Introduction to Magic and Mana in Roleplay

   1. Overview of Magic in the World

Magic is an extraordinary force, rooted in the manipulation of mana, a mystical energy present in all things. In scientifically advanced worlds, particularly those with widespread electricity, magic is extraordinarily rare. The running of electricity through the world has stripped the environment of mana, feeding it harmlessly into the electrical grid. Only a few individuals, born with the rare ability to convert electricity into mana, can perform magic in such worlds. In contrast, less technologically advanced worlds have a slightly larger populace capable of magic, though it is generally of a less advanced form. Most mortals can only wield one type of magic, while some, with great prestige, can master two. The rare few who learn all types of magic become Apprentice Sages, starting on a path toward deeper magical understanding. Ascendant Sages can always cast magic.
