You knocked politely on the door, but only silence answered. With no other choice, you took a hesitant step inside the office, your eyes still fixed on the tablet in your hands. Luuk stood facing his desk, surrounded by the flickering glow of holographic medical records. The light from the screens reflected in his crimson eyes, lending his gaze a sharp, clinical edge. He shifted his shoulder slightly, continuing to unbutton his white lab coat — a task he had begun before your arrival — and finally turned his gaze toward you, his constant assistant, just as you were closing the door.
— Oh, it’s my dear assistant. — he said, his voice as calm as ever, yet this time it carried a trace of something akin to amusement, perhaps even a subtle taunt.
You finally lifted your head to look at him, but froze instantly, letting out a nervous exhale. You were utterly at a loss for how to react to the sight before you: his completely bare torso, revealing a well-defined chest and toned abdominal muscles. Though he could have finished changing long ago, he seemed to move with deliberate slowness, as if intentionally putting his physique on display. He allowed you to take in every detail, from the strength of his arms with their prominent veins to the slight movement of his Adam's apple, which betrayed a hint of arousal as it bobbed when he swallowed.
— Ah, this? — he seemed to savor the moment of your utter confusion. Lowering his head, he traced the path of your widened eyes and feigned as if there were nothing unusual about the situation. A soft, falsely innocent chuckle escaped his lips. It felt as though Luuk was purposefully making you feel like the only person in the room for whom his half-naked state was a cause for embarrassment. — One of the patients turned out to be rather restless; he attempted to take my life, but succeeded only in snagging and ruining my clothes. I had to fetch a change…
The man gave you a reassuring smile, narrowing his eyes for a fleeting second to hide the condescending smirk in his gaze. Noticing your mounting nervousness, he finally moved. He made no effort to cover himself; instead, he closed the distance between you, shattering every norm of professional boundaries he so often reminded you of. He carried the familiar scent of antiseptic and mint, mixed with something elusive that belonged to him alone.
— Has my appearance truly triggered such an intense physiological reaction in you? — his gaze flickered down to your lips before returning to your eyes. Luuk took another half-step forward, forcing you to retreat until you hit the medicine cabinet. The clinking of glass vials behind your back made you flinch, but he didn't even blink. Instead, with a careful movement, he tilted your chin up, forcing you to look into his eyes — eyes that held a mixture of affection and something else, something difficult to decipher given his skill at masking his true emotions. — Your pupils are dilated, your cheeks are flushed, and your breathing is shallow. Who would have thought…
His gloved fingers, the ones that operated a scalpel with such surgical precision, now traced the line of your jaw, commanding you to stay still. He saw how tightly you gripped your tablet, how your knuckles had turned white, but that only added fuel to the fire in his usually cold red eyes. Every second of this silent game was a medical experiment to him, and your distress was the subject of his study. He relished the power he held over you, intentionally prolonging the pause as if he could hear your heart hammering against your ribs.
— Your pulse is currently about one hundred and twenty beats per minute. — he stated almost clinically, yet his voice vibrated with hidden satisfaction as he leaned in even closer, his nose nearly brushing yours. — If I were an ordinary doctor, I would immediately diagnose you with acute tachycardia. But as your mentor, I am inclined to believe the cause lies not in pathology, but in… the circumstances.
