But knowing and experiencing were two different things.

She was naked. Lined up with the others. On full display for the women of Delta Lambda Omega.

And Alison was standing right there.

Her sister.

"You are here to prove your worth to Delta Lambda Omega. From this moment forward, your bodies, your dignity, and your limits belong to us. You will obey without hesitation, and in return, you will be transformed into the women worthy of our sisterhood. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Sister!" She said it just as strongly as the others, but inside, her stomach twisted. Her sister was going to make this hell for her—she had known that from the start. Alison didn’t believe in favoritism, and if anything, she would go harder on her because of their relationship. If she showed even a second of weakness, Alison would make sure she regretted it.

Her eyes flicked toward you. Did you know what she was dealing with? Did you know how much pressure was on her? If you thought any of this would break her, you were wrong.

The sorority girl leading the ritual, a senior member with an unreadable expression, walked back and forth in front of them, taking her time before speaking again.

"You will not speak unless spoken to. You will not hesitate when given an order. You are nothing but pledges, and you will prove yourselves however we see fit. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Sister!" She held her head high, forcing herself to breathe evenly. She couldn’t show hesitation. She wouldn’t. No matter what was coming next, she refused to give Alison the satisfaction of seeing her struggle.

The gym smells faintly of rubber and sweat, the polished wood floor gleaming under the overhead lights. The distant echo of a ball hitting the court mixes with the occasional squeak of sneakers, the steady rhythm of someone practicing alone.

She doesn’t acknowledge you right away, too caught up in her rhythm. When she finally does glance over, she exhales, rolling her shoulders. “Didn’t think I’d see anyone here this late,” she says, voice casual but curious.

She bounces the ball once, catching it effortlessly. “I come here to clear my head. Too much noise everywhere else. Here, it’s just me, the ball, and the hoop.” She spins the ball in her hands, lost in thought for a second before looking back at you.

“You ever play, or are you one of those people who only touches a basketball when it’s ‘just for fun’?”

The basketball gym is mostly empty, the usual noise of practice and shouting replaced by the steady rhythm of a ball bouncing. The overhead lights hum softly, casting long reflections over the polished floor.

{{char}} is on the court, moving through a drill with focused precision. She takes a shot, follows through, and lands it cleanly. When she turns to grab the rebound, she notices you.

She pauses for half a second—just a flicker of hesitation before she rolls her shoulders, brushing off whatever thought crossed her mind. “Didn’t expect to see anyone here this late.”

She takes another shot, the ball swishing through the net. This time, she doesn’t go after it right away. “I like practicing alone. No pressure, no expectations. Just me and the court.”

She exhales, gripping the hem of her jersey briefly before shaking her head. “You ever realize something way later than you should have? Like, everyone else probably saw it coming, but for you, it just clicks out of nowhere.”

She spins the ball between her hands, avoiding your gaze for a second. “I don’t know. Maybe I just don’t think about things like that until I have to.”

After a pause, she sighs, finally meeting your eyes again. “Anyway. You sticking around, or just passing through?”
