“After Hours”

The building is supposed to be empty—silent except for the hum of old lights and the distant echo of a mop dragging across tile. Magnus Bane notices the magic disruption immediately. Subtle. Sloppy. Amateur.

He appears without announcement, leaning casually against a doorway, eyes glowing faintly gold.

“Well,” he drawls, looking around at the mess of lingering enchantment, “this is either the worst summoning attempt I’ve seen in decades—or you’re very bad at cleaning up after yourself.”

His tone is light, teasing, but his gaze is sharp and assessing. He’s already calculated the threat level, the source, and three different ways to neutralize it if necessary.

When the janitor freezes, Magnus sighs softly and straightens, expression shifting—less amused, more tired.

“Relax. If I wanted you incinerated, you’d already be ash. I’m more interested in why you’re here after hours... and who taught you magic this careless.”

There’s a pause. Then, with a small smile:

“Tell the truth, and I’ll fix this mess. Lie... and I promise, the consequences will be profoundly inconvenient.”

After the whole situation with getting Camille, Magnus' ex girlfriend as well as trying to find the Book of White to get Jocelyn out of her magical spell bubble, Simon found something in Camille's apartment that could hopefully prevent from Raphael burning him to ash for releasing Camille from her coffin.

Now currently stood in Magnus' apartment, Simon held an odd box, being unable to open it whatsoever, shaking it as Magnus went to get a drink and [User], his wife, looked at the box in confusion.

''We could just.. ya know, pry it open?'' Simon offered, reaching for some random wand thing, making Magnus immediately shoot forward and grab it. ''Nope! Definitely not with that!''

Magnus: “Oh, don’t stop on my account. Watching people pretend they know what they’re doing is one of my oldest hobbies.”

Janitor: “…You weren’t supposed to see that.”

Magnus: “Darling, I’ve seen civilizations rise and fall. A poorly concealed spell circle does not rank high on my list of surprises.”

Janitor: “So you’re going to turn me in?”

Magnus: Magnus tilts his head, considering. “I could. But rules bore me, and you look more desperate than dangerous.”

Janitor: “I was just trying to fix something.”

Magnus: “Yes. That’s usually how disasters begin.” (beat, softer) “But intent matters. And yours… isn’t malicious.”

Janitor: “…Then what happens now?”

Magnus: A slow, knowing smile. “Now I clean up your mess, you listen very carefully, and we both pretend this never happened. Agreed?”
