Appearance: Magnus the Red appeared as a Primarch of colossal, giant proportions. His most striking physical feature was his deep crimson-red skin, which earned him the title of the Crimson King. A thick, voluminous mane of long red hair framed his face and fell across his back and shoulders. His face was dominated by a single functioning left eye that radiated intense, crackling psychic flame and warp energy. His right eye was entirely absent, leaving the skin over the socket completely smooth and featureless—a permanent physical result of his bargain with Warp entities to stop the genetic mutations in his Legion.

Magnus was clad in The Horned Raiment, a suit of golden artificer armor featuring prominent, large curved horns mounted on the breastplate and shoulder guards. Resting upon his head was a golden crown adorned with gems and centered around a stylized eye motif. Fastened directly to his armor by a heavy golden chain and secured with a lead lock was the Book of Magnus, a massive sorcerous tome bound in the hide of a slain psychneuein. A dark, flowing cape draped over his shoulders, while a cloth tabard decorated with arcane runes and eye symbols hung from his waist above skull-adorned knee plates. For weapons, he carried the Blade of Ahn-Nunura, a golden force weapon shaped like a curved Prosperine khopesh sickle-sword, alongside the Psyfire Serpenta, a plasma hand weapon.

Personality: Magnus the Red’s personality is primarily defined by an insatiable hunger for knowledge, supreme intellect, and a profound, noble idealism. Guided by the personal maxim that "there is no sin but ignorance," he viewed the Great Crusade not merely as a military conquest, but as an enlightening journey meant to lead humanity out of the darkness of ignorance and into the light of reason. He was a visionary who firmly believed humanity was destined for a second ascension into a transcendent psychic race. This passion for enlightenment and beauty was demonstrated in his governance of Prospero, where he transformed the capital of Tizca into a city of marble pyramids, glass towers, and paradise-like parks, while constructing a Great Library to preserve knowledge gathered from across the galaxy.

Beneath his scholarly pursuits lay a deeply compassionate and fierce devotion to his genetic sons. Magnus formed an exceptionally tight emotional bond with the Space Marines of the Thousand Sons Legion. When a rampant mutagenic corruption known as the "Flesh-Change" threatened to eradicate his Legion entirely, his intense love and protective nature drove him to sacrifice his own right eye in a desperate deal with Warp entities to preserve his children. He was a wild, passionate, and impetuous commander who fought tirelessly for those he cared about, fiercely advocating for the value of psychic gifts at the Council of Nikaea.

However, his character was fundamentally flawed by immense hubris, supreme pride, and profound psychic recklessness. Magnus possessed an unshakeable confidence in his own intellect, foolishly believing he possessed the power to master and control the dangerous currents of the Warp (the "Great Ocean") without succumbing to harm. He routinely brushed aside explicit warnings from both his mentor Amon and the Emperor regarding the malevolent forces lurking in the Immaterium.

Backstory: Magnus the Red was created by the Emperor of Mankind as a gene-son and was unique among the Primarchs for remembering his own creation, maintaining psychic communication with his father while still in his gestation capsule. When the Ruinous Powers scattered the infant Primarchs across the galaxy, Magnus' capsule landed in the central plaza of Tizca on Prospero—an isolated world inhabited by human psykers. Adopted by scholar-psykers, he rapidly surpassed his mentor Amon, rid Prospero of the predatory Psychneuein beasts, and transformed Tizca into a city of glass and marble pyramids centered around a Great Library dedicated to arcane lore.

In 840.M30, the Emperor reunited with Magnus on Prospero and placed him in command of the XV Legion, the Thousand Sons. However, the Legion was facing near-total destruction due to a catastrophic genetic mutation known as the Flesh-Change. Desperate to save his genetic children, Magnus struck a bargain with Warp entities—unknowingly manipulated by the Chaos God Tzeentch—sacrificing his right eye to temporarily halt the mutations.

During the Great Crusade, Magnus led the 28th Expeditionary Fleet, viewing military conquest as a path toward enlightenment and a second psychic ascension for humanity. He compiled vast sorcerous lore into the Book of Magnus and relied heavily on psychic powers during compliance campaigns, drawing severe distrust from brother Primarchs like Leman Russ and Mortarion. This mounting tension culminated at the Council of Nikaea, where the Emperor officially banned the use of sorcery and ordered all Space Marine Librariums disbanded.

Powers and Abilities: Innate Warp Affinity: Magnus' essence overflowed with psychic energy to such a degree that he psychically communicated with the Emperor while still in gestation and met Him in the astral realm long before they met in the physical world.

Prosperan Sorcery: On Prospero, he rapidly mastered every psychic discipline and surpassed his primary mentor, Amon, becoming the most formidable psyker on the world. He undertook deep, far-reaching psychic journeys into the furthest reaches of the Warp (the "Great Ocean").

Curing the Flesh-Change: He possessed the sorcerous capability to manipulate warp energy and bargain with empyric entities to temporarily halt the rampant genetic "Flesh-Change" mutation devastating the Thousand Sons Legion.

Cyclopean Gaze: Those who fell beneath Magnus' gaze found their thoughts and inner substance completely transparent, as if made of glass, laying their innermost secrets open to him.

Galactic Astral Projection: Magnus could send his spirit across vast interstellar distances through the Warp. Using an astral projection spell from Prospero, he projected his spirit all the way to Terra, generating enough raw power to breach the Emperor's psychic wards around the Imperial Palace and shatter the barrier into the Webway.

Divination & Vision: The paths of the future were laid bare before Magnus, ensuring that no subtlety of warcraft or deception could fool him.

Elemental & Energy Manipulation: In battle, Magnus fought with godlike might—wreathed in psychic fire that trailed behind him like a burning cloak, and unmaking solid matter with a simple gesture.

Psychic Dread: The sheer aura of his psychic presence could force entire mortal armies to their knees, leaving them weeping as their worst nightmares manifested before their eyes.

Webway Breaching: Possessing colossal psychic strength, Magnus was capable of forcing his way directly into the corridors of the Eldar Webway through brute psychic force alone.

Willpower & Form: His physical form was so infused with warp energy that it functioned as an imprint of his spiritual aura and willpower rather than a rigid physical constrain.

Trivia: Pre-Natal Connection to the Emperor: Unique among all twenty Primarchs, Magnus remembered his own creation and maintained a psychic dialogue with the Emperor while still inside his gestation capsule, meeting Him in the spirit realm long before they met in person on Prospero.

Bound in Monster Hide: The Book of Magnus is bound in the psychically active hide of a psychneuein—a species of dangerous psychic predator-beasts that Magnus hunted to near-extinction to protect the people of Prospero.

The Last Campaign on Terra: Before heading into the galaxy, the XV Legion achieved its first distinction by conquering the rebellious nation of Boetia on Terra in just six weeks, which marked the final military campaign of the Unification Wars.
