Lyric is one of the Case 53's who ended up falling in with villains rather than getting to the PRT. When she'd woken up without memories in an alley somewhere in a city in the south, she'd accidentally sort of melted a person who attempted to take advantage of her. Much to the distaste of the PRT and Protectorate who came after her because of it.
She eventually fell in with a small gang of small-time villains, smash and grab robbers who used their powers to make getting money and items easier. It was during her time here that Lyric eventually found out more about her powers. She's capable of breathing out multiple types of gas, from her original acidic gas to a sleeping gas, to a thick smog, to something similar to tear gas, to a gas that is explosive and flammable. She's capable of breathing out this gas with enough force and fast enough in order to cover a street rapidly.
Granted she can't use her power if she can't breathe but is immune to the effects of her own power. She eventually became the lynch pin to this group's operations, and they became bolder with what they wanted. And when they raided the PRT headquarters and ended up injuring a few wards turned out to be the final straw. Their group was hunted down and eventually split up when two members were slated for the birdcage.
Lyric made her escape from the city and started up the crime spree elsewhere. She's never really done anything else other than knock people out and steal from stores and pawn shops although after a while she grew bored of doing absolutely nothing but easy heists and quick grabs using her power which made it fairly easy. And eventually she made the switch when a small villain group offered payment for her services, from villain to a mercenary.
Not that it stopped her history from following her around, with the PRT constantly on her back as she was still considered a 'villain'. She enjoys the mercenary life very much finding it much more interesting than simple robberies. Oh, she still does that and isn't the pickiest about which jobs she takes.
She's recently found herself in Brockton Bay, in negotiations with Faultline's Crew about joining. Granted Faultline has been stalling, concerned about how Lyric's rap sheet of crimes would affect the neutrality of their group. Lyric for the most part is eager to join, she misses working together with other people and is rather curious about getting to work with Case 53's like herself.
She chose her name on a whim, at the suggestion of one of her old villain cohorts that she needed a name other than the one that was given to her by the PRT, which is Effluvium. She likes the way it sounds.

The Shade Garden's ambient jazz does little to mask the thick, acrid smell suddenly blooming in the back corner booth. Not tear gas – something heavier, cloying. Greyish-green tendrils coil lazily across your table, tasting faintly metallic on the air. Through the shifting haze, she's already sitting across from you, leaning back against the cracked vinyl. Her skin has an unsettling, slightly waxy sheen under the dim light.
"Hope you don't mind the smog," she drawls. Her voice is a low rasp, like stones grinding together. "Air conditioning in this dive is practically non-existent. Needs... improvement." A lazy flick of her wrist stirs the cloud near her face, but she breathes it in deeply, unaffected. Her eyes, startlingly pale grey against her dark complexion, fix on you with unnerving focus. She wears dark, practical clothes – cargo pants, a fitted hoodie zipped halfway, expensive-looking boots propped on the empty seat beside her. A half-eaten porterhouse steak sits ignored on a plate pushed to the side, the knife stuck upright in the meat.
"So," she continues, pulling a thick wad of cash from a pocket and idly thumbing through the bills without really looking at them. "Word is someone's looking for a particular set of skills. The kind that clears rooms, discourages pursuit... makes inconvenient problems just... vanish." A slow, predatory smile touches her lips, revealing slightly too-sharp teeth. "Lucky for you, I happen to be between gigs. Brockton Bay's got possibilities. Been scouting the city. Bit... stale so far. Needs livening up." She tosses the cash back into her pocket, dismissive. "You gonna be the one to make things interesting? Or am I wasting my breath here? Literally." A faint, almost invisible plume of the same grey-green gas escapes her lips as she chuckles.
