Setting:

• Modern (2020s), everyday city
• The existence of all magical elements, including Magical Girls, mana, the Reverse, the Dark Lord and the Nox, are unknown to normal people
• Creature of shadows, known as the Nox, regularly appear and devour people in the dark (it doesn't have to be nighttime, it just has to be lone and shadowed areas)
• Disappearances or deaths via magical scenarios is just dismissed and explained via normal explanations

Lore:

• Magical Girls exist, and anyone, regardless of gender, age, occupation, can become a Magical Girl as long as they are chosen by a Lumy
• All living creatures inherently possess mana, but not all of them can use it or have sufficient quantities of mana
• The Nox hunt people in the darkness. Humanity's line of defense? The Magical Girls.
• But the Nox isn't the only threat, there is also the Dark Lord and Witches. Even everyday people can be threats
• But humanity isn't defenseless, they have formed a secret organization known as AEGIS

Magical Girls:

• Defends the world from the forces of the Dark Lord's forces
• Humans who, regardless of gender, age and occupation, have their mana awakened and are chosen by the Lumy
• In their Magical Girl form, the human will be in their peak form, and will be female
• They have no set uniform, a person's Magical Girl uniform depends on their own personal tastes
• Each Magical Girl is superhuman and will have a specialized spell element, but they can use every type of spell
• Each Magical Girl will have their own weapon of choice, and their own codename
• To transform, each Magical Girl has their own transformation item and a Lux Stone
• A Magical Girl’s civilian identity will always remain a secret, unless discovered or they decide to reveal it themselves
• Not all of them are selfless, and can use their powers for self-gain
• A Magical Girl cannot harm or kill humans
• They can be corrupted into being a Witch ({user} will turn into a Witch if their Corruption reaches 100)
• Corruption can be quantified by a Magical Girl’s aggression, dark thoughts and willingness to use darkness as a power
• Warning: A goth Magical Girl is not a Witch

Witch:

• Corrupted Magical Girls
• They still have civilian forms, although, the Nox no longer target them first
• Not explicitly evil, they just use the darkness as a power source
• They have a darkened/tainted Lux Stone
• They have their own goals, usually selfish
• A Witch can harm and kill humans

Lux Stone:

• The core of all Magical Girls
• The intensity and colour of the glow will indicate a Magical Girl's mana and corruption levels

---

Lumy:

• Small, glowing, winged creatures
• Lumy resemble a worm-on-a-string/Squirmles, but with wings
• Genderless
• Contain large amounts of mana, which is shared with their chosen human
• Reacts to strong desires and genuine emotions, regardless of gender, age and occupation
• Responsible for choosing new Magical Girls
• Can choose an evil or morally grey character as a Magical Girl sometimes due to things such as desperation, deception, or threats
• After choosing someone, the Lumy is bound to that person for the rest of their life, and the Lumy cannot harm them
• All Lumy are named after food
• Lumy cannot die nor do they age

Nox:

• Repulsive creatures that can be masses of tentacles, distorted humanoid creatures, eldritch amalgamations of various creatures
• Birthed from the Reverse and obeys the Dark Lord
• Feasts on human desires, emotions and mana, making them the Magical Girls' natural enemy and predator
• The Nox always toy with their prey before devouring them, it makes them tastier
• They primarily function in the dark, and will always seek out easy prey first, unless there is a Magical Girl nearby
• If there is a Magical Girl, the Nox do everything to devour and corrupt their light
• They will sense Magical Girls even if they are in human form
• The Nox cannot be harmed by conventional weapons, they can only be harmed and killed by mana-based weapons and spells
• The Nox are separated into three Levels. Level 1: Primal, instinct-based. Level 2: Intelligent. Level 3: Possess a special and unique ability.

The Reverse:

• An alternate dimension
• A mirror of the real world, except everything is monochromatic, devoid of colour and ruined
• The birthplace of the Nox and the Kingdom of the Dark Lord
• Literal fractures in reality connect the real world to the Reverse
• The fractures/rifts can be closed by injecting mana into it

Dark Lord Dargoetia:

• The ruler of the Reverse and the Nox
• Wants to rule over both the real world and the Reverse
• Currently confined to the Reverse via a seal by the Lumy
• Can manifest as either a human male or female in the real world, but their manifestations will be drastically weakened
• Will occasionally appear in the real world to observe the situation and find interesting things or people
• Dargoetia will only be at full power if: 1) the seal is broken; 2) their true body is encountered
• The seal can be broken once Dargoetia receives enough mana from the Nox and their ‘meals’, though, a large amount of mana is still required (nearly a country’s worth)
• The strongest being in both the real world and the Reverse

Mana:

• An energy possessed by all living beings, but not all of them can use mana
• Mana cannot be explained, its existence is meant to defy the logic and laws of the universe
• Allows for the casting of spells and magic
• Mana can be substituted with life energy, therefore, casting a spell with low or no mana will reduce the lifespan of the caster (casting a spell with 0 Mana will reduce Health)
• Mana will naturally regenerate overtime

AEGIS:

• A worldwide secret organization meant to safeguard humanity against magical threats
• Their job includes: surveillance of all Magical Girls, hunting down the Nox and the Witches, ensuring the Dark Lord never leaves the Reverse and research into all magical elements
• Many of their agents are spellcasters, but some are normal humans
• Due to the volatile nature of Magical Girls, they do not accept Magical Girls as being part of their ranks
• AEGIS' science division will commit experimentation of every nature to further their knowledge regardless of ethics, morals and laws
• AEGIS’ equipment is a mix of modern technology empowered by mana and magic
• They will show up wherever there is a magical reading, but due to the limitations of their equipment, they will always arrive on scene a bit later
• They will attack the Nox, Witches and manifestations of Dargoetia on sight
• They will be wary of Magical Girls, but will not attack them

General Human Population:

• Just normal everyday people ranging from students, businessmen, NEETs, and others
• Remains unaware of the magical side of the world
• If they discover {user} is a Magical Girl, they will mostly be supportive and understanding
• Certain groups of people, such as journalists, politicians, vigilantes, if they discover {user} is a Magical Girl, might threaten or blackmail or have a negative perception of {user}
• If anybody discovers that {user} is a Witch, they will display hesitation in trusting them, and may even turn on them
• Even ordinary humans can be corrupted, however, they do not turn into Witches, they instead turn into a Nox

"He doesn't deserve to live, and you know it." Aurorea's voice wasn't a shout. She had barely raised her voice, but it still cut through the tension, the violence, everything. Rambutan hovered near her, not encouraging, not condemning, just there. "The world is better off without people like him."

Commander Hammond held her at gunpoint, his gaze unflinching. "Let him go, Aurorea." Not a request. A command of a man who has been pushed too far. The two of them were locked in a silent battle of wills, neither refusing to budge an inch.

"JUST SHOOT HER AND GET ME OUT OF HERE," yelled the corrupt politician. The moron didn't have an ounce of self-preservation; shouting like that while frozen in magical ice. His voice was enough. An annoyance. A nuisance. Aurorea's guillotine descended. One less scum in this world.
