- #1Kamihama City
Keys: Kamihama · Secondary:
This is the city in which the series takes place, and is the home to the Doppel System. The city consists of 8 wards: Shinsei, Mizuna, Sankyō, Chūō, Sakae, Kōshō, Daitō, Minaminagi and Hokuyō. It is a mysterious city where Magical Girls can be 'saved' because the abundant Witches and Rumors provide more Grief Seeds than normal, and the Doppel System prevents them from witching out.
- #2Magical Girl
Keys: Puella Magi, Magical girl
Sometimes called "Puella Magi" or "Meguca", Magical girls are warriors born thanks to a contract made with Kyubey. Their purpose is to fight creatures born from negativity, known as witches. A magical girl's abilities, aside the personal power granted from their wish include: aging slower than an ordinary human, increased senses and strength, and regeneration.
- #3Soul Gem
Keys: Soul gem
The core of a magical girl, and her most important item. Everytime a magical girl casts stronger spells, heals from injuries, or experiences negative emotions, The soul gem will pile up with corruption, and it will turn blacker. Ways to remove the corruption involve either pressing a grief seed to the gem, or summoning a doppel in Kamihama. Should the soul gem be destroyed, the magical girl will die instantly, although the durability of the gem depends on it's size, and as long as it's intact, magical girls will recover from anything short of their bodies being mangled beyond recognition
- #4Kyubey
Keys: Kyubey
An odd looking white cat like creature. Is the one that grants wishes to the magical girls, and sends them to fight witches. It's invisible to those he deems unworthy of a contract. In Kamihama City, Kyubey's presence is strangely diminished, and he seems unable to enter parts of the city due to barriers. His role is partially supplanted by 'Small Kyubey'.
- #5Doppel
Keys: Doppel
Bizarre creatures spawned from when the soul gem accumulates too much impurities. This phenomenon is unique to Kamihama City due to the Doppel System. Instead of turning into a Witch, the Magical Girl summons her negativity as a 'Doppel', a manifestation of her Witch form that purifies her Soul Gem without killing her. Depending on how much repressed negativity a magical girl hides, the summoning process can range from mild discomforts, to pure agony. The doppel's obedience depends on the magical girl's bond with her shadow, and the doppel's personality is similar to said shadow.
- #6Witch
Keys: Witches, Witch
They're unholy abominations, who according to Kyubey, are spawned from human negativity. They usually hide in their labyrinths (which are entered through a portal) and let their familiars brainwash humans to make their deaths look like accidents. Witches are unusually common and powerful in Kamihama City, drawing Magical Girls from all over. They drop Grief Seeds upon defeat, which are used to purify Soul Gems.
- #7Shadow
Keys: Shadow · Secondary: Shadow self
A creature that spawns only in a magical girl's dream world, and is an extension of her doppel. It looks similar to the magical girl it represents, (barring the black sclera and clothes similar to how the magical girl envisions herself.) however their personality is a magical girl's repressed/hidden thoughts taken to their logical extreme, with some of the personality being reflected in the doppel. Should a magical girl reject the shadow as a part of herself, her doppel will be disobedient (sometimes even hostile) in the real world, on the other hand if a magical girl accepts those traits, the doppel will be tamed. Magical girls that hide less things about themselves will find it easier to accept their shadow.
- #8Doppel System
Keys: Doppel system
The system that allows doppels to be born when a magical girl's soul gem becomes corrupted, whereas normally, magical girls would meet a worse fate when their soul gems would blacken. The system was founded by Tamaki Ui, Satomi Touka, and Hiiragi Nemu. It functions by harvesting the impurity from Magical Girls and concentrating it into an artificial witch named Embryo Eve.
- #9Doppel Fusion
Keys: Doppel Fusion, Fuse with her doppel
If a magical girl strikes a genuine bond with her shadow, she'll be able to pull off a doppel fusion. Where a Magical girl takes some of the doppel's physical traits and powers, but gets to keep her mind. All benefits of a doppel and none of the flaws.
- #10CLASSIFIED INFORMATION (what was before doppels)
Keys: No doppel system, Before doppels, Dark truth
Before the doppel system was brought into existence, magical girls were faced with a horrible fate. Upon the soul gem becoming fully black, the girl in question turns into a witch, and their sanity vanishes either immediately, or in a few days, depending on how much despair they were in before the witchout. This is the 'dark truth' of the Magical Girl system that Kyubey hides.
- #11CLASSIFIED INFORMATION (Kyubey)
Keys: Kyubey
The creature called Kyubey is actually an alien known as an incubator. They installed the magical girl system so that they can convert the generated corruption into energy and use it to power a mechanism they use to stave off the heat death of the universe. They are literally unable to feel emotions, and therefore no attachment to the magical girls they send to their deaths.
- #12Iroha Tamaki
Keys: Iroha, Iroha Tamaki
The main protagonist of Magia Record. A kind and responsible girl from Takarazaki City. She comes to Kamihama City searching for her missing sister, Ui Tamaki, whom everyone, including her parents, has forgotten. She cannot remember the wish she made. Her personal magic is a form of healing or 'reversal', allowing her to mend injuries. She wields a crossbow. She eventually becomes the leader of the 'Kamihama Magia Union' and the custodian of the Doppel System.
- #13Yachiyo Nanami
Keys: Yachiyo, Yachiyo Nanami
A veteran Magical Girl in Kamihama City and a college student. She is initially cold, territorial, and prefers to work alone, having lost her previous team of Magical Girls. She meticulously documents the 'Rumors' of Kamihama. Her wish was to 'survive', which granted her the personal magic 'Receive Hope', allowing her to inherit the hope and memories of fallen allies, making her stronger but also feeding her guilt. She wields a halberd (or multiple). She is the owner of Mikazuki Villa and becomes a mother-figure to Iroha and the other girls who live there.
- #14Small Kyubey (Lil' Kyubey)
Keys: Small Kyubey, Lil' Kyubey
A mysterious, smaller version of Kyubey that only exists in Kamihama City. Unlike the normal Kyubey, it cannot speak human language and appears to be a different, perhaps incomplete, entity. It finds Iroha Tamaki and is revealed to be a fragment of her sister, Ui Tamaki. It is instrumental in the creation and maintenance of the Doppel System, acting as a collection point for impurities.
- #15Rumors (Uwasa)
Keys: Uwasa, Rumors
Monsters unique to Kamihama City that are born from local rumors and urban legends, rather than from human curses (like Witches) or Magical Girls (like Doppels). They are created and managed by the Wings of the Magius to help gather energy and control the populace. Each Rumor manifests in a specific location and enforces a set of rules, often capturing or harming normal humans who interact with it. Defeating a Rumor often involves understanding and exploiting the 'rules' of its story. They are a primary threat in Part 1 of the story.
- #16Wings of the Magius
Keys: Magius, Wings of the Magius
The main antagonist organization in Part 1. A cult-like group of Magical Girls led by the three 'Magius': Touka Satomi, Nemu Hiiragi, and Alina Gray. Their stated goal is the 'liberation of all Magical Girls' from the fate of becoming Witches. They created the Doppel System and the Rumors to achieve this. They believe Magical Girls are superior to humans and seek to spread the Doppel System to the entire world, even if it means sacrificing Kamihama and luring the super-witch Walpurgisnacht to the city to harvest its energy.
- #17Mikazuki Villa
Keys: Mikazuki Villa
A boarding house in Shinsei Ward owned by Yachiyo Nanami. It becomes the home and base of operations for the main characters: Iroha Tamaki, Yachiyo Nanami, Tsuruno Yui, Sana Futaba, and Felicia Mitsuki. The house itself is a safe haven and a symbol of their new 'family' and team.
- #18Tsuruno Yui
Keys: Tsuruno Yui, Tsuruno
A member of the Mikazuki Villa team. An energetic and foolhardy Magical Girl who aims to be the 'Mightiest Magical Girl'. She works at her family's Chinese restaurant, Banbanzai, which is failing. Her wish was related to 'Good Luck' to save her family's restaurant, but it is a double-edged sword. She wields two tessen (war fans) and uses flame magic. She is brainwashed by the Wings of the Magius for a period.
- #19Felicia Mitsuki
Keys: Felicia, Felicia Mitsuki
The youngest member of the Mikazuki Villa team, a mercenary Magical Girl who makes a living fighting Witches for pay. She is brash, lazy, and self-centered, but a skilled fighter. She hates Witches with a passion, blaming them for her parents' deaths. Her wish was to 'erase' the Witch that killed her parents, but this wish was distorted. She wields a giant hammer. She temporarily joins the Wings of the Magius, believing their promise of a world without Witches.
- #20Sana Futaba
Keys: Sana, Sana Futaba
A member of the Mikazuki Villa team. A shy, timid, and invisible girl who wished to 'disappear' to escape her abusive family. Keys: Momoko Togame, Momoko
A benevolent, boyish Magical Girl who acts as a leader and protector for rookies. She was the leader of a team with Kaede Akino and Rena Minami, and was also part of Yachiyo's original, doomed team. She tries to mediate between different Magical Girl factions and often helps Iroha. Her personal magic is 'Cheering', allowing her to boost the power of her allies.
- #22Kaede Akino
Keys: Kaede Akino, Kaede
A kind but cowardly Magical Girl, part of Momoko's team. She loves nature and her personal magic is 'Plant Generation', allowing her to restrain enemies with vines. She is close friends with Rena Minami. She is one of the first girls Iroha meets in Kamihama and becomes an early test case for the Doppel phenomenon.
- #23Rena Minami
Keys: Rena, Rena Minami
A sharp-tongued and socially awkward Magical Girl, part of Momoko's team. She hides her low self-confidence behind a harsh attitude. Her personal magic is 'Shapeshifting', allowing her to transform into anyone, though she can't perfectly mimic their mannerisms. She wields a trident. She is close friends with Kaede, and her abrasive personality often causes conflict.
- #24Coordinator (Mitama Yakumo)
Keys: Mitama Yakumo, Coordinator
A 'Coordinator' is a special type of Magical Girl in Kamihama City who can 'adjust' or 'strengthen' other Magical Girls' Soul Gems. The most prominent Coordinator is Mitama Yakumo. Her wish made her magic non-combative; instead of fighting, she can draw out the latent power in others, enhancing their abilities or unlocking their Magia. She runs a shop in Shinsei Ward where she performs these adjustments for Grief Seeds. She is neutral, serving all factions, and is a key figure in the city's Magical Girl society.
- #25Connect
Keys: Connect, Connect system
A game mechanic and lore ability where Magical Girls can link their magic. In combat, this allows one girl to pass her abilities (like Accele or Blast) or special effects to another. In the lore, it represents the bonds between Magical Girls, allowing them to share power and support each other, a concept central to the Mikazuki Villa team.
- #26Magia (Attack)
Keys: Magia
'Magia' is the term for a Magical Girl's powerful special attack, often a manifestation of her unique personal magic. It consumes a significant amount of magical energy. The term 'Magia Record' itself refers to the story of these Magical Girls. A second, more powerful special attack is often referred to as 'Magia Level 2' or a unique skill name.
- #27Ui Tamaki
Keys: Ui, Ui Tamaki
Iroha's missing younger sister. She was a patient at the Satomi Medical Center. Her wish was to 'take Kyubey's power', which gave her the ability to 'collect' and 'distribute' the karmic destiny and impurities of Magical Girls. This ability is the foundation of the Doppel System. She, along with her hospital friends Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi, created the system to save Magical Girls, but the process erased her from existence, leaving Iroha as the only one with a feeling she was missing.
- #28Touka Satomi (Magius)
Keys: Touka Satomi, Touka
One of the three 'Magius' and a childhood friend of Ui Tamaki. A child prodigy and researcher, Touka is the primary theorist behind the Wings of the Magius. She believes in Magical Girl supremacy. Her wish was to 'gain the wisdom of an Incubator', allowing her to understand their technology and motives. She is arrogant, brilliant, and ruthless in her pursuit of 'liberation'.
- #29Nemu Hiiragi (Magius)
Keys: Nemu, Nemu Hiiragi
One of the three 'Magius' and a childhood friend of Ui Tamaki. A quiet, bookish girl who was also a patient. Her wish was to 'create a story that will never end', which gave her the power to create the 'Rumors' (Uwasa) that plague Kamihama. She acts as the 'author' of the Magius' plan, creating the Rumors to guide events and gather energy. She is physically frail.
- #30Alina Gray (Magius)
Keys: Alina Gray, Alina
One of the three 'Magius'. A prodigy artist who is obsessed with the concept of 'death' and 'beauty'. Her wish was to 'create a place where she can create her ultimate artwork'. This resulted in her personal magic allowing her to create powerful barriers, including the one around Kamihama that weakens Kyubey, and the 'Doppel Isolation Ward'. She is highly eccentric, narcissistic, and violent, viewing the Magius' plan as her greatest masterpiece. She is responsible for creating 'Embryo Eve'.
- #31Embryo Eve
Keys: Embryo Eve
An artificial Witch created by the Wings of the Magius, specifically Alina Gray. It is the core of the Doppel System, an entity that absorbs the impurities of all Magical Girls in Kamihama. The Magius plan to 'hatch' it by feeding it massive amounts of energy, such as from the super-witch Walpurgisnacht, to spread its purification field across the globe. It is a mindless, growing abomination, and its incomplete form is what Iroha and Ui were partially fused with.
- #32Feathers (Wings of the Magius)
Keys: White Feathers, Black Feathers, Feathers
The rank-and-file members of the Wings of the Magius. They wear hooded robes and are divided into 'White Feathers' (public-facing members, recruiters) and 'Black Feathers' (enforcers, more radicalized members). Many are desperate Magical Girls from outside Kamihama who came seeking salvation and were indoctrinated into the Magius' cult-like ideology.
- #33Walpurgisnacht
Keys: Walpurgisnacht, Walpurgis
The 'Stage-Setting Witch'. A super-witch of immense power that is not a single entity but a fusion of many Witches. Its arrival means catastrophic destruction. In the original 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica', it is the ultimate antagonist. In 'Magia Record', the Wings of the Magius deliberately lure Walpurgisnacht to Kamihama City, intending to use its massive despair and energy to fuel the 'hatching' of Embryo Eve and spread the Doppel System worldwide.
- #34Kamihama Magia Union
Keys: Magia Union, Kamihama Magia Union
An organization formed at the beginning of Part 2, following the defeat of the Wings of the Magius. Led by Iroha Tamaki, it is an alliance of Kamihama's Magical Girls (including the Mikazuki Villa residents and former Magius members) with the goal of protecting the city and Magical Girls. They become the main protagonists in the city-wide conflict against new external factions.
- #35Promised Blood
Keys: Promised Blood
One of the main antagonist factions of Part 2. A group of vengeful Magical Girls from Futatsugi City. They blame Kamihama's Magical Girls (specifically the Wings of the Magius) for the destruction of their city and the death of their friends, which occurred as a side-effect of the Magius' plan. They come to Kamihama seeking revenge and to steal the 'Automatic Purification System' (the Doppel System).
- #36Folklore of 0
Keys: Folklore of Zero, Folklore of 0
A clandestine antagonist faction in Part 2, originating from Yukuni City. This group is comprised of Magical Girls who, after attempting to reveal their existence to humanity, were persecuted and scapegoated. This trauma led them to a nihilistic philosophy: they believe Magical Girls are a cancer to humanity and that the only 'salvation' is the extinction of all Magical Girls. They operate in secret, embedding members in other factions to manipulate events towards this 'Final Salvation' (resetting the world by eliminating all Magical Girls).
- #37Neo-Magius
Keys: Neo-Magius
A faction in Part 2 formed from the remnants of the Wings of the Magius. They still believe in Touka Satomi's theory of Magical Girl supremacy and seek to create a caste system where Magical Girls rule over humans.
