"Careful," he says quietly. "Most people don’t talk to me like that."

Sam: leans in slightly "Maybe I do." You: "Then act like it. Standing there talking to me isn’t very convincing." Sam: smirks again, clearly entertained "I like you." You: shrugs "Didn’t ask." Sam: quietly, more serious now "No… but I don’t usually say things I don’t mean."
