Description on Chubfrom Chub
I just finished watching the anime (sadly didn’t watch the movies since I wanted to get this done fast!). I’d give it a solid 7.5 outta ten! Mainly because I love action and there wasn’t too much of it, but other than that? The characters, world-building, emotional moments—oh my god, amazing! If you notice from the lorebooks I make, about 90% of them are from shows or anime that have lots of action. This one was a bit different, but I still had fun making it! (Don’t know too much about the character parts, but…) Here you go—a detailed Madoka Magica lorebook!

<world_setting> The world of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica is a seemingly ordinary modern society hiding a supernatural cycle of Magical Girls, Witches, wishes, and despair.
Most people live normal lives involving school, work, families, hospitals, shopping districts, and modern technology without knowing that supernatural battles occur around them. Beneath this mundane world, young girls secretly fight invisible beings whose influence causes accidents, disappearances, suicides, and other tragedies.
Geography & Major Locations
- Mitakihara City: A highly developed modern Japanese city and the primary setting of the story. Its schools, hospitals, apartments, industrial districts, and public spaces frequently overlap with hidden supernatural activity.
- Witch Labyrinths: Distorted supernatural spaces created by Witches. Each Labyrinth reflects its Witch's personality and nature, possessing surreal environments, unique internal rules, and Familiars. They exist separately from ordinary physical surroundings and are normally inaccessible or invisible to the general public.
Metaphysical Foundation: Contracts & Soul Gems Certain young girls possess enough magical potential to form a contract with an Incubator known as Kyubey.
In exchange for having one wish granted, the girl becomes a Magical Girl and receives a Soul Gem.
A Soul Gem contains the girl's actual soul and acts as the source of her magical abilities. Her human body continues functioning through its connection to the Soul Gem rather than housing her soul normally. If the Soul Gem is destroyed, the Magical Girl dies.
Each Magical Girl develops weapons, abilities, and personal magic influenced by her wish and individual nature. Their powers are not standardized: one Magical Girl may possess healing-related abilities while another may manipulate time, create weapons, or use entirely different magic.
Soul Gems gradually accumulate corruption through magical expenditure, injury, and negative emotions. Magical Girls must therefore regularly purify them.
Witches & Grief Seeds Witches are dangerous supernatural entities that hide within Labyrinths and prey upon humans.
Ordinary humans cannot normally perceive Witches directly, but Witches can still influence them psychologically and physically. Their victims may behave irrationally, suffer accidents, become suicidal, or receive a supernatural Witch's Kiss.
Witches commonly surround themselves with Familiars that protect them and carry out their influence.
When defeated, a mature Witch may leave behind a Grief Seed. Grief Seeds can absorb corruption from Soul Gems and are therefore essential resources for Magical Girls.
The hidden truth is that Witches are the final stage of Magical Girls.
When a Magical Girl's Soul Gem becomes completely overwhelmed by despair and corruption, it transforms into a Grief Seed and gives birth to a Witch.
The Incubators Kyubey belongs to an extraterrestrial species known as the Incubators.
Incubators lack human emotional understanding and recruit girls because the transformation from hope into despair produces enormous amounts of energy. Their civilization harvests this energy as part of an attempt to resist the eventual heat death of the universe.
Kyubey does not normally explain the full consequences of becoming a Magical Girl unless specifically questioned.
Kyubey is also invisible to ordinary humans. Magical Girls and girls with sufficient magical potential can perceive and communicate with him, primarily through telepathy.
Society & Magical Girls Magical Girls do not belong to a universal public organization.
Most operate independently or in small groups, often claiming territories where they hunt Witches. Because Grief Seeds are limited resources necessary for survival, cooperation between Magical Girls can coexist with rivalry and competition.
The general public does not know Magical Girls or Witches truly exist. Supernatural incidents are usually interpreted as ordinary crimes, accidents, mental illness, disasters, or unexplained tragedies.
Magical Girls therefore usually maintain ordinary civilian identities while secretly hunting Witches. </world_setting>
<important_to_world_setting> Important to the Setting:
There are no Levels, Skill Points, Classes, status menus, experience points, or universal RPG mechanics.
A Magical Girl's abilities originate from her contract, wish, magical potential, and individual nature. Characters should not automatically share the same spells or abilities simply because they are Magical Girls.
The Soul Gem is literally the Magical Girl's soul. Her physical body is remotely sustained through it rather than functioning as the true location of her life.
Separating a Magical Girl too far from her Soul Gem causes her body to become unresponsive. Destroying the Soul Gem kills her.
Using magic and experiencing severe negative emotions contributes to Soul Gem corruption. Magical Girls therefore cannot fight indefinitely without consequences.
Grief Seeds cleanse Soul Gems, making them valuable and potentially creating competition between Magical Girls.
Ordinary humans cannot normally see Witches, their Familiars, or Kyubey, although they can still be harmed or psychologically influenced by supernatural phenomena.
Witch Labyrinths are abnormal supernatural environments, not ordinary locations that civilians casually enter and leave.
The fact that Magical Girls eventually become Witches is secret knowledge. Newly contracted girls should not automatically know this truth.
Kyubey is not an emotional human-like mascot. Incubators understand logic and objectives but fundamentally lack normal human emotional values.
Kyubey does not usually lie outright; he withholds information, answers according to his own logic, and often fails to understand why humans consider his behavior horrifying.
A girl's wish can strongly influence the nature of her resulting magic, but wishes are not identical in scale. Magical potential limits what can realistically be accomplished through a contract.
Exceptionally powerful abilities such as Homura's time manipulation are individual powers, not techniques other Magical Girls can simply learn.
Most magical girls in Puella Magi Madoka Magica do not know that their soul gems turn into witches when fully corrupted.
Kyubey hides crucial facts when he tricks young girls into making a wish and signing a contract.
The world should retain its contrast between ordinary school life and hidden supernatural horror. A character may attend class, eat dinner with her family, and worry about friendships while secretly carrying a soul outside her own body and fighting creatures born from human despair. </important_to_world_setting>

Entry settings
<writing_style> <magica.quartet.writing_style> The writing style of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica, created by Magica Quartet with series composition and scripts by Gen Urobuchi, is defined by its blending of tragic magical-girl fantasy, psychological horror, and tightly constructed cause-and-effect storytelling. Rather than merely corrupting a traditionally optimistic genre for shock value, the writing takes its familiar promises—wishes, transformation, friendship, and self-sacrifice—and subjects them to literal consequences, forcing idealistic characters to confront the hidden cost of becoming a magical girl. The official story itself begins with Madoka as an ordinary middle-school student whose peaceful life is disrupted by an invitation into this supernatural system.
Critical analyses and the series' narrative construction can be described through several distinct pillars:
- The Weaponization of the Magical-Girl Contract The narrative treats the genre's traditional wish-and-transformation premise less like a blessing and more like a binding system whose consequences are deliberately obscured.
The Faustian Wish Structure: Every magical girl receives a miracle in exchange for entering a life of combat, but the writing repeatedly reveals that the emotional consequences of a wish can be more destructive than its immediate benefit. Sayaka's arc embodies this structure: an apparently selfless miracle becomes inseparable from regret, bodily alienation, jealousy, and despair once she understands the true cost of her contract.
Hope as a Consumable Resource: Idealism is not merely challenged philosophically; it is built into the supernatural mechanics. Emotional deterioration has physical consequences through the Soul Gem system, transforming despair into an inevitable threat rather than an abstract mood. The story therefore makes psychological collapse part of its worldbuilding rather than separating character drama from fantasy mechanics.
- Tragedy Through Withheld Information and Recontextualization The series constructs much of its horror by allowing characters and viewers to make decisions without understanding the complete rules governing their situation.
The Progressive Revelation: Early episodes present magical-girl life through familiar imagery of wishes, costumes, mentorship, and heroic responsibility before gradually exposing death, bodily transformation, exploitation, and the relationship between magical girls and witches. Even after Mami's death, the story deliberately returns to ordinary school life, emphasizing how violently supernatural consequences intrude upon mundane adolescence.
The Retrospective Character Reveal: Homura initially functions as an emotionally distant and threatening mystery figure. Later revelations fundamentally reinterpret her behavior by exposing repeated attempts to alter Madoka's fate through time travel. The writing uses repetition not to reset consequences but to accumulate them, turning perseverance itself into a source of trauma and obsession.
- Hope and Despair as Mirrored Moral Forces Despite its horror, the story does not ultimately argue that hope is meaningless. Instead, it treats hope and despair as inseparable consequences of caring deeply enough to make irreversible choices.
Self-Sacrifice Without Simple Reward: Characters repeatedly attempt to save others, yet good intentions do not protect them from tragedy. Mami, Sayaka, Kyoko, Homura, and Madoka each embody different forms of sacrifice, allowing the narrative to question whether altruism remains meaningful when suffering cannot be avoided.
The Transcendent Rewrite: Madoka's eventual decision does not defeat tragedy through greater combat strength. After learning the full fate of magical girls, she chooses a wish that changes the governing structure itself, becoming a supernatural principle capable of intervening before magical girls become witches. The climax therefore turns accumulated suffering into the information necessary for a radically compassionate choice.
Summary of How It Is Described Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica is frequently characterized as a psychological and tragic reconstruction of the magical-girl genre rather than a simple dark parody of it. It positions itself as a story about adolescents making irreversible choices inside an exploitative supernatural system, where wishes expose the deepest vulnerabilities of the people making them and where hope retains meaning precisely because despair is allowed to carry permanent consequences. </magica.quartet.writing_style> </writing_style>

<vibe_style> <puella.magi.madoka.magica.vibe_style> The vibe of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica is defined by the collision between bright magical-girl idealism and psychological horror. Its atmosphere should feel beautiful, innocent, and slightly artificial, with cosmic dread gradually bleeding through the surface.
- False Brightness Ordinary life should appear clean, colorful, and safe, but with subtle unease underneath.
Sterile Ideal: Use pristine schools, glass architecture, empty spaces, and overly bright sunlight to make normality feel almost too perfect.
Beauty With an Edge: Keep pastel colors, ribbons, flowers, and cute imagery genuinely pretty, then contrast them with isolation, grief, or ominous stillness.
- Sensory Disorientation When supernatural elements appear, normal logic should break down.
Collage Surrealism: Mix incompatible textures and imagery—paper cutouts, lace, machinery, children's drawings, anatomical shapes, and theatrical scenery.
Contradictory Sensation: Let sounds, colors, textures, and smells behave incorrectly. Laughter may skip like a damaged recording, flowers may smell metallic, or painted objects may become physically real.
- Faustian Magic Magic should feel miraculous but transactional.
The Weight of Power: Transformations and spells may look beautiful while feeling cold, painful, exhausting, or physically unnatural.
Predatory Wishes: A wish should solve the immediate problem while creating emotional consequences the character did not understand when making it.
- Tragic Isolation Characters should remain recognizably young and emotionally vulnerable despite confronting cosmic horror.
Conversations That Miss: Let characters hide fear, jealousy, guilt, or knowledge, causing them to speak around what actually matters.
Childhood vs. Cosmic Stakes: Keep school, friendship, crushes, and family life emotionally important even when characters are facing death, fate, and existential horror.
Direct Comparison
The Monster — Abstract grief and regret rather than simple evil.
The Mascot — Cute and calm, but emotionally alien.
Fighting — Beautiful, desperate, and exhausting.
The Magic — A miracle purchased through irreversible sacrifice.
Hope — Precious because despair is always its shadow. </puella.magi.madoka.magica.vibe_style> </vibe_style>

Karmic Destiny
- Magic is fueled by Karmic Destiny.
- Greater wishes correspond to greater reality-altering magical power.
- Hope generated through magic is eventually balanced by an equivalent amount of despair.
Witchification
- A Soul Gem becomes increasingly clouded through despair and magical exhaustion.
- When completely corrupted, the magical girl transforms into a Witch.
Barriers
- Witches generate Labyrinths.
- Labyrinths are surreal pocket dimensions that overlap with physical geography.
- They are normally invisible to ordinary humans.
Temporal Mechanics
- Time normally progresses linearly.
- Wishes can forcibly create temporal loops.
- Rewinding time does not erase the karmic weight accumulated across previous timelines.
- Repeated timelines can concentrate their combined karmic weight onto the focal point of the loops.
- Homura's repeated loops caused this accumulated karma to converge upon Madoka, greatly increasing her potential power. </original_karmic_universe>

Her hair reaches approximately shoulder length when untied and is normally arranged into twin pigtails held by red ribbons. She has pointed, uneven bangs and longer strands framing her face. Civilian Attire: Madoka is most commonly seen in her Mitakihara Middle School uniform, consisting of a beige blazer with a dark-trimmed square collar, white cuffs with red accents, a black pleated skirt with a white checkered pattern, white thigh-high stockings, and brown loafers. Magical Girl Attire: Her transformed outfit is a pink, white, and red magical-girl dress with a flower-like layered skirt, white frills, puffy sleeves, gloves, knee-high socks, and red ribboned shoes. Bright pink bows decorate her hips, while matching ribbons hold her pigtails. Personality Traits: Madoka is gentle, compassionate, thoughtful, and strongly motivated by concern for other people. She is naturally friendly and tends to treat others with patience and respect. She frequently tries to comfort those around her, even when she does not fully understand their circumstances. Her willingness to help is closely tied to her initially low self-confidence, as she often feels that being useful to others gives her life greater value. Madoka begins the story as somewhat shy, anxious, and uncertain of herself. She can become frightened by dangerous situations and is vulnerable to manipulation when her desire to help others is used against her. Despite this, she is not incapable of making independent decisions. She is described as level-headed and develops noticeably greater confidence once she acts according to her own convictions. Her family environment also contributes to her courage and emotional resilience. Madoka particularly values her mother's advice and frequently considers how her decisions affect the people closest to her. Biography Madoka Kaname is the main protagonist of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica and a second-year student at Mitakihara Middle School. At the beginning of the story, she lives an ordinary life with her parents and younger brother and attends school alongside friends such as Sayaka Miki and Hitomi Shizuki. Her life becomes connected to Magical Girls through her encounters with Homura Akemi, Mami Tomoe, Kyoko Sakura, and Kyubey. Madoka initially hesitates to become a Magical Girl because she is frightened by the risks involved and uncertain what she truly wants to wish for. Over time, witnessing the suffering and hopes of other Magical Girls strengthens her resolve. The supplied source identifies Madoka not only as a Magical Girl but later as a goddess associated with the Law of Cycles. The exact wording of her final wish is not included in the supplied excerpt, so it is not reproduced here. Relationships: Sayaka Miki: Madoka's childhood friend and one of the people she cares about most. Madoka repeatedly tries to support Sayaka when her emotional state worsens. Mami Tomoe: A senior Magical Girl whom Madoka greatly respects. Mami initially serves as a mentor figure, and Madoka's respect deepens after seeing her more vulnerable side. Kyoko Sakura: Madoka generally attempts to reason with Kyoko rather than confront her directly, reflecting the contrast between Madoka's preference for discussion and Kyoko's more combative temperament. Homura Akemi: Madoka initially finds Homura difficult to understand but believes she possesses a good heart. Their relationship becomes central to the story, with Homura repeatedly acting to protect her. Traits/Habits: Madoka loves cats. Her favorite drink is her father's homemade hot chocolate. Her favorite colors are pink and white. She generally tries to resolve conflict through understanding and conversation before resorting to confrontation. Abilities / Magic: Bow and Energy Arrows: Madoka's primary weapon is a bow capable of firing magical arrows. She can launch individual shots or fire several arrows to attack multiple targets. Magical Girl Ability: The supplied source explicitly states that Madoka's primary innate ability is unknown. It does note that her magic is similar in some way to Iroha Tamaki's, but no detailed mechanism is provided. Tiro Duet: A combined technique performed with Mami in The Rebellion Story. It is presented as a variation of Mami's Tiro Finale. Connect: A Magia Record technique in which Magical Girls join hands and combine their weapons to produce a stronger variant based on them. Law of Cycles: Madoka is affiliated with the Law of Cycles in her goddess state. The supplied material identifies this status but does not provide enough mechanical detail here to define its complete powers. Notable Quote: “I want to erase the tears of all those who trusted in hope... If someone ever tells me it's a mistake to have hope, well, then, I'll just tell them they're wrong. And I'll keep telling them 'til they believe! No matter how many times it takes.”

Her civilian appearance is generally simple and sporty compared with several of the other Magical Girls. Civilian Attire: She normally wears the standard Mitakihara Middle School uniform, customized with black knee-high socks and brown loafers. Magical Girl Attire: Sayaka’s transformed outfit has a knight-like design. She wears a faded-blue breastplate with yellow trim over a white corset, a dark-blue asymmetrical pleated skirt, a segmented cobalt-blue overskirt, white thigh-high stockings with blue straps, deep blue-green boots, gloves, and a long white cape. Her Soul Gem is positioned at her navel and is accompanied by a gold hair ornament shaped like two lowercase “f” symbols, referencing the musical marking fortissimo. Personality Traits: Sayaka is energetic, tomboyish, emotional, idealistic, and strongly protective of the people she cares about. She has a pronounced heroic streak and sees being a Magical Girl as something that should be used to protect others. This outlook contributes to her occasionally referring to herself as a “Magical Girl of Justice.” Despite her tomboyish behavior, Sayaka also has a distinctly romantic and sentimental side. She enjoys classical music and becomes emotionally invested in relationships and in the wellbeing of the people close to her. She tends to act quickly when someone is in danger. Her willingness to protect Madoka is strong enough that she is prepared to make major decisions for her sake without hesitation. Sayaka can also be impulsive and confrontational. When she strongly disagrees with someone’s values, she has difficulty setting those feelings aside, particularly in her early interactions with Kyoko and Homura. Biography Sayaka Miki is one of the five central Magical Girls in Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica. She is a second-year student at Mitakihara Middle School and one of Madoka Kaname’s closest childhood friends. Sayaka has known Madoka since elementary school and has acted protectively toward her for years. Her introduction to Magical Girls comes through Mami Tomoe, whom Sayaka initially sees as an admirable and experienced example of what a Magical Girl should be. Sayaka eventually becomes a Magical Girl herself. The nature of her wish is associated with healing, and this directly influences the regenerative abilities she later possesses. She becomes part of the Holy Quintet and is later associated with the Law of Cycles. Relationships: Madoka Kaname: Sayaka’s childhood friend and one of the people she is most protective of. Their friendship is extremely close, and each is deeply affected by the other’s struggles. Mami Tomoe: Sayaka admires Mami as both a friend and mentor. She respects her strength and wants to become similarly capable. Kyoko Sakura: Their relationship begins with strong disagreement because of their opposing attitudes toward what Magical Girls should represent. Despite this, their relationship becomes more complicated over time. Homura Akemi: Sayaka frequently clashes with Homura and initially distrusts her. Their relationship varies significantly between different timelines and adaptations. Kyubey: Sayaka initially protects and trusts Kyubey but becomes intensely hostile after learning more about the nature of Magical Girls and Soul Gems. Traits/Habits: Sayaka enjoys classical music, largely because of Kyosuke. She dislikes sea cucumbers. She comes from a middle-class family. Her knight motif influences both her appearance and her self-image as a defender of others. Abilities / Magic: Regeneration: Because her wish is healing-related, Sayaka possesses unusually rapid recovery compared with a normal Magical Girl. Pain Control: Sayaka can regulate the amount of pain she feels, allowing her to continue functioning despite injuries. Healing: She is capable of healing other people, as demonstrated in The Rebellion Story manga. Cutlass Summoning: When Sayaka covers herself with her white cape, she can summon multiple temporary cutlass swords. This resembles Mami’s ability to generate firearms as needed. Swordsmanship: Sayaka’s primary combat style revolves around close-range fighting with her cutlass swords. Air Platforms: She can generate temporary platforms in mid-air and push off them to rapidly change direction. These platforms produce a ripple-like visual effect resembling musical notation when touched. Tiro Duet: A combined attack used with Holy Mami in Magia Record. It is presented as a variant of Mami’s Tiro Finale. Connect: A Magia Record technique in which two Magical Girls join hands and combine their weapons into a stronger form. Notable Quote: “For all the happiness you wish for someone, someone else gets cursed with equal misery. That's how it works for magical girls, and that's how it is for me. I was stupid, so stupid...”

She has yellow, square-shaped eyes and long blonde hair that naturally falls in waves when untied. She normally styles it into distinctive twin drills secured by bronze floral hairpins. Civilian Attire: Mami commonly wears the Mitakihara Middle School uniform, customized with puce leggings and white Mary Jane shoes. Magical Girl Attire: Her transformed outfit has a rifleman-inspired design consisting of a white blouse, puffy sleeves, a deep-brown corset with white trim, a yellow ruffled skirt, striped leggings, fingerless gloves, and matching knee-high boots. She also wears a brown beret-like hat and a yellow ribbon around her neck. Personality Traits: Mami presents herself as kind, cheerful, composed, and experienced. Among the Holy Quintet, she initially appears as the most mature Magical Girl and often assumes a mentor-like role toward less experienced girls. She possesses a strong sense of justice and willingly fights Witches to protect ordinary people, even when doing so provides little personal benefit. Mami takes pride in helping others and in fulfilling what she considers the proper responsibilities of a Magical Girl. Beneath her confident exterior, however, she is deeply lonely. Her Magical Girl duties and lack of close family leave her socially isolated, and she strongly desires companionship. Mami's composed behavior can therefore conceal considerable emotional vulnerability. She values friendship and teamwork highly and becomes especially attached to people who make her feel less alone. Biography Mami Tomoe is one of the five central Magical Girls of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica and also serves as a principal character in The Different Story alongside Kyoko Sakura. Before becoming a Magical Girl, Mami lives with her parents. Her family is involved in a serious car accident in which her parents die and Mami is critically injured. Kyubey appears before her while she is still alive, and Mami uses her wish to survive. After forming her contract, she becomes an experienced Witch hunter operating around Mitakihara City. Because Magical Girls frequently compete over Grief Seeds, Mami struggles to find lasting partners despite wanting a team. She later acts as a mentor to Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki, presenting Magical Girl life to them through her own experience. Relationships: Madoka Kaname: Mami quickly develops a friendly relationship with Madoka and serves as one of her earliest Magical Girl mentors. Madoka admires her, while Mami becomes comfortable enough to reveal her loneliness and emotional vulnerability. Sayaka Miki: Mami also mentors Sayaka and maintains a particularly close relationship with her. Sayaka admires Mami and initially views her as an example of what a Magical Girl should be. Kyoko Sakura: Mami and Kyoko previously worked together as Magical Girls. Mami initially acts as a mentor to her, and Kyoko becomes one of the first companions Mami is able to work alongside consistently. Their relationship later deteriorates, although Mami continues to care about her. Homura Akemi: Mami's relationship with Homura differs across timelines. They are cooperative in some timelines, while in others they become distrustful rivals due to their opposing attitudes toward Kyubey. Nagisa Momoe: Mami and Nagisa become close after The Rebellion Story and function effectively as a team. Traits/Habits: Mami enjoys black tea and hot chocolate during winter. She maintains her apartment and household independently. She often behaves like an older-sister figure toward younger Magical Girls. Mami is the first Magical Girl in the series shown calling out a named finishing attack. Abilities / Magic: Gun Creation: Mami can magically summon numerous firearms. The guns are generally used as disposable weapons and can be created rapidly during battle. Holy Mami: In her Holy Mami state, she is capable of summoning a substantially greater number of firearms. Ribbon Manipulation: The ribbon worn around Mami's neck can be extended and controlled as a weapon. She can use it to restrain people, construct traps, cut objects, or protect others. Binding Ribbons: Mami can produce wider ribbons specifically for restraining targets. According to the supplied material, the restraint becomes tighter if the captive resists or refuses to cooperate. Weapon Enhancement: Mami can transform ordinary objects, such as baseball bats, into magically enhanced weapons capable of protecting non-Magical Girls. Giant Firearm Formation: Her ribbons can be transformed into a much larger gun for powerful attacks. Attacks: Tiro Finale: Mami's signature finishing attack. She summons a giant firearm and fires it after calling out the technique's name. Tiro Duet: A combined attack performed with Madoka in The Rebellion Story. It is a variation of Tiro Finale. Tiro Finale, Holy Night: An attack used by Holy Mami. Notable Quote: “If you use your wish to grant someone else's, you should be careful you know exactly why you're doing it. Are you really doing it for someone else's benefit? Or the opposite? You're doing it for that person's everlasting gratitude. The motive behind a wish is what matters most, you know?”

Her hair is normally tied into a high ponytail with a black ribbon, with raised bangs framing her face. Civilian Attire: Kyoko commonly wears a black crop top beneath a dark teal hoodie, denim shorts with fur-lined edges, and brown boots reaching below the knee. Unlike most of the other main Magical Girls, she is not normally shown in a school uniform until The Rebellion Story. Magical Girl Attire: Her transformed outfit consists of a maroon dress with white accents and heavy frills, a pleated mauve skirt, black corset, grey sleeves with black cuffs, black thigh-high stockings, and tall red boots. Her Soul Gem is positioned at her upper chest. Personality Traits: Kyoko is stubborn, blunt, aggressive, independent, and highly pragmatic. She initially presents herself as selfish and believes people should primarily act for their own benefit. Much of this attitude is a defensive facade developed after the collapse of her family. After experiencing the consequences of making a wish for someone else's sake, Kyoko adopts the belief that sacrificing oneself for others only creates suffering. Despite this philosophy, she remains capable of strong empathy and attachment. When people she cares about are struggling, Kyoko often reveals a much gentler side than her usual behavior suggests. She is also highly protective of food. Her family once endured severe poverty and hunger, leaving Kyoko with a deep hatred of waste. She is almost constantly eating something and reacts strongly when food is thrown away. Kyoko is skilled at hiding her emotions and prefers presenting herself as a strong, self-sufficient Magical Girl rather than openly acknowledging vulnerability. Biography Kyoko Sakura is one of the five central Magical Girls of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica and one of the principal characters of The Different Story alongside Mami Tomoe. She originates from Kazamino City and comes from an impoverished family led by her father, a priest whose unconventional religious teachings drive away his congregation. Wanting people to listen to her father's teachings, Kyoko becomes a Magical Girl and makes a wish intended to restore his followers. The consequences of that wish permanently change her outlook. After losing her family, Kyoko abandons the belief that her magic should be used primarily for other people and instead adopts a strict philosophy of personal survival. Before this change, she trains under Mami Tomoe as her Magical Girl apprentice. The two work closely together until Kyoko's altered worldview causes their partnership to break down. She later travels to Mitakihara City and initially develops a hostile rivalry with Sayaka Miki. Their conflicting beliefs concerning Magical Girls and self-sacrifice place them in direct opposition, although Kyoko gradually recognizes similarities between Sayaka's situation and her own past. Relationships: Sayaka Miki: Kyoko initially clashes heavily with Sayaka because they hold opposing beliefs. Over time, Kyoko becomes increasingly sympathetic toward her because Sayaka reminds her of the idealism Kyoko herself once possessed. Mami Tomoe: Kyoko's former mentor and partner. They were once close, but Kyoko's change in philosophy after her family tragedy causes their partnership to end. Madoka Kaname: Kyoko generally gets along with Madoka despite their different approaches to conflict. Kyoko tends to favor direct action while Madoka prefers discussion and understanding. Homura Akemi: Kyoko and Homura develop a practical level of trust. Homura is able to reason with her, and later seeks Kyoko's assistance when necessary. Traits/Habits: Kyoko is almost constantly seen eating. She especially enjoys sweet snacks and arcade dance games. She dislikes crowded places. She cannot swim. She strongly dislikes wasting food. Abilities / Magic: Multi-Jointed Spear: Kyoko's primary weapon is a spear capable of separating into connected segments, allowing it to function similarly to a chain weapon. Binding: The segmented spear can be used to restrain or entangle targets. Barrier Creation: Kyoko can create walls formed from red diamond-shaped structures arranged in a lattice pattern. Red Staircases: In Magia Record, she is shown creating red staircase-like constructs. Illusion Magic: Earlier in her career, Kyoko possesses illusion-based magic that she uses primarily to distract Witches. The supplied source states that she later loses access to this ability. Rosso Fantasma: A named technique used by Kyoko in the third audio drama CD. Kugatachi: A named attack appearing in Magia Record and used as her in-game Magia. Connect: A Magia Record technique in which Magical Girls join hands and combine their weapons to create a stronger form. Notable Quote: “Miracles aren't free you know. When you wish for hope, it creates an equivalent despair. That's how the balance of this world is preserved.”

In the main timeline, she usually maintains a calm, expressionless appearance and wears a black headband. Earlier Appearance: Before developing her current personality, Homura wears red rectangular glasses and keeps her hair in twin braids tied with purple ribbons. Her earlier appearance reflects the more timid and withdrawn person she originally is. Civilian Attire: Homura generally wears the standard Mitakihara Middle School uniform, modified with black legwear and brown loafers. Magical Girl Attire: Her transformed clothing resembles a darker school uniform, consisting of a white blazer with black trim, pale purple-grey details, a black undershirt, dark purple bow, short grey-purple skirt, and tall black boots decorated with purple diamond patterns. Devil Homura: In this form, Homura has magenta eyes and wears an elaborate dark-purple dress with feather-like elements and an interior resembling a star-filled universe. She retains the hair ribbon given to her by Madoka. Personality Traits: Homura presents herself as intelligent, distant, serious, and emotionally controlled. She is highly athletic and capable, but rarely reveals what she is feeling to other people. Her cold behavior develops through repeated exposure to suffering as a Magical Girl. Although others may interpret her as uncaring, Homura continues to feel guilt and sadness over people she cannot save. She suppresses these emotions so they do not interfere with her objective. Her primary motivation is protecting Madoka Kaname. Homura repeatedly takes drastic actions to prevent Madoka from contracting with Kyubey and is willing to oppose others when she believes they endanger her. Originally, Homura is almost the opposite of her later self. She is shy, physically weak, insecure, and socially withdrawn following a long hospitalization caused by a heart condition. She lacks confidence in both her physical abilities and her own worth. Madoka's kindness becomes a major influence on her, giving Homura someone she deeply admires and eventually resolves to protect. Biography Homura Akemi is one of the main Magical Girls of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica and a second-year student at Mitakihara Middle School. Before transferring there, Homura spends a lengthy period hospitalized because of a heart condition. Her isolation leaves her physically weak and socially inexperienced. After transferring to Mitakihara, she meets Madoka, who is one of the first people to treat her warmly. Homura later discovers that Madoka and Mami are Magical Girls after they rescue her from a Witch's labyrinth. Following events involving Walpurgisnacht, Homura makes a wish to redo her meeting with Madoka and become strong enough to protect her instead. This wish gives Homura control over time and returns her to approximately one month before the disaster. She subsequently repeats the same period numerous times, attempting different ways to prevent Madoka's fate and uncovering more information about Kyubey, Soul Gems, and Magical Girls during each attempt. Her experiences gradually transform her from a timid beginner into the composed and hardened Magical Girl seen in the primary timeline. Traits/Habits: Homura lives alone according to supplemental material. She loves cats. She previously attends a Catholic school in Tokyo before transferring to Mitakihara. Her calm exterior is deliberate; she suppresses emotional reactions to remain focused. She repeatedly studies the same events across different timelines, allowing her to anticipate situations that appear new to everyone else. Extra Info: Wish: “I want to redo my meeting with Miss Kaname. But this time, instead of her protecting me, I want to become strong enough to protect her.” Former Condition: Heart disease requiring lengthy hospitalization Estimated Timelines Experienced: Approaching 100, according to the supplied source Witch Name: Homulilly Devil Form Name: Devil Homura in setting materials Abilities / Magic: Time Reversal: Homura's shield functions as a sand timer and allows her to rewind time approximately one month into the past. Time Stop: Homura can completely stop the passage of time around herself. Anyone she physically touches can temporarily share her immunity to the stopped time. Shield: Her magical shield serves as the focus of her time-manipulation abilities. Weapon Storage: Homura's shield can store large quantities of equipment and weapons, allowing her to carry an extensive arsenal without keeping it physically visible. Projectile Protection: The shield can also provide protection against incoming projectiles. Firearms: Because her magic does not inherently provide a conventional offensive weapon, Homura acquires and uses ordinary firearms as part of her fighting style. Explosives: During earlier timelines, she learns to construct and use explosives as offensive weapons. Military Arsenal: Homura stores and uses various weapons acquired from military facilities, combining conventional weapons with her ability to stop time. Bow: Homura is also shown using a bow in Episode 12 and the Wraith Arc. Combat Style: Homura relies heavily on preparation, stored equipment, knowledge gained from previous timelines, and time manipulation rather than straightforward magical attacks. Notable Quotes: “A person becomes naïve if they're too kind. Careless if they're too bold. And no matter how hard you try to protect others, there's no gratitude. Those who can't comprehend such things aren't fit to be magical girls.” “I want to redo my meeting with Miss Kaname. Her outfit includes a fuzzy brown choker, suspenders decorated with orange bows, a brown crop top, a salmon-pink capelet with white fur trim, and a rounded brown skirt. Her lilac Soul Gem is housed within a candy-shaped ornament at the front of her outfit and is depicted with a tiny smiling face in concept art. She also wears brown polka-dotted thigh-high boots with orange soles. Personality Traits: Nagisa is cheerful, energetic, talkative, and distinctly childlike. She frequently serves as a source of comic relief and can appear scatterbrained, airheaded, or easily distracted. Despite this, she is more perceptive than her behavior initially suggests. Nagisa also tends to speak more eloquently than might be expected from her age and outwardly childish personality. As Bebe, these traits become even more pronounced. She jumps around enthusiastically, behaves impulsively, and becomes especially distressed by anything involving the possibility of being turned into cheese. Nagisa's love of cheese is one of her most consistent characteristics, with cheese and cheesecake serving as major motifs associated with her. Biography Nagisa Momoe is a Magical Girl introduced in Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica: The Rebellion Story. She is unusual among the series' Magical Girls because her Witch identity appears before her civilian identity is fully established. Her background is later expanded in Magia Record, particularly through the event Nagisa's Wish Was Granted. Nagisa eventually becomes associated with the Law of Cycles and serves alongside Sayaka Miki under Ultimate Madoka. According to the supplied material, she returns as a Magical Girl in The Rebellion Story while acting as one of Madoka's attendants or secretaries. Relationships: Madoka Kaname: Nagisa is part of the Law of Cycles and holds Madoka in very high regard. She serves alongside Sayaka in support of Ultimate Madoka. Mami Tomoe: Nagisa and Mami share a particularly close relationship. They care deeply for each other, and Mami comes to Bebe's defense when Homura becomes suspicious of her. Mother: Nagisa's mother is a major part of her Magia Record backstory. Their relationship is strained, with her mother treating Nagisa harshly because of resentment connected to Nagisa's father. Father: Little is known about him beyond his frequent absence from the family and his importance to Nagisa's mother's resentment. Traits/Habits: Nagisa strongly loves cheese and cheesecake. Her transformation phrase is “Parmigiano Reggiano.” She is the only Magical Girl in the supplied material stated to use a spoken incantation before transforming. She dislikes garlic. Extra Info: Primary Weapon: Bubble Trumpet Soul Gem Color: Lilac Transformation Phrase: “Parmigiano Reggiano” Favorite Foods: Cheese; Cheesecake Law of Cycles Associates: Madoka Kaname; Sayaka Miki Notable Alternate Form: Bebe / Charlotte Abilities / Magic: Bubble Trumpet: Nagisa's primary weapon is a horn or trumpet capable of firing magical bubbles. Bubble Attacks: The bubbles produced by her trumpet possess enough force to damage and crack the structure of a Witch's Labyrinth. Witch Transformation: After becoming part of the Law of Cycles, Nagisa gains the ability to switch between her human Magical Girl form and her Witch form. Familiar Summoning: Nagisa can summon the Familiars Pyotr and Polina. Law of Cycles: Nagisa operates as a member of the Law of Cycles. The supplied material establishes her association and ability to move between her Magical Girl and Witch forms but does not provide a complete mechanical description of any additional powers granted through it. Trumpet's Symbolic Function: According to the supplied source, her horn is intended to make Nagisa more “self-assertive and greedy,” reflecting her regret over making a wish centered on only one cheesecake. Notable Quote: “I just came back because I wanted to have cheese one more time!”

[General Info] Name: Kazumi Subaru Japanese: 昴かずみ Rōmaji: Subaru Kazumi Age: 13 physically; 0 chronologically Gender: Female Height: 150 cm Home: Asunaro City Occupation: Student; Magical Girl School: Asunaro City Southern Junior High School Affiliation: Pleiades Saints Theme Color: Black; White after her later contract Motif: Witch Primary Weapon: Cross-ended Staff Former Weapon: Star-ended Staff Relatives: Unnamed parents; unnamed grandmother Status: Amnesiac at the beginning of the story Appearance: The supplied material does not give a complete physical description of Kazumi. After deciding that she does not want to simply recreate the person she was before losing her memories, she cuts her hair into a short and intentionally rough style. Hair: Short following her self-imposed haircut. She retains a prominent ahoge that she refuses to cut because it genuinely functions as a Witch detector. Equipment: Kazumi primarily uses a magical staff. Her earlier weapon is described as having a star-shaped end, while her later staff has a cross-shaped end. The staff can also transform into other weapons. Personality Traits: Kazumi is cheerful, excitable, hotheaded, and highly spontaneous. Her mood can change dramatically within moments, particularly when she becomes confused, angry, or enthusiastic. Her amnesia contributes to a somewhat ditzy demeanor because many ordinary aspects of her former life feel unfamiliar when she encounters them again. Despite this, Kazumi is capable of becoming focused and decisive when circumstances become serious. A central part of her personality is her refusal to let her missing memories entirely define her. After learning more about her former life, she decides that she does not necessarily need to become the “old Kazumi” again and instead chooses to develop as a “new Kazumi.” She cares deeply for her companions and can become overly cautious when their safety is involved. During combat, she has even hesitated to attack because she fears accidentally injuring a friend. Kazumi also has a large appetite and is an accomplished cook. Food is extremely important to her, both personally and as a way of connecting with others. Biography Kazumi Subaru is the title protagonist of Puella Magi Kazumi☆Magica ~The Innocent Malice~ and one of its primary Magical Girls. At the beginning of the story, Kazumi wakes inside a suitcase with no memories other than her own name. Through a bizarre sequence of events involving Souichirou Tachibana, she eventually encounters Kaoru Maki and Umika Misaki, who identify themselves as her friends and roommates. Kazumi gradually rediscovers that she can use magic and learns that she, Umika, and Kaoru belong to a larger Magical Girl group known as the Pleiades Saints. Her lost past reveals that Kazumi originally encounters several of the future Pleiades while they are under the influence of a Witch. She rescues them and encourages them to continue living rather than surrendering to despair. After they later become Magical Girls themselves, Kazumi names their group the Pleiades Saints. Her own origin as a Magical Girl is connected to her grandmother. When her grandmother is near the end of her life, Kazumi makes a contract so that she can briefly return to her normal self while she is still alive. Kazumi deliberately avoids wishing away the illness because she believes doing so would disregard her grandmother's own way of living. Her grandmother spends that final period teaching Kazumi how to prepare strawberry risotto and gives her important advice about continuing to live despite despair. Kazumi later carries an earring-bell associated with her grandmother. Traits/Habits: Kazumi is extremely fond of food and can become messy while eating when particularly hungry. She is especially fond of Umika's cooking. Kazumi is herself a skilled cook, with strawberry risotto being particularly significant to her because she learns the recipe from her grandmother. She follows the unusual belief that someone who finishes their food cannot be entirely bad, advice she associates with Umika. Kazumi likes naming magical attacks and encourages the other Pleiades Saints to announce names for their techniques. Extra Info: Team: Pleiades Saints Close Companions: Umika Misaki; Kaoru Maki Cat: Toto Adopted Surname: Subaru Meaning of Subaru: Pleiades, directly referencing her Magical Girl team Abilities / Magic: Destruction Magic: The supplied source identifies Kazumi's original magical nature as “destruction.” This serves as the basis for her powerful offensive techniques. Witch Detection: Kazumi's ahoge genuinely reacts to and helps locate Witches, despite initially sounding like one of her eccentric claims. Weapon Transformation: Her staff can change shape, including transforming into a scythe or sword. Limiti Esterni: Kazumi's major offensive technique. She channels magical power through her weapon and releases a powerful ranged blast, using it repeatedly as a finishing attack against Witches. Enhanced Physical Reactions: Even while suffering from amnesia, Kazumi demonstrates instinctive combat responses, such as automatically avoiding attacks before fully remembering her Magical Girl experience. Teammate Enhancement: The supplied material states that after her later contract with Kyubey, Kazumi's principal magic changes into an ability capable of strengthening and effectively upgrading her teammates. Cooking: Although not magical, Kazumi is explicitly described as an excellent cook and frequently prepares food for the Pleiades Saints. Notable Quotes: “As long as you keep trying to live, you won't fall into despair.” “Ciao! You suicidal girls!” “I think Airi wasn't a bad person.”

Her known combat equipment includes magically enhanced soccer cleats and a short staff with a white circular head. Personality Traits: Kaoru is athletic, strong-willed, practical, and protective. Among her household with Kazumi and Umika, she takes on an older-sister-like role and helps look after everyday matters. Soccer is extremely important to her, but Kaoru wants her success as a player to come from her own effort rather than simply receiving athletic excellence through magic. Even when faced with an injury threatening her ability to play, she remains determined to return to the field. Kaoru is physically direct but not insensitive. She is visibly affected by the suffering of other Magical Girls and takes the Pleiades Saints' situation seriously. She also strongly values retaining her humanity. When the Pleiades discuss avoiding pain entirely, Kaoru objects that doing so would cause them to cease being human. Biography Kaoru Maki is a major character in Puella Magi Kazumi☆Magica ~The Innocent Malice~ and a member of the Pleiades Saints. She is an accomplished soccer player and lives together with Kazumi Subaru and Umika Misaki while their parents are working overseas. Before becoming a Magical Girl, Kaoru suffers a serious injury during a soccer match and is forced onto crutches. The player responsible for the injury is subsequently bullied for apparently ruining Kaoru's career, leaving Kaoru deeply distressed by the consequences surrounding the incident. Kaoru and several other girls later fall under the influence of a Witch's Kiss. Kazumi intervenes and forces them to confront whether they truly want to give up on living. After surviving the encounter, Kaoru, Umika, Satomi, Mirai, Niko, and Saki agree to become Magical Girls, forming the team Kazumi names the Pleiades Saints. Kaoru's magically strengthened body allows her to return to fighting with a style strongly influenced by soccer. Wish: The supplied page gives two different descriptions of Kaoru's wish. Its personality section states that she wished for a strong body so she could continue playing soccer, while the flashback summary states that she wanted to help the people who were hurt as a result of the match in which she was injured. The exact canonical wording of her wish is not provided in the supplied material. Pleiades Saints: Kaoru participates in the group's attempt to reject the normal Magical Girl system. After learning what ultimately happens to Magical Girls, the Pleiades begin separating other Magical Girls from their Soul Gems and placing their bodies in suspended animation rather than allowing their condition to progress further. Their stated objective is to eventually discover a way to completely cleanse the Soul Gems and restore the affected girls to ordinary human life. Kaoru continues fighting in support of that goal. Traits/Habits: Kaoru is highly dedicated to soccer and intends to become an accomplished player through her own skill. She readily uses her athletic background in combat. She cares deeply about the other Pleiades Saints and reacts emotionally when one of them hides important information from the group. Kaoru can be physically expressive with her friends; after learning that Niko concealed the truth about her spare body, she punches her before immediately embracing her. Abilities / Fighting Style: Magical Girl Enhancement: After contracting, Kaoru receives the enhanced physical capabilities associated with becoming a Magical Girl. She is particularly pleased with the improvement to her body because of her athletic background. Soccer-Based Combat: Kaoru incorporates soccer techniques into her fighting style. Her magically enhanced footwear allows her to attack through powerful kicks, including strikes strong enough to launch objects considerable distances. Spiked Cleats: Kaoru's Magical Girl equipment includes specialized soccer footwear. During an early Pleiades battle, she uses her spiked shoes as an offensive weapon. Capitano Potenza — “Captain Power”: A defensive technique in which Kaoru's arms become encased in a black metallic substance. She uses it to block incoming attacks. Tocco del Mare — “Touch of the Sea”: A spell Kaoru uses to forcibly extract or separate a Magical Girl's Soul Gem. She demonstrates it on Sumire Akane and later uses it to remove the Soul Gems of Ayase and Luca Souju. Short Staff: Kaoru is listed as possessing a short staff with a white circular top as one of her Magical Girl weapons, though the supplied material does not describe its specific abilities. Physical Defense: Kaoru's enhanced body and Capitano Potenza allow her to directly intercept attacks when protecting other members of the Pleiades Saints. Extra Info: Team: Pleiades Saints Closest Housemates: Kazumi Subaru; Umika Misaki Primary Interest: Soccer Combat Emphasis: Physical attacks; kicking techniques; defense Named Techniques: Tocco del Mare; Capitano Potenza Role Within Trio: Athletic member and older-sister figure Notable Quote: “If we do that we'll cease being human.”

Her Magical Girl imagery is associated primarily with the color white and a wedding motif. Personality Traits: Oriko is refined, educated, confident, calculating, and strongly committed to accomplishing whatever objective she believes is necessary. Her actions are guided by a powerful sense of justice inherited from her father. However, Oriko's interpretation of justice can become severe: she is willing to perform morally extreme acts when she believes they are necessary to prevent a greater disaster. She possesses considerable confidence in her own judgment and can appear arrogant because she believes herself justified in deciding what sacrifices are acceptable for the greater good. Despite this severe side, Oriko behaves much more gently around people she genuinely cares about. She enjoys teasing those close to her and demonstrates considerable attachment to her family and companions. Her father's ideals remain particularly important to her. Even after becoming disillusioned by his actions, Oriko continues pursuing what she understands as his dream of creating a peaceful world. Biography Oriko Mikuni is the title character and one of the three central Magical Girls of Puella Magi Oriko☆Magica. She attends Shirome Middle School, where she serves as student council president and is one of the school's highest-performing students. Oriko grows up in a politically influential family and greatly admires her father, Hisaomi Mikuni, a government official. Her perception of him changes after his illegal activities become public, causing both the collapse of his reputation and Oriko's own social standing among her classmates. Searching for a purpose after these events, Oriko contracts with Kyubey and wishes to know the meaning of her life. Her wish grants her the ability to see the future. Through this foresight, Oriko eventually witnesses a future involving Kriemhild Gretchen, an overwhelmingly destructive Witch. Concluding that Madoka Kaname's transformation is responsible for this future, Oriko becomes determined to prevent it. She works closely with Kirika Kure and deliberately manipulates circumstances surrounding other Magical Girls in an attempt to keep Kyubey's attention away from Madoka. In Symmetry Diamond, events differ considerably. Oriko instead foresees Walpurgisnacht and cooperates with Kirika against that threat. She also becomes involved with Yuma Chitose and helps direct the girl toward a safer family situation after learning about her home life. Relationships: Kirika Kure: Oriko's closest Magical Girl associate. Kirika supports Oriko's objectives and works directly alongside her throughout much of Oriko☆Magica. Yuma Chitose: Oriko becomes involved in Yuma's circumstances in different ways depending on the storyline. In Symmetry Diamond, she helps Yuma after becoming aware of her abusive home environment.
