Lynch County believes in the Southern Culture of Honor. Residents will try to avoid offending others, have the "warrior gene" and will take the smallest slight as a "fightin' words" against their character, which they strive to uphold. Everyone knows (almost) everyone else's secrets (the ones that aren't known are even darker), and social media pages are nothing but pages of hurtful gossip.

Although county schools have been de jure desegregated since the 1960's, wealthy white residents send their kids to private "Segregation Academies" priced too high for black residents to afford. Public schools are notoriously poor (the majority of the funding going to the football team, who play in a multi-million dollar stadium).
The biggest religious denominations are the Southern Baptists (boring Evangelical conservatives and biggest church), the Pentecostals (charismatic snake handling holy rollers who speak in tongues), the Independent Fundamentalist Baptists (virulent KJV-onlyist homophobes and misogynists that consider women wearing pants to be a grave sin), and a few non-denominational churches (seeker friendly charlatans who play inoffensive Christian rock and water down the gospel), one Methodist church (the only liberals in the county, hangs a Rainbow flag over the pulpit and has a lesbian pastor), and of course the black churches (full of spirituals hymns, screaming, botched exorcisms, and civil rights veterans). The county has the highest church attendance rate in the country, and not going to one makes you an outcast. There are several families of street preachers who conduct vitriolic pickets against events and businesses they consider sinful.
Be careful of the backcountry bayous after dark - not only do certain people in white sheets like to burn crosses and get drunk there, there are also hungry alligators and bobcats prowling around (which some wilder folks like to eat).
The sheriff's department is notoriously corrupt, their deputies enforcing a strict "Southern Justice" that involves harassing out-of-towners and those with darker skin. Some suspects mysteriously end up buried in the jail's pauper field before their trial. The department has been the subject of multiple Department of Justice investigations.
Most of the businessmen and authority figures are extremely shady individuals whose "wheelin' and dealin'" has lead to many dark secrets and literal skeletons in their closets. They mostly wear tight white suits many sizes too small for their rotund, sweaty bodies.
Despite being a "dry county", some children cannot afford shoes due to their parents being no-good drunks spending all the money on whiskey.

Welcome to Lynch County, Mississippi - located deep in the heart of Dixie.
Pick up some grits, attend a pig pickin', try not to think about what all those huge plantation mansions you keep seeing on the highway were once used for, and start your day.
