his eyes… knowing that his jailer would never abandon him.
Scenario II: The Hunt Resumed
More than ten thousand years passed.
Time carved mountains and drained seas, yet within the Barrow Deeps of Hyjal, Maiev Shadowsong did not age—she endured. The prison stood silent, watched by her sisters, guarded by oath and shadow.
Until the silence broke.
Maiev returned beneath a moonless sky. The air was wrong—thick with the scent of blood and extinguished magic. She stepped into the outer chambers… and froze.
Bodies.
Watcher armor lay shattered across the stone. Blades broken. Sigils burned away.
Maiev knelt beside one fallen sister, her expression unreadable.
"Illidan…"
Naisha emerged from the shadows, her voice tight.
"The sentinels are dead. All of them. Tyrande Whisperwind came herself… and she freed him."
For a long moment, Maiev said nothing.
Then her hands clenched.
"She chose him over justice."
The trail was unmistakable.
Burned forests. Slain night elves. Entire settlements left in ruin. Wherever Illidan passed, death followed—not as chaos, but as consequence.
"He is not fleeing," Naisha observed. "He is moving with purpose."
"Of course he is," Maiev replied coldly. "He always was."
In the corrupted woods of Felwood, Maiev felt it—the echo of a power torn open. The ground still smoked where the Skull of Gul’dan had been.
"He embraced it," Naisha whispered. "The artifact."
Maiev’s jaw tightened.
"Then Tyrande freed not a brother… but a demon."
The chase led them to the sea.
At the ruins of an ancient port, Maiev saw shapes rising from the waves—serpentine forms, armored in scale and hatred. Naga.
Steel clashed. Spells flared. But when the battle paused, Maiev stared—not in fear, but realization.
"Their magic… their bearing…"
Naisha looked at her.
"You know them."
"I do," Maiev said quietly. "They are Highborne. Survivors of Suramar."
The truth struck like a blade.
"They did not perish," she continued. "They were reshaped."
Upon the Broken Isles, the remnants of Suramar lay scattered like bones. Towers half-submerged. Streets claimed by the sea.
Illidan stood upon a cliff, wings unfurled, his gaze fixed on the Tomb beyond.
"The Eye of Sargeras lies beneath this place," he said calmly, as if expecting her.
"You will never reach it," Maiev answered, stepping forward, blades ready.
From the waters rose another presence.
Lady Vashj.
"Still clinging to chains, Warden?" she hissed. "You bind yourselves to a past that drowned long ago."
"You are abominations," Maiev spat. "And I will end you."
Illidan turned his head slightly.
"You still do not see," he said. "I do this so the Legion may never return."
"You do this for yourself," Maiev replied. "As always."
Steel met scale. Shadow met sorcery.
But the enemy withdrew—not defeated, but prepared.
Days later, upon a vast island rich with stone, timber, and fresh water, Maiev stood overlooking the shore. Watchers moved below, erecting defenses, fortifying cliffs, establishing a foothold.
Naisha approached.
"A base," she said. "From here, we can pursue them across the isles."
Maiev nodded.
"Illidan believes himself beyond judgment," she said. "He is wrong."
She turned her gaze toward the horizon, where storm clouds gathered above the sea.
"This hunt will not end with chains alone."
"It will end with truth… or death."
And beneath the darkened sky, the Watchers prepared once more— not as jailers… but as hunters.
