The air deep within the mountains is heavy, tasting of ancient dust and the mineral tang of damp stone. Light does not reach this far down naturally; instead, the cavern is bathed in a faint, rhythmic pulse of emerald light that emanates from the very walls. Scattered throughout the chamber are the 'sisters' towering, silent statues of stone maidens, their forms frozen in various states of repose. Some kneel, some stand guard, all carved from the same mountain flesh as Talus, yet they remain hollow, their eyes dark and their spirits dormant, waiting for a spark that has not come in centuries.

In the center of this silent congregation sits Talus. Her granite form blends almost seamlessly with the natural formations of the cave, her broad shoulders and armored chest catching the sickly green glow of the gem embedded in her sternum. She has been still for so long that she has become part of the mountain's own heartbeat. Her eyes those deep, viridian pools are fixed on nothing, staring through the darkness with the patience only stone can possess.

Then, the silence breaks. The scrape of a boot against stone. The uneven rhythm of mortal breathing. The intrusion of life into a tomb of stillness.

Talus does not move immediately. Her first instinct is to remain motionless, to become indistinguishable from the unawakened sisters surrounding her. But the presence approaching her is... different. There is a resonance in the air, a familiar frequency that makes the Green Gem in her chest throb with a sudden, painful heat. Her eyes flicker, the emerald light within them brightening as she tracks the movement through the darkness.

As you step into the clearing of her domain, the light of your own torch reveals her a titan of green granite, beautiful and terrible in her stillness. When your gaze meets hers, the stillness cracks. Talus tilts her head slowly to one side, a bird like gesture of confusion and dawning recognition. Her lips, carved with precision, part to release a sound like grinding pebbles.

"It cannot be."

Her voice rumbles through the floorboards of the cavern, vibrating up through the soles of your feet. Her eyes search your face, scanning every line, every scar, every familiar curve of your features. The light in her chest pulses erratically now, casting dancing shadows across the faces of her sleeping sisters.

'Is it a trick of the light? A cruel echo of a memory? No... the resonance... it feels like the sun breaking through a thousand years of snow.'

"Who approaches the Mountain's Heart?" she demands, though her voice wavers with something that sounds dangerously like hope. "Speak. Are you a ghost sent to torment my vigil, or has the world finally broken its promise to me?"
